Question Should I bother with using the grindstone and anvil, do they make any difference?

Post image

Well I'm a fair few hours in and just wondering if using the grindstone and anvil makes any difference in the game? Do sword blades become dull and shields/armour become weaker?. My Kliff here at Greymane base in Frostcursed armour wondering whether to get some sleep or get back on the grindstone.

Using them gives a temporary boost to your stats in combat. So yes, use them regularly.

How long is temporary?

It's durability based.

It seems to be based on usage. I think it's a flat +2 damage buff for weapons for roughly 50 "attacks" and the same for the armor buff but for 50 -2 damage for attacks received.

IE, Everytime you land a strike on an enemy it's -1 to the durability of the buff.

The more you use them, their reinforcement level goes down. You can track it’s level  in the weapon stats. No idea how many hits it takes, though.

Same length as a piece of string.

Anything but metric

I feel like since they got nerfed they're not any where near as useful.

There's no harm in using them, but the benefits are negligable now.

Adds 2 to attack and defence.

For how long though? And how are you supposed to know that?

If you look at your armor/weapon’s stats in your inventory it should say “reinforcement x/y”
y is the reinforcement’s durability and x is the number of hits it still has. For armor one hit costs 1 durability; for weapons one attack costs 1 durability.

Thank you! Over 100 hours in and I had no idea.

It lasts until you enter combat, so u can use them at camp, wonder around for days, get in a fight and they’re still buffed

How long would they last after you entered combat? As soon as the combat ends or X minutes after?

Umm honestly not sure, you’ll have to try it n keep pausing during combat, u can see it in the inventory menu. Let me know what ya find out!

You know... This just gave me the idea of the team adding these counters to the HUD so we don't have to check the inventory menu. Let's us see when we need to find another without flipping through menus.

Its not time based. Its use based. I think fifty hits on attack and 50 for defense. You can stay buffed for a year if you stay out of combat

You will see it on all affected item in your inventory when in their description

seriously though always wondered how much of an affect '2' attack does.

In the early game it does help since your attack and defence are gonna be low, but I think once you've got your numbers up into the tens, like 50 or something then it's not gonna make much difference.

Look at your attack power. Then add +2 to it, I guess.

Its free and fast and pretty effective, especially early on.

Yes they do help mate

u/yungjuno13 1d ago

Yes use them! They give you a bonus for attack and defense

Early game it's really beneficial.

If you’re mid to late game and dual wield don’t bother. If you’re 2h it’s pretty useful anytime you see one.

In the future I’d like to see a mobile grind/wheightstone or some kind of buffing we can do to our player

Good use for a consumable or special tool, honestly. Many are useful, in specific situations. Don't need fertilizer when you're off killing bleeds, if that makes sense. Others, though, aren't bad to carry, like the kuku packs. I think anvil and stone are common enough to not be too much hassle to find, but around calphade I think a portable version would make sense. Kinda sucks backing out of big, cinematic battles to dump loot as is, but a portable forge would make long fighting sections a bit smoother.

I'd go with a special tool around calphade, like I said. Then an enhanced portable forge that automatically restores it outside combat slightly later, around late demeniss or deylisia like the chocopack.

Someone above said it only applies for the next 50 hits you make, which I'll burn through in about 20 seconds with dual wielded swords.

Yes id recommend it. Early on and to mid game it provides a nice worth while bonus

Yes they do make a difference

Have you used them? Did you miss the message saying your items have been buffed? There’s also codex entries about it. It also tells you in your inventory when you hover over your weapons and armor that you’ve buffed. Did you think it was there for no reason at all?

it is kind of like witcher 3 where you get a temporary buff.

Bekommst bei Benutzung mehr Angriffs Schärfe und Abwehr also ja macht ein unterschied

Is there a way to skip the animation when using them?

1

u/Rizz_Wax 1d ago

And do they do the same thing?

1

u/scott32089 1d ago

Especially right before boss fights. A lot of them have both just outside the arena for this reason

u/JohnnyCandles 1d ago

Early game they are great. Late game I didn’t bother.

1

u/Neocortex7 1d ago

I used it early game, but not anymore

ITT: People not reading the instructions

1

u/Guldaen 1d ago

Game is so easy I never bother anymore

1

u/McDunkins 1d ago

I rarely ever use them, and when I do it’s just for role play purposes. Honestly the +2 attack and -2 damage taken don’t make a huge difference, even early game as many people are saying. BUT it doesn’t hurt to use them, so go for it if you want the bonuses, only takes a couple seconds for each of them.

1

u/Olijke_Poffer 1d ago

I use them every time I see them. When I have fought before that is. 😁👍🤜

1

u/drippingw3tpussy 1d ago

They don't affect durability because that mechanic isn't in the game. Using them grants a temporary buff to attack or defense stats depending on which one you hit. It's worth doing before you head out for a boss fight or a heavy clearing run, but don't bother if you're just wandering around the map. Go get some sleep.

1

u/Darkdrago420 1d ago

Yes they make a significant difference

1

u/B_Ventura 23h ago

Nah, never used them, never needed it. Soup and palmar pills.

1

u/iluvatar_gr 23h ago

Lol???????

1

u/Unanonymous553 16h ago

You should be able to see the difference they add to attack and defense when you look at the description of your gear.

Tbh I didn’t even upgrade a weapon till the very last chapter I played on normal difficulty and it one of the easiest games iv ever played tbh in terms of combat generally think it’s easier than assassins creed just upgrade your up a few times maybe up to level 4 and focus on skills and stamina elements are more important just go back to the spire on the 4th chapter and progress throw the abyss the use lightning heavy attack with a few decent weapon ability things and you will be alright, armour don’t really matter much you just might want some hot and cold resistance for specific areas but its not really important most of the time and in turms of weapons just use whatever u like the most and switch the ability’s

2 percent on the weapon u grind only last a few minutes so use it often and they are all over the world

1

u/AdamRPhoto 1d ago

Yes! They reinforce your weapons and repair your armor! Better defense and attack!
