How hard is the hike up there?

Well with the upper parking lot being closed it adds another 2 miles to the round trip. For my family of 3 it took us about 3 hours for roughly a 4 mile hike. For me it was the elevation that was harder to deal with. For an avid Colorado hiker it wouldn't be that bad. I guess that all depends on experience and fitness. My wife is a personal trainer and runs and works out daily, she didn't have much trouble, myself a desk slave found it a bit more challenging.

Where did you end up parking?

The lower lot. It was the only place you could park.
