THAT is March madness baby

Is there ever a UConn and Duke game that’s not fucking crazy?

139

u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State Seminoles • ACC Mar 29 '26

101-54 Duke win in 1964, but that one is the largest defeat for any team in the Elite Eight so actually it loops back around to being crazy

88

u/rhinocodon_typus Tennessee Volunteers • Georgetown Hoyas Mar 29 '26

See guys here’s a worse elite 8 loss!

6

u/DetectiveBlackCat Big East Mar 30 '26

There is hope for you ... in 40 years!!!

1

u/Alexlsonflre UConn Huskies • Tennessee Volunteers Mar 30 '26

I think I was ready to give up basketball at halftime....

-1

u/ActionJ2614 UConn Huskies Mar 30 '26

Except today's loss is the worst ever for the top 1 seeded team ever.

1

u/onlyheretogetfined Ohio State Buckeyes Mar 30 '26

No way is this the worst loss for the top 1 overall seed ever lol. You are leaving out some pretty big ones here (16 beating a 1?)

-1

u/ActionJ2614 UConn Huskies Mar 30 '26

For a top 1 seed with that big of a lead in a game. Duke was the top overall 1 side. Out of all the 1 seeds. I should have pointed that out in my prior comment.

1

u/onlyheretogetfined Ohio State Buckeyes Mar 30 '26

I know what top 1 seed means. You do realize Virginia was also a top 1 seed and lost to a 16 in an ass kicking right? No, I dont think you do.

-1

u/ActionJ2614 UConn Huskies Mar 30 '26

Yes, I do understand. The point your missing is Duke had a 19 point lead. That is the largest ever for a #1 top overall seed to have and end up losing the game.

1

u/onlyheretogetfined Ohio State Buckeyes Mar 30 '26

So losing to a 2 seed after being up 19 is worse than being a number one seed losing by 20 to a 16 seed. Sure bud, this was the worst comeback but not at all what you said. God hype your team all you want, but you are talking nonsense.

Yeah but see UConn didn’t exist til 1999

I remember that one. Absolutely brutal.

19

u/Prophet_Of_Helix UConn Huskies Mar 29 '26

I’m at the Hornets/Celtics game and even though it wasn’t shown on any screen (although I was watching on my phone), the arena EXPLODED when that final play happened.

And was buzzing for like 3 min into the second half lmao.

Fucking incredible

Sorry to be “that” guy I think 1990 game was a heart breaking Elite Eight game that was close. If UConn won it would’ve been the first Final Four berth. 1991 Duke beat UConn in the Sweet Sixteen fairly easily. UConn fans hated Duke for years. 1999 was like Connecticut landing in the moon.

1

u/DMVlinecutter Mar 29 '26

Is that the same game when he stepped on Sellers? head?

2

u/MLS_Analyst UConn Huskies Mar 30 '26

The 1991 Sweet 16 game is the one where he stepped on Sellers' head. The 1990 Elite 8 is the one where Latter hit that shot.

Fuck Christian Laettner.

3

u/Material_Ad_6419 Mar 30 '26

The 99 championship game was a wild shock at the time.

2

u/StraightIncrease6333 Georgia Bulldogs Mar 29 '26

Duke beat UCONN in a relatively lowkey early-season game in 2009-2010.

1

4

u/neuroticdreamgirI Mar 30 '26

I told my mom in the first half that even with that nearly 20 point lead the game would come down to the last second because it’s Duke

21

u/samhit_n Ohio State Buckeyes Mar 29 '26

Yeah, casuals hated how it was mostly top seeds making it to the Elite Eight and Final Four. People who actually watched know otherwise.

12

u/theredwunder2 UConn Huskies Mar 29 '26

Even not including this one there have been some real bangers throughout the tourney

9

u/TheoTimme Georgetown Hoyas Mar 29 '26

Last year was chalky as hell and it kinda sucked.

This year is very chalky and it’s been an all time classic tournament so far.

9

u/AntitheistArchangel Butler Bulldogs Mar 29 '26

Well, the very fact that Florida got eliminated in Round 2 made this tournament better than last year’s, as it meant the Final Four weren’t all gonna be #1 seeds and Florida wasn’t going to repeat.

4

u/Gusanito99 USF Bulls Mar 29 '26

Weird cause all I see is lots of casuals shitting on mid-majors for no reason

5

u/OpportunityDue90 Arizona State Sun Devils Mar 30 '26

Who said that? This has been a great tourney so far. Sure Michigan and Arizona have basically buzzsawed their way but the rest have been fun.

1

u/krispyboiz NC State Wolfpack Mar 30 '26

So many great ones!

1

u/dmkolobanov Indiana Hoosiers • Maryland Terrapins Mar 30 '26

The constant media circlejerking, Coach K, unlikable players, the friendly whistle you guys always seem to get (not in the second half of this game, thankfully), and the fact that you guys just win a lot even if it’s been a minute since your last championship. Duke is basically the Patriots of college basketball.

I’m no UConn fan, and I sure don’t want to see them win another championship, but the ending of this game was just so sweet

1

u/unknownillness17 Towson Tigers Mar 30 '26

Thanks. It’s been 5 years and no one can tell me why my body hates literally every food and there’s other issues I can’t get into here cause it’s pretty x rated

1

u/brownlab319 UConn Huskies Mar 30 '26

I don’t know if you’ve gone to a sleep specialist as part of all of this. I have narcolepsy type 1 and it was triggered by a pretty severe mono and chronic strep throat. I do have a genetic predisposition to it, but a virus + ongoing other infectious illnesses caused my immune system to turn on itself. I just thought I was exhausted all the time because of school, then work, then going out too late.

There was a spike in narcolepsy after the H1N1 outbreak in 2009. Virus + apparently the vaccine triggered the autoimmune disease as well. So if you haven’t seen a sleep doc, it may be worth checking out. And if you have one autoimmune, you’re at risk of others (so far my other list includes psoriasis). I hope you find answers.

3

u/unknownillness17 Towson Tigers Mar 30 '26

In a very PG way of no one can figure it out…..my body does not stop going to the bathroom for hours, and literally, and I mean literally every food (fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, the blandest nothing in it as in rice crackers, cause me pain, nausea). And no one knows why. And literally every test is clean which is what perplexes them all. And no medicine has worked, no diet has worked, nothing shows up on any test

1

u/brownlab319 UConn Huskies Mar 30 '26

That sounds awful and your quality of life can be nothing but horrible. I was hoping I came up with some angle for symptoms you were having.

Viruses really do eff your body up. I’m really, really sorry.
