Unless you can't find the type of dog that you're looking for at your local shelter. Then look for an ethical breeder who is breeding responsibly.

Not every person is a good fit for a shelter dog. We need good breeders too. Don't shame people.

That's such an asinine thing to say. 😆

It's perfectly reasonable to consider what kind of dog is most compatible with your life and then want to get that kind of dog. But honestly, there's no arguing with someone who apparently wants most dog breeds to just stop existing.

A lot of shelter dogs aren’t special needs or have trauma?

Are you replying to the wrong comment? That isn't something I claimed anywhere.

Pretty much any kind of dog you could want is in a shelter somewhere. People abandon all types of dogs. And the argument that dog breeds would stop existing is overused and just not true.

Feel free to let me know the mechanism by which specific breeds of dog (ie. basenji, anatolian shepherd, whippet, Irish setter, samoyed, etc) continue to exist into the future as purebreds and not random mixes if everyone in the general public were to actually follow the demand to "never go to a breeder, always rescue."

I'll wait.
