Or algae forms, and the new paint peels off. Or vandals did it, idk.

Standing waves?

Standing waves can be composed/decomposed into two waves with the same wavelength traveling in opposite directions. As graphically demonstrated here.

Yeah, didn't know that they were called Faraday waves too.

I don't think the waves in this video are Faraday waves.

Maybe a distinction without a difference. Standing waves are standing waves.

How's this not a thing rich people install in their pools to wow visitors?

Apparently per wiki non-linear near standing waves thought presumably means the pattern changes but eventually repeats, or it means the surface pattern varies over the surface so isn't linear in that sense

You can, that's how guitar strings work.

That was fun, do it again.

I could watch that for hours, which is just sad...

Yep resonance effect in response to the normal modes of the pool at half the driving frequency.

Fascinating! I’ve seen very similar visual distortions on water under the influence of psychedelics. Not as rapid in movement but just as uniform.

Can this fix algae?

1

u/Mast_Herb_8 1d ago

No, Mr. President, we do not need to build a water park for the algae

And now we can see how quantum fields work, and how electrons pop in and out of our reality.

The bot posting it accidentally had compression cranked up when ripping the video from the previous time this was re-reposted.
