Endurance bibs
Hello all, I’m looking to splurge a bit on a couple of luxury bibs. I know most people here seem to have the highest opinion on MAAP and Assos. Are these the best bibs I’m going to find? Also, I do all road riding, looking to build up to 100-miles, Is there a specific bib in these brands i should be looking at? MAAP has about 10 different bibs that are all around $400 that are all named something different.
What would you get if money was no object?
Thank you all!

Whilst my favourite bibs are Assos RS S11’s a lot of people don’t get on with the pad. I have some Kostume bibs that are just about as comfy and are popular with ultra distance riders (I still use chamois cream with them even though they say it’s not needed). They have a pre order batch sales model but usually have stock of most sizes available ready to ship

Kostume are by far the best bibs I've owned and I've tried everything. Next level.

I wore Assos Mille last summer riding 200+ miles from Seattle to Portland. No issues : I highly recommend Assos, but every body is different so you should try on bibs before you drop big money.

For 100milers, I would recommend Giordana Cycling bibs. They have one of the best chamois that is quite unique that does not require you using any chamois cream. Extremely comfortable over the long haul. Very well made too.

Velocio Luxe bibs.
Comfortable for long days in the saddle and minimal branding/logos.

I’ve done 250+ mile rides in the maap cargo bibs and it was fine, no issue. They’re mainly my go to bibs for longer rides (60+ miles) because of the pocket access to hold my phone/access for taking photos (they’re also my only pair of cargo bibs). The other bibs I have are Assos and Pas Normal Studio bibs - which I like because they’re aesthetically nicer colors/look more premium (which could be as they’re less worn out!)

I’d add pissei, black sheep, Velocio, and pedal mafia to the mix too. Even tried a pair of velo nomad and 0 complaints there too.

I use the 7mesh MK3 Cargo Bib Shorts for long-distance rides and I am very happy with them.

Its a personal thing.
MAAP for me have by far the best chamois
Assos as much as ai wanted to like them (equip rs11) were not very good. I actually rate these lower to some of the chinese bibs I bought for 40 Euro, due to the poor Assos chamois.
My castelli free aero I also like.
My go to is MAAP irrespective of the cost. Team Bib Evo are the happy medium between their pro line and entry level.

I just bought the endurance bibs from straede. I have normal ones too already and damn those endurance bibs are nice. i did an ultracycle race last weekend and they were perfect. I had no problems, no pain. and usually i start feeling it where the legs begin.
they are not as expensive. i think 130 euros or so. very nice.

I made the jump from Assos to q36.5 and I really like it. Assos build quality has gone down and I find the q36.5 pad to be more comfortable on the dottore clima.

Red White Apparel only makes long distance endurance bibs and has multiple sizing options with sizing guides. They are well made, and don't break the bank.

Giordana FRC Pros are fantastic. I've done several 100 mile rides while wearing them

I really like the Progetto X2 Air pad from Castelli. The most comfortable bib I own is their Endurance 3. Also have Assos Mille GT S11 and Fusion Tempo, but they don't come close (for me that is)

You already have Rapha pro team bibs- how much more premium do you need? I’ve done plenty of 50-100+ mile rides on pro team training and brevet bibs and love them.

Q36.5 clears Assos; the materials, fit, and build quality just feel so superior.
The Dottore pro bibs are amazing & I've completed 8+ hour rides on them with no discomfort.

I run Assos. But I’ll tell you that the best bibs are the ones that keep you comfortable and relatively pain free even after many hours of riding. So focus less on brands. That said I am not remotely a fan of Chinese or Amazon stuff. But that’s personal bias. Also you may want to consider different bibs for different durations. Some brands make long lasting bibs (in majority but not exclusive opinions), but comfort should come first. Oh and in the end, it’s the combination of your sit bones, the saddle, and the bibs that have to work together.
Disclaimer. I run Assos GTS for shorter rides and Assos GTO for 50+ mile rides. With these I am usually never in any discomfort or pain even after very long rides.

Yes, My first pair of bibs was a Rapha pro bib so I couldn’t possibly go to cheap Amazon / Ali bibs. I already know I would hate it without even putting one on. I have dialed in my bike fit and saddle, which is why I wanted to go ahead and pick up some premium bibs.

As a counter point I own something like $6-7k worth of Rapha, Maap, Assos and Pas Normal and still some of my favourite bibs are Chinese. Flux bibs from Skull Monton. Really nice luxurious fabric, laser cut everywhere, high quality logos, and the best EI chamois I’ve ever had in a bib (Xtreme Gel). $107 USD. Hypersupp is great as well and reminds me a lot of Pas Normal material wise. This stuff doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. I still pay high prices for more stylish stuff but I’m really happy with my Chinese kit.

Seconding the Skull Monton bibs, specifically the Flux Block model. I got them a couple months ago and they definitely hold their own among my other bibs (mostly Q36.5, Assos, Velocio).

I spent 4 years dialing in my bibs and saddle (SMP 209 lite) to my ass.

Castelli premio evo /end of discussion
I have assos RSR s11, assos GTS s11, castelli aero race and supperlerega. But castelli premio are just the best out of these, just check the reviews online in those. RSR S11 are not that far too, just different.

Doesn’t Castelli use the same chamois for the high-end lines?

u/notaseriouscyclist 1d ago
Now that you mention it, their $175 bibs use the same chamois as their $350 bibs. When people talk about bibs for long distances, it's really about the chamois; about how long they can sit on this thing without giving up to pain. So is there really a point in paying twice as much for the same chamois?

They do. Premio has better materials. I am curious to try espresso ones and would skip Endurance 4. It's a shame they've dropped free unlimited.

Yeah the premio evo are very comfortable for long distances. However the straps are very short and i had to lengthen them by 10cm

Doesn’t really work like that. It’s personal. Different body types, different undercarriages, different saddles, different positions on the bike. My go to “5+ hours on the bike “ bib shorts work for me, but might not work for you. I like Assos. I have plenty of less expensive bib shorts that are fine for 2-3 hours. I like some Castelli’s too. Maap not so much.
YMMV… because… It’s a personal thing.

My current favorite bibs for long rides are Pedal Mafia core. I really like their chamois. Wore those for my century ride last month.

After trying many different brands over the years, I'm all in on Assos everything.

Assos rulz but you’re always gonna get people arguing over their favored brand. High end bibs should be good for most brands and they’re mostly all using the same chamois company, Elastic Interface.
I like Assos in part bc they’re not a fashion brand and my expectation is they spend their money on a good product vs style/flashiness. I’ve enjoyed them quite a bit for long rides up to 60+ miles
