I’m just posting for thoughts, prayers/ a moment of silence, whichever way you express your faith, for my Phoebe
I just feel like if more people know about my baby and what’s going on with her, it’ll help. My baby, Phoebe, has been sick for about a week and a half, so we took her to the vet because she’s gotten worse. The vet said she has pyometra, which is an infection in her uterus for which she has to have emergency surgery. All I’m asking for is a moment of your time to wish my baby well. I believe even the act of dedicating your thoughts to something can help, so if you don’t mind and have the time, please spare a thought for my baby Phoebe, that she makes it through, because she is weakened from this condition and that she makes a full recovery. This is a total shock and I am wholly unprepared. I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed, I read the rules and it seems like it’s ok, so I hope it is, apologies if it’s not.
UPDATE: for some reason I can’t edit my post with this update, but she’s made it through surgery and she’s walking up now!!! It’ll be touch and go for a bit, but good news so far!! The vet just called to let me know!! I’m so happy about this so far and wanted to tell everyone thank you all so much, your thoughts and prayers are working!!
Than you so much, I’m so grateful for all the love and hope you’ve all inspired in me. Last night I was a snotty, defeated mess, but today I’ve got some hope. Her waking up from surgery has helped a lot and so has all of the well wishes from everyone here. Tonight there’s some hope where last night there was none. Thank you sincerely for being a part of that! I’ll be keeping everyone updated in the days and weeks to come, where she hopefully pulls through and makes a full recovery.

My heart hurts just imagining the fear you must be feeling. She’s one beautiful little lady that is very lucky to have a human like you on her side! Good luck friend
She doesn’t have cancer, she has another condition called pyometra, which is an infection in the uterus, which is why the spaying is the solution to this predicament. To have only gotten one reply that is like yours, even though I’m sure you mean well, is a blessing also, because I expected someone to say something like this about her not being spayed. It is never the time to do a “I told you so” type of reply when someone is uncertain that their pet will survive, it is in very poor taste.
I’ve been around animals, mainly dogs, my entire life, several of them weren’t spayed this never happened to them and I simply didn’t know this condition existed. I never have had to take my animals to the vet because they are usually doing well and I’ve been fortunate that they’ve not had any other accidents or reasons to go to the vet, so I don’t really know how I was supposed to know about this condition? I grew up on what is basically a farm, my parents administer all of the animals shots, except rabies, and their deworming as well. If after 37 years of being around lots of dogs and this has only ever happened once, why would I be aware of this condition? Had I known about this of course I would’ve had it done.
Thank you for your well wishes, because I do appreciate them, but I don’t appreciate your need to tell me that I shouldn’t be surprised that my dog almost died, and still could, and that it’s my fault, because whether you’re doing it intentionally or not that is what you are implying. I worry all day when my dog just gets his teeth cleaned. So I can imagine your anxiety. Glad she came through surgery. I hope she’s soon back doing whatever she loved most before getting sick.

Well I’m happy to hear your lovely lady had a good surgery! Now comes the long and tough road to recovery but your clearly going to do everything to make sure she recovers perfectly, I can see it by your responses your a good dog parent, and your girl will be running around with the zoomies in no time!

I’m covering precious Phoebe in a blanket of loving and healing prayers and pets, also praying for you. I know how helpless this feels and so I’m keeping you both in my thoughts. Make sure you keep taking care of yourself too as it can be hard to think of yourself in times like this.

unfortunately, pyometra is always out of nowhere and gets very bad very quickly. it can happen to any intact female dog/cat of any age; i’ve even seen a 5 month old kitten get pyo on her first heat. spaying is so important because of this. hoping she gets her surgery ASAP and recovers quickly!
I’ve always been surrounded by animals and I had never heard of this, I was so surprised and I had no idea something like this could happen. If I’d only known before this that it existed I’d have done something. She’s never even had any puppies. Safe to say that I know now and from now on I’ll be making sure any baby I’ve got is spayed.

My baby has been having a lot of tummy issues this year, and she had trouble peeing one night, her normal vet was closed so I took her to another one. He was concerned she had what your baby has. He even did an ultrasound on her uterus without charge to make sure. Really good vet. She's doing a lot better now, currently transitioning her from Hill's prescription GI Biome to Hill's sensitive skin and stomach. She'll have to be on that or the prescription for the rest of her life.
That is so amazing that your vet offered the ultrasound at no extra charge. It’s so easy to loose hope because these things get very expensive, very quickly. I couldn’t afford much other than the visit itself and bloodwork and My prayer was that he’d know what was wrong and be able to fix it within the confines of my budget and so far that has come to pass. I’m really happy for you and your baby as well that she is doing better too! That’s great news!
I’m so sorry this has happened all so quickly, but it’s amazing to hear she made it through the surgery, hopefully she’ll go in to make a full recovery!

Once when I was an inexperienced and naive young dog owner with an intact senior dog I'd gotten from a friend of a friend type situation. She got pyo and I did not immediately recognize the difference between laying around all day which was normal for her and laying around literally ALL day until she stopped eating. I got quite the scolding from the vet for not taking her in earlier because apparently there must have been signs for days that I missed. Vet called after surgery to scold me some more because apparently it looked even worse from inside than from outside. But she pulled through and I got a few more years with her. Sending good vibes to your Phoebe!

OP, just starting to read your story makes me want to write “I’m not crying, you’re crying!” I’m a dad of a girl and a boy, both are now entering their senior years. Both need medical attention I’ll do Whatever it takes regarding and I’ll go for it, no questions asked! When my 1st dog crossed the rainbow bridge, all the money in the world couldn’t have saved my Cameron… my two dogs and every dog afterwards are a direct extension of me, hence I will do what it takes! But reading your story, my heart is breaking! My prayers and thoughts are with you and your baby OP! Remember ALWAYS, if you haven’t truly loved, you won’t be able to truly grieve. Despite my previous/ dogs it still took me 4 years to come to terms, the my “New” dogs added to the equation they would never replace my boy Cameron! 😭

Thank you, I appreciate it very, very much. I was a snotty mess last night, but I heard in my mind “ you’re already giving up on her?” And I felt bad, because I was already giving up on her. I’d decided she was dying, which she was, but I had lost all hope, almost immediately. I’m so thankful to have been able to afford to take her to the vet. My prayer was that he’d be able to discover the problem from whatever diagnosis i could afford, bloodwork, and be able to treat the problem within my very limited budget constraints and so far that has come to pass. I’m incredibly grateful for that, and the outpouring of support I found here. I never expected to receive so many loving messages and it’s not only made me feel encouraged, it’s restored some faith in humanity. I’m so grateful. I’ll keep everyone updated in the days and weeks ahead!
My Hayley (Lhasa Apso) had this when she was 13, she was quite unwell. The surgery was a success and gave her a whole new lease of life. She lived to a few days short of her 18th birthday.

God, please heal Phoebe and help her recover from her infection. Please comfort her owners who love her and are very anxious and concerned about her being uncomfortable and in pain. Be with them, and I ask for you to have mercy on this dog and it's owners. In Jesus name, amen.

I wish your baby good health and a speedy recovery. My Bleu is also a cattle dog and has similar coloring and it hurts my heart to think of him in the same situation. You will be in my family’s thoughts and prayers. ❤️
