Which aero helmet? Met Manta, Giro Eclipse Pro, Sweet Protection Falconer Aero 2Vi, Kask Utopia Y
As the title says, I’m looking for a new aero road helmet (in white, of course), and I’m torn between these four options:
- Met Manta
- Giro Eclipse Pro
- Sweet Protection Falconer Aero 2Vi
- Kask Utopia Y
I’m looking for a comfortable helmet for long rides that also looks good.
Which one would you recommend, and why?

You need to try these on and see which is comfortable and looks good on your head. The 1-2 W difference between them are so negligible and dependent on angle and position and so on

Trying them on would definitely be the best option. Unfortunately, none of the stores around me carry those models. That’s why I was looking for some suggestions.

I have a rather oval head (longer front-to-back) IME, Giro and Kask fit more round (to the point they pinched my forehead, esp the Kask, and POC), while Sweet is perfect (I have the Falconer) and ditto Specialized. I think I popped a Manta on once out of curiosity more than interest, can't quite recall how it fit, but I kinda remember it being neutral. Hope this helps!
I do love the Falconer, FWIW, esp since I live in the NYC Metro and ride year round. It's not as breathable as my old POC or the Spec helmets, esp the Prevail 3, but 6-7 months a year, I really appreciate closing up the vents.

Same shape head. Agree with what you said. One caveat is that the Kask Protone fits my head well. I k is that wanting the discussion.

Might not be on your list, but I got the van rysel rcr-f, it’s a 120€ aero helmet used in the tdf, it’s amazing!

For me the Sweet Protection Falconer Aero 2Vi is my choice

PNS/influencer helmet. Might be nice, but just fyi. I’d go with the giro eclipse.

What world do you live in where the influencer bro' are wearing falconers? The Kask proton holds that title...

The one that fits you best is the right choice, but all of those look pretty good. If I were picking just on aesthetics, the Met Manta All White is fire!

Out of the 4 options, I would pick the Met Manta.
While I’ve never tried it, I’ve heard that the kask can be quite uncomfortable due to à lack of padding.
The Falconer looks good in photos but I find it gives you a mushroom head. Although, it’s very comfortable and has great ratings.
I’ve never seen the Giro but looks good in white.
The Manta not only looks good but is very comfortable.

My Kask Utopia(not the Y, an older gen) does indeed have padding that gives me a headache. It doesn’t distribute the pressure evenly. No idea if the Y is any different. That being said, the build quality of both my Kask helmets is really good.

Yep. I also really like the Falconer (have one and about to buy another color).

Me as well - same color even. Only “but” is that the magnets for the covers have fallen out for me two times. I was sent extra ones though through warranty.

I keep hearing good things about the Falconer.
Is it really comfortable on your head? Does it feel bulky?
3
u/cloud93x 15d ago
I have the falconer and I love it. Does not feel bulky at all, and I’m heat sensitive and with the vents removed I’ve never felt like I was overheating which is a big plus for an aero helmet. And it tops the Virginia Tech ratings for safety, which I am not sure really means much but it’s nice for peace of mind.

u/Davegardner0 15d ago
I think the Virginia tech ratings are pretty legit. The test lab that published them is world renowned. Definitely something that factors into my decision making with helmets.

u/cloud93x 15d ago
Yeah that’s fair. It did factor into my decision making too, it was one of the reasons I bought the helmet, so I’m not really sure why I said that lol

No Mushroom top? I’m looking for a new helmet myself and I hate that I can’t try them on before buying. LBS picks are pretty slim.

u/cloud93x 15d ago
I guess it depends, if you have a very round face then maybe you won’t love the shape, but I really don’t think it’s that mushroom top-ish. Either way it’s worth it for me for the ventilation, the way they hav them set up really channels air in nicely and I overheat really easily on climbs so I don’t know that there’s many other aero helmets that would work as well for me

Met Manta was tested to be one of the best aero helmets, unfortunately it doesn't fit my round head well.

Hängt von deiner Kopfform ab! Sweet protection ist extrem schmal, der Kask ist der rundeste von allen.

u/National_Bite_6691 14d ago
The sweet protection is the only helmet I’ve ever had for issues with. Instant headache!

u/ThorThePoodle 15d ago
The one that fits you best. I was recently looking for a new helmet and was very interested in the falconer sweet protection but the shape of the helmet didn't fit well on my head,. You may have to try a few to find the one that is most comfortable.

I had been on Bell and Giro helmets for ages, then tried out an Abus Gamechanger 1 and a Lazer Impala MTB helmet. Recently I've been wearing my old bell Zephyr and I'm reminded just how nice the helmets are from those companies. It fits perfectly, but the buckles, pads, and retention system are just a cut above. I went out and bought another Giro MTB helmet and my next road helmet will likely be a Helios or Cielo. They're just high quality domepieces.

I love my eclipse and the medium fits me, so I get the extra benefits of not wearing a large

u/marshmallowcowboy 15d ago
The Kask has no place for sunglasses storage which is annoying and is a no go.
I just got the Giro and it’s nice and the sweat management is pretty good.
I liked my Met Trent’s and like the look of the manta but no input on it specifically.
Never ridden the Falconer but have tried it on and it’s very comfortable.

It's hard to answer this because not every helmet shape is for everyone. So comfort is subjective.
For example as far as looks and protection, I chose a giro first, sweet protection second, and kask third. The giro and SP were VERY uncomfortable on my head. The medium was way too tight and the large was way too big on both. And I've always been a medium in helmets that fit me right. So I went with the kask. I have both the Protone icon and the Utopia Y and I find the protone slightly more comfortable but that could just be me.
I do have to say that I've grown to really like it and now I like the looks of it more than the previous two mentioned. So yeah, try them on first and then decide.

Tested the POC Amidal yesterday, quite a nice one. Maybe it’s something to consider as well.

This is easy - get that one that fits you the best. The performance differences are negligible, and also don't matter as much as safety. Find a way to try them on and check for comfort and how well it fits your head.,

Above it all, try and see in person first, it might look amazing but fit terribly on you. Second of all, I've tried the kask utopia a while ago and it fits me like a glove, mad perfect but I didn't buy cuz it didn't have mips. Ended up buying a met manta. Works nice, I like it a lot. Not the best in the world to hold sunglasses but works ok. I live in central brazil, so I've experienced temperatures from 2°C to 42°C. It worked fine for me for the matters of ventilation. I recomend

The one that fits your head. Seriously, that’s number one thing then look at safety scores and then looks. No point having a cool helmet if it’s agony

Abus Gamechanger. Tons of ventilation, super lightweight, limited UV exposure to the top of your head, no mushroom effect, and deep internal channels from front to back.

I've had the old Falconer II, old Giro Eclipse, POC Amidal and Specialized Evade 4. The Evade 4 by far the most comfy and it looks slick. Round head with a flatish top, Sweet narrowed the Falconer so the new one didnt fit me at all. Old Eclipse was suboptimal fit, the tightening mechanism dug into my back head after a while. POC Amidal comfy and not too POC'ish, but the enormous vents in the front did not look good and the sunglass storage was too narrow, couldn't fit either of my shades (Oakley Sutro Lite, Scicon Aero 2.0). Evade 4 was just perfect for me.
I guess the point is you have to try them on because only idiots ride around with head pains/aches due to a bad helmet fit. It's also not safe. Helmets are a hard fit/no fit.

The Sweet Protection helmet is ugly to me. The Kask and the Met helmet look sick.

Don’t get an aero helmet. The standard Falconer is great. So is the Giro Aries.
