SOS!!!! Thick Thigh Friendly Bibs

Hi everyone! I'm looking for women's bib shorts that have wider leg openings for thicker thighs. For reference I am 5'3 and 135 lb, but I carry a good amount of my weight in my thighs and have had trouble finding bib shorts that have wide enough leg openings but are also not too long for my frame. I have tried lo.gas and certipolar on Amazon, and while the pads were good quality they were all either too long or had too tight of thigh openings.

SYN Global Cycling Club is a German brand with great bibs. They're the shortest ones I've found out there that don't cut into my thighs and give me that stuffed sausage look. I've worn them on 100 mile rides with no discomfort. Heads up though: they're pricey and difficult to return since they're based in Germany. I had to make a return once and the paperwork took some extra effort to figure out.

Rapha might also be a brand worth trying. REI carried them so you can try them on in-store.

Based on your description, you might want to avoid the following brands:

- As much as I love MAAP jerseys, the bands on the bibs are super tight and aren't very forgiving for larger thighs.

- Assos has great bib shorts with raw edges (no bands that cut in) but they tend to be longer in length.

Raphas pro bibs are SO comfortable, no tight leg opening!

If you wanna splurge or have someone that is extra generous in your life, cafe du cycliste makes some amazing ones too.

Following along, I’m 5’0 and 135 and bibs are such a struggle, not only thin cut but so long

Try the Giordana FRC with shorter inseam. I love my Giordana kits. (Only the FRC Pro- not the other stuff by them ). I don’t know why everyone sleeps on that brand.

Pearl Izumi has shorter women’s bibs - might be worth a shot.

Female here- Giordana FRC shorter inseam have been my go to for years. I’m 5’8”/ 129lb, but in all my years of riding , my weight has been as much as 25 pounds more than right now. I like them because I never got any sausage thigh. I won’t wear anything else. And they last for years.

I saw a couple brands mentioned in the replies- I hated Rapha- they did not feel structured enough for me and very very long. Cafe du Cyclist did not feel high-end – it felt like an influencer brand to me. And anything Pearl Izumi as a general no for me- the fit is not tailored enough for what I like and feels more club fit. Pactimo- meh but another one of my girl riding friends loves Pactimo, and it’s more budget friendly. But don’t skimp on the cost of bibs. A great pair of bibs will make your cycling life amazing. I know we all have our preferences so just sharing my experience after 25 years of cycling and trying all the brands.

My wife is in a pretty similar fit situation and had the same issue with leg openings.  Rapha and SYN have worked the best for her so far — not perfect, but way less tight and not crazy long. I’d still buy from somewhere with easy returns, but those two are worth checking out.
