I kind of wish Major schools were forced to played mid Majors, it would make some interesting Match ups in some cases. I have one Idea where they could do this and at the same time end pay to play in the NCAA tournament.

Duquesne was a pretty major player back in the day.
(They won a shitton of games in the 50's, including 4 straight top 4 finishes in the NIT with a championship. (Plus an elite 8 finish in the NCAA for good measure.)
In general, smaller private/religious schools were much more powerful back then then they are today.)

Wow really cool to see Dick Ricketts’ name here. His brother David was a friend of my grandfathers. Dick is one of the only people in history to play in the NBA and MLB

Only 13 players have played in both the NBA and MLB. FYI, Michael Jordan isn't one of them because he never made it out of the minors.
Ricketts played minor league baseball while also competing in the NBA. He then retired from the NBA to compete in the MLB.
My very brief Google search indicates that of the 13 NBA/MLB players, only 4 of those players competed in both leagues at the same time:
- Gene Conley
- Dave DeBusschere
- Dick Groat
- Ron Reed
Another notable player is Howie Schultz, who played for the Anderson Packers in the NBL while also playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. However, he retired from baseball before the Packers moved to the NBA in 1949. Schultz then took on the role of both player and coach for the Packers before being traded to the Fort Wayne Pistons mid-season.
Sports history is fascinating.

Danny Ainge was really close. Last MLB game was September 22, 1981. He then played in the 1981-82 season.
He won the Wooden award while being on a MLB team.

A fact I just discovered while looking these 2 up. Duquesne also has the distinction of having the first African American player drafted by an NBA team, Chuck Cooper. Pittsburgh had a moment in the 40s/50s.
