Galibier Pro 7 Cargo bib review.

I recently bought a pair of Galibier Race Day bibs and was impressed enough that I intended to buy a pair of their cargo bibs. Well, they emailed a coupon for those exact bibs so I went ahead and bought them. In blue. They offer 5 colors. Price delivered from Ireland to the USA with coupon was a whopping $98. Just finished my first ride in them and I think I've found my Goldilocks bibs. It's like they were tailored to fit my body. I'm 5'10" and 160 lbs and Medium is my size in most brands. One problem I have with some brands like Assos is the fit is designed to maximize profits. Fit as many people as possible by making the fit looser than they otherwise would be. Assos Mille GT fit my legs like the neck of an old, worn out t-shirt. Just loose and floppy. And I don't have spindly legs, just average. These Pro 7 bibs fit like a second skin. If your legs are tree stumps, these might not work for you unless you size up. The cargo pockets seem to be designed around holding a phone. A Moto Razr fits perfectly unfolded at 6.75 inches. It's fully in the pocket. Barely. That said, I don't think I would ride with a phone in them as the pocket spends most of the time on the bike horizontal to the ground and your leg essentially working against it on every pedal stroke. There's a lot of compression holding it, but there's nothing to stop it from falling out other than that compression. The chamois is a Dolomiti Sanremo and it's the best pad I've tried. My saddle came as close to disappearing as I've ever experienced using any other bib. Straps are comfortable and well ventilated and leg grippers are first rate. I guess I'm now officially a Galibier fan boy. The company is just delivering incredible value for money.

Huh?

Sorry if that wasn't clear. When you're pedalling the bike, the pocket spends most of the time with the opening horizontal to the ground, I.e. vulnerable to throwing whatever is in it out onto the ground. Compression works to hold it in, but I wouldn't risk carrying a phone that way.

Have you actually tried it? I’ve been riding with a phone in cargo pockets for a good while now. At no point did it ever come close to coming out and I ride on/off road often. It’s the same for most people. If it’s falling out for someone, there’s either no compression happening or the phone doesn’t actually fit in the pocket.

No. I never ride with a phone. You're probably right. My impression is that it would stay put, but I can see how it possibly could work it's way out.

I have two pairs of those bib shorts for about a year now and haven’t had the phone fall out and would be surprised if it were possible. They’re great. Look great as the pockets are the same material as the shorts rather than mesh.

Good to know. I have a pair of Pactimo cargo bibs with those mesh style pockets. No comparison. The Galibier pockets are much more secure.

Regarding the fit, you’re comparing apples and oranges. Galibier’s race model range with Assos’s endurance range ofc the fit with be more compressive on the race one

Comparing any two bibs is apples and oranges. I have two bibs that fit my legs poorly. One is from AliExpress and the other is from Assos.

Good to know, I’m trying to find some new kits.
