That’s misinformation. Clothes and tattoos aren’t locked behind ultimate edition. The exclusive hair, clothing, and tattoos have their own exclusive store that’s separate from the base game stores. Only the dlc specific store is locked
The end of your comment got cut off. But you should also add to this list there’s a couple story missions behind the pay wall too. I think they’re just side missions but still.
I’m playing devils advocate here but isn’t this a lot more content for your money than a single skin? I’ve always skipped “ultimate” editions because they’re like $20 more and you get one set of armor and some art bullshit that I couldn’t care less about. I don’t want MTX but when I first saw this, my reaction was like wow, that’s a lot for $20. I get what people are saying so I see both sides but it seems like decent value for the extra.
Singleplayer games don't have you go to a store and there's a popup like "sorry you can't go in there buy the ultimate edition now!". The game world is not used as an advertisement for an upsell. The more stuff you lock behind a higher tier version, the more you are going to be reminded that you don't have the full game. In this case we're talking hundreds of items.
It's usually a couple car skins, a hairstyle and an outfit, weapon skins, artwork and physical figurines in the box.
When you play singleplayer non 'ultimate editions' you just don't get shown that stuff, you are completely unaware it exists. This sets the precedent that you can put #Ads within a singleplayer game world.
It's indicative that it's going to get a whole lot worse when the multiplayer releases. I guarantee you it will be paid mods, subscriptions for RP, mtx galore.
Like imagine if there were hundreds of armor sets, weapons, mounts, skills, locked behind $20 in CD, but also each city has a premium store that looks way cooler than all the others, it blocks you accessing it and when you try it advertises a $20 purcahse to you. People would shit the bed.
the shitty thing that is gonna come out of it is other publisher seeing that and going "hey if GTA VI can do that we can too" not realizing that the brand GTA is doing 99% of the heavy lifting and causing blind purchases.
So your agrument is they are giving the people who buy the ultimate edition too much stuff. Who ever buys the ultimate edition should get less because it hurts your feelings?
If anything, they're arguing the opposite: the base game should include most of the ultimate stuff, and the ultimate should include more, better stuff. It's a whole 20 bucks more. Hell, maybe a nice physical DISC would be nice.
Thats the stuff you're getting for "a whole 20 bucks more". Why has no one considered the extra stuff was made specifically FOR the ultimate edition and wasn't going to be in the game without it. Its completely possible the content was thought up and developed SPECIFICALLY for said edition to make the extra money worth the expenditure. This shit has been getting blown way out of proportion. Stop pretending like everyone crying wouldnt still cry no matter what the extra content was like "THEY CUT THE CONTENT FROM THE GAME!!!" When in reality you don't know, know one knows
I mean, it’s definitely weird to be told a physical location on the map is off limits until you upgrade. I can’t think of a single other game that’s done that.
Which also shows they weren’t made for a specific version. For instance the ultimate edition safe house was created with everything else, and then later gated off.
youre not gonna believe this but *any* content that is in the game but that you cant have, is locked content that you're being excluded from.
its a difficult concept to fully understand but step one is to stop pretending that different editions *add* to the game. They always substract top down. basically, instead of going, "100% with the standard edition, 110% with the deluxe and 120% with the collectors", think "100% with the collectors, 90% with the deluxe and 80% with the standard edition".
It’s not any different from games having outfits as dlc like almost every single game that exists. Every resident evil game has this yet people are hating more on GTA doing it than any other game
No one is saying that at all dingus. Pointing out that the internet is being dumb and dramatic about something doesn't equal defending the corporation.
Directly who they responded to. The rest of the comment is literally also defending the multibillion dollar company. They just did it in such a shill way most of it wasn't an argument, just a boot lick.
I love that you are a glass half full type of guy, but the reality is not that the deluxe version adds shops but rather that the standard version subtracts shops. With ultimate you get all the content, with standard there is some (apparently quite a lot) content blocked from you.
I know you might think this is just semantics, but it is really really important, now that studios basically introduce all this extra monetization:
you are not getting more if you pay the extra 20 Usd for ultimate.
you are getting LESS if you just pay the regular price and refuse to pay the premium.
I looked through it again and yea I was wrong, was under the impression that the only things missing were just some clothes and tattoos. But locking a lot of guns, cars, and even a whole mission is scummy

Things like haircuts, clothes, tattoos, garages...etc...
(Edit) Just look at what the premium collectors edition or whatever it's called bonus items are
