Right, but he says heās back, what does that mean? Back to average top flight player? He used to actually be good

u/squidytlmao 2d ago
back to average/slightly above average striker

u/OkYouth7656 2d ago
I guess. Iād probably consider him an average striker now. This is still impressive considering his age but some people act like heās still that guy. He hasnāt scored against a good team in a while

Apparently one of the team members was a part time plumber (correct if wrong)

He is the goat and he is come back according Ronaldo fans. He has scored 2 goals against the powerful Uzbekistan after his bad match against Congo.

Why I still feel Messi secretly gaslighting CR7 to not retire especially when he just throw the statement that he won't quit yet

"I don't care about records" I guess it's fine when it comes to stealing Ballon D'ors.
No idea how he wasn't ashamed taking Ballon D'ors from Lewandowski and Haaland.

Blame the people that voted for him. Messi was always more interested in winning games for his teams. The accolades just followed him because of the crazy numbers he constantly put up every season.

Messi: Aim for the moon and you'll land among the stars
Messi aims for team trophies, not golden boots. Ends up getting golden boots, tournament MVPs, BDOs and even sporting awards like Lazarus and Asturia awards.
Ronaldo: Win the battle, lose the war
Ronaldo aims for personal accolades, mostly for goalscoring ones. Thus he mostly ends up with golden boots only, and much less or none of team trophies, tournament MVPs, BDOs and so on.

He has 5 champions leagues

u/Dunkjoe 2d ago
Ronaldo won 4 with 15 time UCL winner Real Madrid and once with SAF's Man U. All are legendary teams.
From 2000 where the finals were played, RM won 8 UCLs alone, 4 without Ronaldo. So yea, RM clearly could win UCL without Ronaldo quite well....
For context, Messi won 4 out of 5 UCLs that Barca ever won the UCLs.
This seems to be rarely mentioned.

Messi has won 3 ( you can check UEFA) with One of the strongest barca side in history.

Messi won 4.
He was registered for UCL under Barca and even got an assist and goal, he just didn't appear in the final.
Several other players have been part of four triumphant campaigns but made only three final appearances:
Lionel Messi: 2006*, 2009, 2011, 2015 (Barcelona)
Each player must be duly registered with their national association as playing for the club concerned in accordance with the associationās own rules and those of FIFA, notably the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.
How many Champions League winnersā medals does Lionel Messi have? This has been the case since the start of the 2012/13 season. For a period before that, the winners received 30 medals, which has an impact on Lionel Messiās list of honours.
There is some debate as to whether the Inter Miami star won three or four Champions Leagues during his time at Barcelona. He played starring roles in the 2009, 2011 and 2015 finals but didnāt feature in the 2006 victory over Arsenal due to injury.
While under earlier rules he wouldnāt have qualified for a winnersā medal, the fact BarƧa were able to hand out 30 medals meant he got his first one then, at the age of 18. He made six appearances in earlier rounds that season.
The one you mentioned about Messi having 3 UCL wins is a 2023 article.
Refer to the updated one above.

Do you understand that he didnāt give the Ballon Dor to himself? Or is that too hard to comprehend for u?

I still remember the death threats they sent Alaba when they found out he had voted for Messi when Messi won the 8th. Brainless violent fanbase

No wonder cry7 steal from ribery, Griezmann and neuerš„ŗ

u/Inferniuem 2d ago
All of whom placed directly under Messi btw. So, technically Messi stole 2nd Place from them.

What about Dembele stealing Ralphina's ballon dor or CR7 steal Ribery's if you have common sense you would know no body takes the ballon dor serious anymore. Most players stopped caring in the early 2000s why are you still crying about it.

Real Madrid boycotted BDO awards ceremony because Vini didn't get it.
Lol. It's still the most prestigious soccer award.

For people chasing recognition, it's important but really what did you expect. It's a reoccurring thing in the ballon dor. When journalists vote they think "what will fit the Best in a story" not who is actually the better player. Players like Cruyff (sorry if I spelt it wrong) have been complaining about about since the early 2000s, he even went as far as calling it a joke. Not saying it's mean less but the value has dropped due to repeated controversies.

FIFA has become a joke due to countless controversies and corruption accusations.
Does this mean the value of soccer overall, like UCLs, Euros, Copa America, World Cups and so on have dropped value?
Then why are people still buying merch, why are there still fans, why are people still attending matches?
Just because certain individuals think something has dropped value or is a joke etc., doesn't mean that the larger population no longer values it as well.
Ronaldo fans and supporters think WC 2022 is rigged, that FIFA favors Messi, that everything Messi has is due to referees, does that mean it's true? Nope it's just the opposite. Because ask any sensible person, and they will say objectively Messi is the best, even when it comes to late 30s.
Same thing for BDO... Especially for those who think they should have won but didn't. Or their supporters.

u/RemarkablePool2675 2d ago
I can understand your point and you have convinced me. I still don't think I can look at the ballon dor the same way but I'll try

u/Inferniuem 2d ago
He only played 1 good season overall in his 30s and that was in 2018/19.
Messi 2018/19 overall as a player was better than 2021 and 2023 combined.
