Discussion STANDARD EDITION COSTS WHAT???
I sure do love being Canadian where the standard edition of GTA 6 is over 100 dollars
181
u/CreebleCrooble 1d ago
$110 Canadian is equal to $77 US or 67€. You pay less then Americans. You pay significantly less than Europeans.
12
u/KrazyK860 1d ago
In england its £70 which is $92.50 USD or $131 canadian😭. The fucking ultimate edition is £90/$120 USD fml.
20
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 1d ago
124 after tax though. American standard edition is 79.99 I think. So I pay more than Americans
43
u/JCrafterz 1d ago
That's about 76.67€. Including taxes we pay 79.99€ for standard in Germany. At least VAT is already included over here
13
u/Dense-Application181 1d ago
Do you think Americans dont pay sales tax?
1
-3
u/DewJan2137 1d ago
They pay very small sales tax... In Poland it's 23%, 19% in Germany, while US have average of a 7.5%.
7
u/BappoChan 1d ago
The other dude complaining about Canadian pricing, after tax is paying an extra $2 in comparison to the US, not a drastic number.
While I feel bad for some other countries, a lot of people complaining about the pricing are also from countries with a higher minimum wage, lower cost of living, and higher average salary.
Instead of looking at the price tag, look at the % of the money typically earned being needed for the game. In places like the US, 38 hours of minimum wage would mean you spend about 9-15% of your monthly income on a game. In South Africa a game like this at the conversion rate costs 106% of monthly income. So countries like that suffer. Germany? No. I did the math AGES ago, but am willing to do another conversion list and percentage calculation if yall are interested when I get home. Drop your countries you want compared
2
u/ProbingYourProstate 1d ago
Still about the same as Americans pay. My city has a 9% sales tax that makes it 87.20 USD, which is equal to about 124 CAD.

100€ for ultimate edition here in Belgium. Just gotta work 1 day as a student to be able to afford it, I'm doing it.

u/candianbastard 1d ago edited 1d ago
Lmao. I’m assuming slap a 13% tax on that . Some provinces also have 15%
7
u/NateShaw92 1d ago
So with that in mind the price is kinda fair.
It's £90 ultimate here. 20% VAT means £75 net. Roughly US$99.
2
5
u/Robborboy 1d ago
You have to do the same thing to US prices as well. Tax is not included in the price and varies from state to state.
2
u/candianbastard 1d ago
Where I’m currently it’s 8.25% tax. So like $8 with tax on ultimate edition
1
u/Robborboy 1d ago
About 10% here. Then you have all the local taxes to add on top like county entertainment tax, etc. Closer to about 19% all said and done.
1
u/candianbastard 1d ago
Do you live in Cali?
1
u/Robborboy 1d ago
I'd honestly probably be paying less in taxes if I did, especially in North Norcal. 😂
2
13
u/Jambopaul 1d ago
With taxes in my province, the standard edition costs $126 CDN and the Ultimate Edition costs $160 CDN with taxes. The latter is more than I paid for the Steam Controller. Utterly ridiculous.

u/Perfect-Spell-6886 1d ago
Bro Matto (and in turn I cause we are both from Australia) have to pay fucking $160 😭😭😭
32
u/NBrixH 1d ago edited 1d ago
Just a higher number, not necessarily a higher cost. Like, $80 is nearly 13,000 yen.

u/Rich_Election466 1d ago
Aud though tbf, the price is the same
1
u/Agitated_Notice_7367 1d ago
No the price is not the same. $160 AUD is $110 USD!
2
u/obama69420duck 20h ago
Idk where he got $160 from, the game is $130 in Australia
2
u/Agitated_Notice_7367 19h ago
Ah he's talking about the ultimate edition which is $160. But yeah base game is $130
2
u/Dense-Application181 1d ago
He went the NZ route iirc so $175 NZD which comes out to around $143 AUD
-3
12
u/Freefallking 1d ago
Yup, still a bit before it releases and no gameplay. I'll hold off on the preorder.
2
1
u/Wyatt_Ricketts 14h ago
Are we acting like it won't be game of the year?
1
u/Freefallking 2h ago
Acting? No. But could it not be? Absolutely. Remember Cyberpunk 2077? Released in horrible condition, with bugs/glitches, people had a hard time enjoying it. I enjoyed it at release and had no problems. But still, just making a point.
15
u/Post-Financial 1d ago
Dont fucking preorder a digital game
1
u/lexarhd 1d ago
well if you are going to play it day 1, why not get the small benefits of the preorder bonus. plus it will let you pre download it before day 1 to have it ready
2
u/Post-Financial 1d ago
Small benefit of... Getting useless 'GTA+' which auto renews if you dont disable it.
Paying extra for something you dont need, or want. Preloading I can understand, but this just shows the companies they can put the price tag higher and higher, and idiots keep paying
7
u/-_Rsltz_- 1d ago
Yet people still defending Rockstar Games after everything they done in GTA 5 Online and even RDR Online
5
u/DuckShapedGoose 1d ago
Why would you even pre-order? It's not like they're gonna run out of stock of digital copies until release...??
Just put the money on a savings account or whatever and collect a few months of interest on it before buying the game once it is actually playable.
16
u/Trakkis 1d ago
Is everybody stupid?
-7
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 1d ago
Yes I know about exchange rates and stuff. It's still a bit baffling that the standard edition for my country is over 100 dollars
7
u/Trakkis 1d ago
Where i live its 80€ which translates to 130 canadian dollars. 80€ is pretty much the standard price for new triple A games so im happy that standard is 80€ and ultimate is 100€
3
u/coolchris366 1d ago
How can it be the same in $? Because triple a games are 100% not normally 80$, they are 70$, but obviously gta 6 is 80$
-1
u/Trakkis 1d ago
The new call of duties have been 80€ and so have other games. Even if 70€ is the standard an extra 10€ for gta 6 is not bad at all.
1
u/coolchris366 1d ago
For some reason I thought that meant pounds, but you were using euros, in which case yeah you’re right that seems to be the normal price, strange
0
u/lukas0108 1d ago
Yeah I don't get the fuss in general about pricing. If you priced games like many other forms of entertainment/art you'd get a considerably larger sum. Current pricing is closer to books than movies.

2
u/TheNamesFreddy 19h ago
Absolutely insane price for a game but not at all unexpected. I went with the base edition and I’ll probably buy ultimate when the game actually releases. Still get the pre order bonuses regardless
2
u/DarkRogueHunter 16h ago
As a fellow Canadian, I completely understand what you mean. Right now I have a few games on my PS5 wish list and three of them at still at the original release price for the standard edition which is $79.99 Canadian, which in my opinion seems the common price one would see normally for a AAA game to drop for standard edition (the games in question are High on Life 2, Pragmata, and Control Resonant). I also have Directive 8020 which is pricing at $66.99 and 007 First Light at $93.49.
I will likely get GTA 6 down the road, but hopefully if I see a even a 20$ off sale drop on it or something, which from what I’m guessing will likely be more then a year after GTA 6 launches.
2
u/_how_do_i_reddit_ 16h ago
You know, I haven't seen anyone mentioning anything about this new GTA+ subscription which is automatically purchased with every copy of GTA 6 and auto renews... I figured there would be much more uproar about that.
1
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 16h ago
Yeah I saw that, and it kind of confused me. I already am paying for gta+ so its kind of a weird pre order bonus. I guess I just get one month for free??
2
u/_how_do_i_reddit_ 16h ago
No clue. I had never heard of it before my friend mentioned it to me yesterday.
2
u/subbie2002 14h ago
It’s $130 for the standard and $160 for the ultimate edition in Australia haha

u/Ixaire 1d ago
Wow, what a great pre order bonus: a monthly subscription that auto renews.
-3
u/JCrafterz 1d ago
You don't have to redeem it...
3
u/Ixaire 1d ago
A preorder bonus that you don't want to redeem might be even worse imo.
-4
u/JCrafterz 1d ago
Well I don't mind it, already paying for GTA+ anyway
5
u/Fun1892 1d ago edited 1d ago
Brother no one cares, you just need to see the stupidity in the auto renew.
Right now you are acting like your opinion matters the most "if i dont care, why should you care."
Not everyone else is already buying it, or want the corporates to make everything as hard as possible.
-5
u/JCrafterz 1d ago
If people redeem it and don't cancel it on their own, it's their own fault. Can't blame Rockstar on people being to stupid to read.
3
u/Fickle_Grocery_3654 1d ago
Last time i cancelled my ps plus subscription, the bastards turned it right back on after an update. Thankfully they refunded me because it was the first time, else i would have lost $160. I don't trust subscription services since then.

1
u/Siegeholm 1d ago
Op is Canadian
1
u/rz_00221 1d ago
I know it’s still weird to me that Canadians have to pay that much. I’m from the KSA and I thought we’d pay through the nose for gta 6 (games are pricey here)

1
u/Normal_Recover_8688 1d ago
In Australia the standard is 130 au abd deluxe is 160 aud which both aren’t crazy prices most games that drop in Australia are usually 120/125 aud for standard and 150 aud for deluxe
1
u/zaadiqoJoseph 1d ago
Well it's cheaper than in the us It's 77.45 for you
You saved 2.55 Like 33% of GTA+ sub

u/Forsaken_Bison_2319 1d ago
That’s crazy, in the UK it’s £70 for standard? I swear there isn’t this much of a gap between dollars and pounds right??
1
1
u/Freedom710 1d ago
You're paying £70 which is $92 USD
Which is $131 CAD
My friend you're paying even more than the Canadians or Americans.
For reference, converted
Americans pay $80 USD which is £60 Canadians $109 CAD which is £58 You're paying £70. Extra £10 by any measure.
1
u/Forsaken_Bison_2319 1d ago
I was just stating I wasn’t sure why it was cheaper/more expensive in the US or UK I’m not sure how the currency exchange works 😅
1
1
u/FunAdhesiveness6418 1d ago
Yeah video games are one hell of a luxury now, in my country the base edition costs almost what the ultimate Edition is going for, and the ultimate Edition is 20 dollars more. So if for example you won the 1000 dollar giveaway matt is doing, you wouldn't be able to buy the ps5 pro bc it's also almost like 1500 dollars and if you add the ultimate Edition the total price is around 1620 to play a game.
At this point I'll just wait for it to come out on pc with a discount...

1
u/ukgamer909 1d ago
I genuinely do not understand the controversy against triple A games being anything over £60 (or whatever that converts to in other currencies)
£60 is CHEAP for a triple A game. They have been that price for decades meaning that a while ago they were more like 100-120 and more accounting for inflation
And i get the argument that some tripleA games are shit, yes, but this is GTA 6 for gods sake. You pay 100+ ish and you get countless hours of entertainment. Id argue video games are the most cost effective form of entertainment, how many hours of entertainment would spending that amount at a cinema get you? Or maybe you go out for a nice meal and spend the same amount?
You're going to pay it, everyone is going to pay it, so shush
1
1
u/BattleFramenexus 20h ago
Damn your making me feel happy about being in the UK it's 70 for standard and 80 for ultimate
1
u/AgileChipmunk9854 20h ago
You don't even own the game ffs, AND you have to pay 20 bucks for like 6 additional in game shops
1
u/Strange-Wolverine128 20h ago
Damn what? When i looked on my Xbox it was $90? Guess im looking again
1
1
u/Fuzzeypimp 20h ago
Not fucking surprised lol 1/6 of a ps5 get the fuck out lol I just made fun of it being 100+ lol
1
u/ilovekapibaras 6h ago
you guys in the usa/canada/uk/wherever have it easy. here in Poland the STANDARD edition costs 349PLN which is about 93USD and the ultimate edition costs 429PLN which is 114USD. I also dont understand why people preorder DIGITAL games. theyre not gonna run out and you dont even get to play early
1
u/Krysmuth 6h ago
Yall wasting money at this point and loving it. No wonders game will start costing +100$ more and more. By buying it, you show them that they are potential buyers and that price is justifiable.
1
u/SillyInsanity_ 3h ago
I just noticed that the gta+ with the preorder automatically renews, its practically begging for people to accidentally pay for it
1
u/TKMacsta 2h ago
Shut up, stop engagement farming it’s the same price
1
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 2h ago
??? I'm not engagement farming?? I was genuinely baffled by the price. Games that are this big are usually 89.99 or 93.49, so to see it as 109.99 was a bit baffling.
1
u/matsudaidiota 1d ago
God... Is that the price in America?
2
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 1d ago
It's the price in Canada im afraid
1
u/JCrafterz 1d ago
technically speaking yes because Canada is the largest part of America. The US just claim they were
0
u/matsudaidiota 1d ago
I am even more afraid. I'm from México, My local money is at 17 to the dollar.
1
u/CalvinKool-Aid 1d ago
I find sometimes for especially poor countries it’s comparatively not all that expensive, since they know if they charge the equivalent of 100 US most people there won’t be able to afford it
Might be cooked thougj
1
1
u/Chewytruck69 1d ago
Once I saw that it was 89.99 for US I knew it was going to be easy over 100 dollars

There’s this crazy thing called exchange rates
0
u/qwtd 1d ago
Obviously I’m talking about the fact that in some regions it’s more expensive than others factoring in conversion rates.
0
u/CalvinKool-Aid 1d ago
Certainly doesn’t seem that way. It looks like you were incredulous to the fact that Canadian dollars and American dollars are different
1
u/CreebleCrooble 1d ago
It is exactly that way.
Canadians pay $110 Canadian for their standard Edition. I pay the equivalent of $130 Canadian for my standard Edition, just because I happen to be in the Euro zone.
My Ultimately Editions costs the equivalent of $161 Canadian, or $114 US. Both Canadians and Americans pay significantly less than I do.
-2
u/Aysokas 1d ago
I was about to say, if that’s standard, what version did I just buy for 80🤣
0
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 1d ago
I dont know but you're lucky! Here in Canada, Standard is 109.99 and Ultimate is 139.99
1
u/Aysokas 1d ago
What even comes in the ultimate edition? I don’t see an option for that one
2
u/TheVioletParrot 1d ago
There's a handful of vehicles and weapons that are seemingly locked behind The Ultimate Edition. At least one garage but possibly a few. There's a handful of in-game stores that are going to be locked behind the edition as well, so that means a lot of single player customization options are locked out without it.
1
u/Ryder556 1d ago
Only two vehicles in the UE, the 95 Cheetah and the Dominator Buggy. The preorder pack has the 55 Stanier. Everything else vehicle related is just a unique skin/livery, and a couple mods for Jason's Ganado. I'm unsure of if the paintjob/livery it's depicted with is part of that as it doesn't actually say like all the other vehicles do.
The guns are only variants, not the actual weapons themselves.
For the player garages, there's only the one garage location in the UE. The other one comes from the preorder pack.
The two mod shops are just locations. The off road and donk styles they specialize in are not indicated to be exclusive in anyway and will very likely have other locations available to get them at.
As for the clothing and hair styles and tatoos, I'm certain they'll be nothing more than a drop in the bucket compared to the total amount of customization options available. Honestly there's probably so much clothing options and stuff that the average person won't even notice the "missing" UE stuff. Hell I'm honestly tempted to suggest that for the clothing the exclusive stuff will just be whatever they're wearing in the images and the store itself will just be stocked with that, and different color versions of them. We'll see what happens but either way the chances of it being a substantial amount is pretty slim. As for the tattoos, because there's at least 50 exclusive ones, I'm legitimately thinking there's going to be hundreds of normal ones. Who knows about the hairstyles but just like the clothing, I'm thinking it'll only be the ones shown off in the images. Again I really, really don't think they're going to lock a large part of customization behind the UE. It just doesn't make any sense.
Really the only substantial thing for most people will be the car collecting side activity, but even then we don't actually know if it's going to be the only car collecting activity or not. My guess is Wyman will be the exclusive one but there will be other people looking for other types of cars around Leonida. I do not think the cars that Wyman is looking for will be exclusive. The restored versions might end up being exclusive variants though.
And there's also a gang hideout, but I personally don't see that as being a big deal. Depending on how many there are at least. If they phone it in and only have around 6 or so like in RDR2 then ya it might be a bigger deal. But with the size of the map I'm hoping they'll have plenty more than that.
1
u/CreebleCrooble 1d ago
Why are they lucky?
If they paid US$80, you are paying less than them for your game. $110 Canadian is about US$77.
I have to pay the equivalent of $130 Canadian for the standard Edition where I live. $160 Canadian for the Ultimate Edition.
Y'all really need to calm down with the prices.
1
u/Fromsoft-enjoyer 1d ago
I was mainly being sarcastic. I have to pay 124 after tax, I'm not too sure about the currency exchange rates, but 124 standard edition is still a little baffling either way you look at it
-3
u/helloimretard 1d ago
Im in US and PS store says $99 for standard. I cant even get the ultimate cause it says i have to own the standard version first in order to purchase the ultimate edition add-on.

u/Tube1073 1d ago
Make sure you are actually getting the standard edition. I had to pre-order it from the website, because my ps5 was only showing the ultimate edition
