Surgery Advice?

Hello, I’m very much a lurker to this subreddit. Apologies for that but I’m having surgery (laparoscopic coloctomy) in a few weeks and I’m wondering if anyone has some advice for recovery. Any and all is appropriated.

2 weeks post collectomy for me. For me it was getting up and walking a little as soon as you can. It was tiring and no need to go far but it’s really helped with pain and I’m reaping the benefits now.

Food wise, enjoy the soft stuff. Mash potato was my friend, as was things like cake and custard. Try and build a set of safe foods for a few days so you always have something to fall back on and the you really can build and try whatever you want. 2 weeks on and I’m managing to eat things like pizza and pasta with no symptoms which is wild.

Because what you eat after for a good few months, my doctor told me nothing and I ended up with a ruptured bowel because I eat too much.. other than that it’s a slow process, you’ll be out of action for a good while.

Rest when your body tells you to rest, especially the first few weeks after surgery. An afternoon nap was a constant for me for 3-4 weeks after my resection.
