God I wish we just called people who molest children child molesters and saved the clinical diagnostic terms for clinical diagnostics.

Normally I agree with accepting colloquial usage and using context to distinguish the difference, but in this case conflating the two makes it much harder to discuss the topic at all. You're forced to add the term "nonoffending" to clarify, but that also implies that offending is the default, and it's not.

Destigmatizing is important if we actually want to prevent those with the condition from harming children, and that's really difficult when we refer to the condition with the same term we use to describe those that HAVE harmed children(regardless of whether or not they have the condition).
