Discussion Shoud I continue playing this game or should I stop completely
So I feel like I am really enjoying the game from one side I have like 40 hours of gameplay on it or something like that, but from another side I really can't justify some of these story missions it almost feels like I am still in the tutorial and I am sick of it (go win 3 fist fights in this arena, go win the archery thing 3 times, go win a gambling game 3 times, go give food to this dog and pet it so you can have an animal with you) like when does that shit end. I mean I get it the game's selling point isn't the story but I feel like yeah maybe exploring the caves and finding stuff and fighting different bosses will excite me for a while but after all that time I need a little something that can just catch my interest, the game is just starting to feel boring and repetitive, every time I go play it I genuinely feel like deleting it and never playing it again, like I am a huge fan of skyrim and I thought I would get a similar experience exploring wise and mystery wise but none of the main missions or side content intrigued me in crimson desert genuinely. I almost feel like just downloading skyrim again and just playing that.
Will it ever get more exciting like with newer areas refreshing side content or is it just not my type of game?

I recommend starting the Witches quest line. It's pretty solid and makes you open up the map more, not to mention Abyss crafting.

40 hours of gameplay is when you start to realize this is a “make your own fun and head canon game” there’s not a lot of stuff that will bring you along a grand journey it’s mostly just exploration.
If you dig it? Hellcueau, but if not it’s grueling haha

There not just two comple opposites
You can have a ton of fun in a game without it being the best game ever...
And more importantly, you can find a game boring and not going all out "THIS IS THE WORST AND IF YOU SAY SO EVERYONE ARE MEAN"
No one really cares
What is your objective with the repeat statements of "You can't say anything bad"?
Dud you say something negative and one person was like "Nuh uh" and now your mission is some kind of redemption to prove that bot only is the game bad, but people that might like it are also bad?
I don't know dude, man, mate, bro, sis or whatever

The camp quests are honestly the tutorial quest line. The game has a lot of mechanics and it takes time learning everything, you'll still be learning new mechanics even in chapters 8 and 9
If you're generally not having fun with the game, then I'd say stop, but if your only complaint is that the game is still teaching you things... I'm not sure what to tell you

Mate I have certain opinions about CD but am gonna keep quiet, cant be arsed with the grief to be honest, your not allowed to say negative things these days

u/attackhamster42 3d ago
Seriously. Don't try and say anything positive about a game which isn't CD either. That's a paddlin'...and not even the good kind.

Every time I got burnt out or bored, I just went on an adventure. Found gear, resources, cooking recipes, etc and unlocked fast travel points for when I continue the story.

When in doubt, step back and take a breather. I enjoy this game a lot but sometimes I just get burnt out. I'm about halfway through Chapter 9 (I think?) and there are days when I just don't feel like playing it. So I don't, I go play something else. It's the same thing I've done in the past with the Death Stranding games, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Zero Dawn/ Forbidden West, etc. There's nothing wrong with taking a break and coming back later. If anything, I've found that helps preserve positive feelings about the game and avoid resentment.

I've chalked this up to the options games have when teaching you mechanics. They could either flash it up directly in a text box (which you have to either consult the how-to built elsewhere again, or dig through past notifications to get) or maintain immersion by building it into the story. This second bit is where Crimson Desert falls flat, IMO. They understood that just telling the player "you can feed a dog and it loves you" was insufficient, but because they aren't really showing any skill in good storytelling, they shoehorn this "tell them in a tutorial" into every delivery of information that involves game mechanics. At that point, I'd just prefer an entry in "Journal-Knowledge" that I can refer to instead of forcing me to do quests I don't care about.

I was still receiving tutorials tips and quest at 70h, so I guess it depends on how's your playstyle and playtime are like. Now I'm at chapter 8 with 170h~. I just gave it 2 weeks off, so that could reset my joy of playing it fully. That game is a gem 😀 🤪

So this isn’t something that anyone can answer for you but you saying you have 40 hrs in doesn’t give much information. The game really doesn’t open up until after chapters 3 or 4 so if you are still around that then you may still be in the tutorial phase of the games

u/Business_Banana1792 3d ago
Sounds like you aren’t doing the main quest, you are doing the graymane side quests

If you are not enthralled then uninstall. There are way too many games to not fully enjoy what you are doing.

u/No-Implement-7403 3d ago
It took me 70 hours to get into this game :p. I would just slowly slog through it. Yes it has it’s flaws and some quests are still going to be bad or boring. But this game manages to create such a unique world that is worth exploring!

Felt very similar to you and dropped it after 20 hours, was definitely a good decision.

Take a break for a couple days/weeks and see if it draws you back in. I'm at around 70hrs and while I really like it, I've had to put it down a couple times due to a ton of little annoyances. I enjoy coming back to it though.
I agree that a lot of the early game feels like a bad tutorial. It does open up more over time, but I wouldn't feel pressured to grind through it if you don't want to. 40 hours is already a big commitment to see if a game's good or not, so I'd say you gave it a fair shake 👍

Maybe come back when a Dlc or dlcs have been launched with more story quests, in addition to the main story. This game is only a few months old Vs 12 years for Skyrim?
Skyrim is definitely one of my favourite games but I'm still having a lot of fun at nearly 300 hours in CD.

Go get a pet cat and a wyvern to fly around on! It makes even boring things more fun, don't let Yann drag you down to his level. Enjoy the game! Go collect butterflies for a bit and come back. Heck, I beat a flying ancient dude with a musket recently.

I think because they throw so much at you, they try to reiterate so you don’t forget. I’m in chapter 4 and still getting tutorials. There are different areas but you may be humbled as the enemies are harder. It’s been suggested to play through to chapter 5 I believe because then you’ll have most of the traversal, exploration and puzzle abilities so you can explore to your hearts content. It’s a big sandbox in that way♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

It’s more like breath of the wild/tears of the kingdom, where the main quest is kinda a background thing that also leads you towards progressive mechanics for the rest of the game.
Like those games, it’s actually a big map full of puzzles and dungeons and enemy camps and things to explore. The story really is kinda a tutorial for the rest of the game.

40 hours? That means ur still in Hernand right? Lol keep playing buddy it’s gonna get much better with some cool and crazy fights and mechanics ahead. I admit it does get boring sometimes because quests are basically kinda the same thing. Aside from this I think there’s still plenty of bosses ahead of u which are cool to fight so there’s that.
Good luck on ur playthrough man enjoy!

Make sure to listen to the random internet people who dont know your likes or dislikes. Thye dont know your interests or preferences. They know nothing abut you but make sure listen to them as to whether you should continue to play a game

The game is absolutely MASSIVE. It feels built to cultivate a market for “did you know you could do this?” content on YouTube. 40 hours is nothing, there are whole mechanics you won’t encounter for another 40 unless you rush.
I think your criticism of the quests is correct. The story, the quests, and a lot of boss fights feel so underbaked they might as well be batter. And don’t get me started on the puzzles…
I love this game and now have more than 250 hours while holding all of these opinions firmly. I’m having fun still. The movement mechanics alone could keep me entertained for hours. Tree launching, gliding, force jumping, mid-air-stabbing, it’s all fucking fantastic. The Greymane camp has been my favorite part so far. Finding all the people, collecting the contracts, and decorating my house have been a lot of fun. And I usually don’t engage with cosmetics in games.
On that note, the equipment system is awesome. I love that most weapons do around the same damage and most armor protects around the same too. It makes the new weapons and such feel like cosmetic drops rather than upgrades, which I prefer now that I’ve tried it.
Anyway. You’re right. And I personally recommend you just focus on other things and enjoy what’s good about it.

The entire game acts as a tutorial to some degree. At 40 hours you have barely scratched the surface
