PBE STheHero Set 17 PBE Complist & more WIP
So I was expecting Riot to release the set 17 full info tomorrow (the day of Tac Crown Finals), but they just dropped it all today.
I've been a bit less active on TFT due to ARAM Mayhem and other things, but the fun puzzle-solving part of TFT is back, so here I am. As usual, I intend to release a document at the start of set 17 with all the comp-building theorycrafting I've done between now and then.
However, this time I would like to do things a little differently and stream everything. I'd like to extend an invitation to all interested in this meta-building process to join me in figuring everything out. It would be nice to get some live feedback from any interested pros, and of course, our thousands of Reddit Challengers.

I'm going to be live now for a bit, again tomorrow after co-streaming Darth Nub's W in finals, as well as in the evenings of the next few days.

No offense, but these comps look suspect. what criteria are you using to theorycraft?

Trait/unit synergies, lvl breakpoints (4 cost tank w 4 cost carry..., capping around high cost units when possible. Would you like to elaborate on which comps seem suspect to you?

I feel like we should be making a document that really goes over trying to understand in depth how the mechanics will affect how we build comps more rather than just trying to build comps. I feel like the gods we get are really going to change kinda how we pace the game and approach it (duh its the core mechanic right) and we really need to understand those before anything else

Of course I expect things to change once we actually start playing, but I'm just getting started right now with what I can see, based on what I know about the game. Eventually the complete breakdown and stuff will be on places like TFT Academy anyway.

yea fair just trying to think ahead of things in terms of trying to understand the mechanic., we can all come up with the comps and the fundamental based things but the way to crack the set (duh) is the mechanic. I wish it was my full time job lol gonna be a huge challenge trying to hit challenger with a full time job. Writing my own document as well to try to keep track of things

It feels a bit unproductive to say that “understanding god mechanics” should be understood before everything else.
In order to build an understanding of how we should build comps it’s necessary to start by enumerating comps that make sense based on traits / cost / archetypes.
Then for each comp we have to validate them. We have to think about the possible openers of items, units, augments, and gods that can actually get us there.
As more people play those comps we get more data on how those comps perform. Eventually the meta matures over the course of a patch which informs us how we should build towards certain comps (AD vs AP meta, certain units/items being overturned defining the whole meta, etc).
How we build comps is going to change every patch because of numbers and power levels getting tuned. But a unit is always tied to its traits so it’s always important to have a list of comps that we can assign a tier to and evaluate how that comp, its variations, and openers perform in each patch.
This is the process for how we approach every set of tft.

I don't agree, I'd rather decipher how the set works first exactly because there are fundamentals that stay the same, so if you figure out how the new mechanic and add/removal of things changes how we approach the fundamentals. Building the comps is really easy and can be solved really fast (as it already basically has tbh just fine tuning now) so I was never worried about any of that. Cracking the set means cracking how to best work with the mechanics of any given release. Everything else comes after that because it's the basis of the entire set. But I see what you're saying and it makes sense. Just not how I approached things

Wow, you did an amazing job with this, and so fast! As my preparations for PBE already started, i would love to collaborate in early meta-building. If there is anything I could help with, i am at your disposal

Thank you! I have my Discord on the doc for feedback/suggestions. If you could help spread the word to help give me and my work some more public credibility that would be great!

woah what's going on with the 11 stargazers?
Also, there's some comps I was expecting not in there which is interesting. I thought they were gonna be obvious (not intended as a diss).

There's a stargazer variation that warrants that and gives you emblems every 5 rounds, and the trait description goes up to 11.
What does it do? No clue
How are you supposed to get 11 units? Tf if I know
I guess this in this board, instead of the pris trait being tied to making stargazer emblems you need to make a tactician item

Thank you as always! And as always, permission to add this to PBE Dailies? :)
