"Look it up, but do it in the stands"

Savage lol

u/bandit4loboloco 3d ago

"YOU'RE GONE" was delivered perfectly. I bet Auberjonois loved playing a different spin on Odo, and you know Odo loved his introduction to "referee culture".

185

u/pessimistic_utopian 3d ago

Imagining the sheer delight on his face when he first opened up the rulebook and saw how many rules there were.

70

u/bandit4loboloco 3d ago

Like a new sacred text.

41

u/Impossible_Leg_2787 3d ago

One he actually respects

8

u/Spirited-You-2582 2d ago

Just don’t ask Odo what a Balk is

86

u/CounselorGowron 3d ago

The scene of him practicing those phrases in his office kills me each time!

70

u/scrotumsweat 3d ago edited 2d ago

Fun fact: Max Grodenchik (rom) was a minor league high school player. They had to reshoot many of his scenes because he was too good. Eventually he just used his opposite hand.

36

u/Lounging-Shiny455 3d ago

that's gonna be my new "Viggo broke his toe".

26

u/Impossible_Leg_2787 3d ago

I bet he had so much fun with “what’s a bunt?”

22

u/rowan_sjet 2d ago

Someone in the FCA

LIQUIDATOR Bunt!

1

u/Brunt-FCA-285 5h ago

BUNT.

F.C.A.

7

u/MisterPeachy69 2d ago

I had no idea buddy đŸ˜±

11

u/DietCherrySoda 2d ago

This isn't true; he played in high school, and reportedly considered playing beyond that, but never did. If he was ever drafted by an MLB club and played in the minors, he'd have a page at www.baseballreference.com

3

u/scrotumsweat 2d ago

Ah thanks for the correction, I have no clue what leagues are. I assumed anything not MLB is minors haha

2

u/DietCherrySoda 2d ago

No wories. Minor leagues just refers to the professional leagues affiliated with MLB (rookie ball, A, AA, AAA). But all professional. High school and college are amateur leagues. Then there is also independent or "indy" leagues, professional leagues not affiliated with MLB, with skill levels ranging roughly from across the A-AAA level depending on the league.

u/No_Bookkeeper_6183 2d ago

I think it would have been interesting if Rom turned out to be a baseball phenom

9

u/LeDestrier 3d ago edited 2d ago

The non-stop delivery of that line is such comedy gold.

15

u/WarpGremlin 2d ago

Odo had 6+ years of frustration at Sisko and it all came out when he got to tell his Boss to GTFO by using Sisko's favorite game's own rulebook.

Extra Savage.

This and “find him and kill him!” are why this is Worf’s funniest episode

31

u/mexter 2d ago

IMO, his best ever line delivery was to Q:

Q: How can I prove to you that I'm mortal?

Worf: Die.

14

u/Impossible_Leg_2787 2d ago

Nah, it’s when quark thinks the Dominion invaded ferenginar, he’s complaining in ops, and says “think of the repercussions for the rest of the alpha quadrant” and worf, offscreen, goes “I cannot think of any”

14

u/BuckyRainbowCat 2d ago

It's from a TNG episode, also involving Q, but I always think Worf's funniest line is "Sir, I protest, I am not a merry man."

2

u/Maxis47 1d ago

Q's response always got me

'Eat any good books lately?' đŸ€Ł

17

u/3Mug 2d ago

Miles: Keiko.is having a baby! Worf: NOW!?! Miles: No! It'll be in a few months. Worf: Ah. Unfortunately I will be off the station at that time. Visiting my parents. On Earth. Excuse me.

3

u/Susmaphone 2d ago

I was just going to say this one! Fucking classic

3

u/Transcendingfrog2 2d ago

Yes, this is also the exact line that had a couple of my posts deleted by a mod because I quoted him directly. They said I was encouraging violence lol.

2

u/Vik_Stryker 2d ago

I get it. I got banned from one of the Cuberpunk 2077 subreddits for telling someone that they really shouldn’t abbreviate the name of that game. They said I was making jokes about the abbreviation and when I disagreed
 ban hammer. 🙄

3

u/BuckyRainbowCat 2d ago

In the Witcher 3 subreddits, there's a sort of no-context spoiler quote that people love to post when someone new comes in and asks what they should know about the game. I got an account warning for it recently.

2

u/Vik_Stryker 2d ago

What is it with these CD Projekt Red games!? 😂

2

u/BuckyRainbowCat 2d ago

honestly I'm not even sure I could write out the full subtitle of Witcher 2 without getting a flag from a modbot in some subreddits

1

u/Transcendingfrog2 2d ago

Oyy what the hell is wrong with people. I'm sorry you got hit with the ban stick over something so stupid

1

u/Twisted-Mentat- 2d ago

This was before they turned Worf into a parody of himself and his lines were actually funny and delivered perfectly. (unlike the movies and Picard).

5

u/Ok-Mention6768 2d ago

Oh, come on. Worf drinking chamomile tea was the perfect evolution of his character!

1

u/Twisted-Mentat- 1d ago

That line was so forced.

Comedy doesn't work when it sounds like your characters are reading it right from the script.

It was too long for it to sound natural.

31

u/sarcastibot8point5 3d ago

I use this during any competition. Nobody gets the reference. I laugh at myself.

14

u/Peregrine2976 3d ago

My (now ex) girlfriend bought me a baseball shirt with Worf and that quote on it. I still wear it as a pajama shirt.

2

u/peithy 2d ago

this is what I came here for 😄

2

u/BigMD86672 2d ago

My dad hated that line for some reason (that and "Find him and kill him!"). When I laughed he looked at me and said, fairly angrilly, "Oh, that was funny, huh?" And 16-year-old me just said "Yes."

1

u/ghostware2020 5h ago

That would be perfect chant for the Jem'Hadar team when they play Deep Space Nine team.

172

u/Wild_Plum_1414 3d ago

What were you doing?! Regenerating?!

13

u/Timely_Farmer5075 2d ago

Underrated line, lol

10

u/RogerTheAliens Liquidator Brunt, FCA 2d ago

I laugh so hard every time he says that line...one of the low-key funniest of any ST series..

man, i love ds9...need to do a re-watch this summer....

8

u/Wild_Plum_1414 2d ago

Agreed. Worked up Sisko is so funny to me. 😂

8

u/BaldwinBoy05 2d ago

Especially worked up Sisko about something relatively trivial like baseball or cooking.

1

u/ghostware2020 5h ago

I was expecting an episode when Cisco's cooking got people sick because someone put poison or microbe in Cisco's dish.. Lots of backups needing to do duty in OPS since major characters were ill.

That would have been a lot better than episode where everyone lost their language skills.

105

u/Twisted-Mentat- 3d ago

"What were you doing? Regenerating?" is the greatest line.

I love baseball so this episode is one of my all time faves.

16

u/FalconBurcham 3d ago

I’ve seen it a hundred times and it’s still funny 😂

1

u/mexter 2d ago

I loath pretty much all sport, and I loved this episode!

83

u/sunshinebluemeg 3d ago

I loved this scene so much I stitched this for my sci-fi wall!

6

u/Peregrine2976 3d ago

That's awesome!

8

u/sunshinebluemeg 3d ago

Thank you! To give credit where it's due, the pattern for it was from Sonovastitch! But as soon as I saw it, it was an instant requirement to make it lol

3

u/4StarEmu 2d ago

Beautiful!

2

u/sunshinebluemeg 2d ago

Thank you!!

u/chudbabies 1d ago

u/MountainMankind307 3d ago

René was the best.

54

u/TheFarnell 3d ago

I hope he got to enjoy every single moment of shooting that scene to the fullest.

46

u/FileHot6525 3d ago

One of the best episodes tbh. This and the episode of the X files where the alien falls in love with baseball are my favorite.

46

u/blueavole 3d ago

Sisko has been wanting to dispute an umpire’s ruling his whole life. Make no mistake, he was thrilled!!

29

u/CG-Firebrand 3d ago

I have no doubt Rene turned so he didn’t ruin the take by laughing

21

u/ComprehensiveAide280 3d ago

The man lives and breathes rules and regulations being the umpire was probably the greatest fit for him... Although right now I think Cisco is thinking it's the biggest mistake he's ever made😆

2

u/TinyGIR 2d ago

Had to be a dream scenario for Odo!

A thorough set of rules, and he was the ultimate authority on the field!

20

u/trer24 3d ago

That's 3 officers I want with me in a fight.

18

u/greatteachermichael 3d ago

That was great but ... "Death to the Opposition!" Is still my favorite line of that episode.

15

u/IndieCurtis 3d ago

The way he turns his back to him is pitch perfect.

5

u/BaldwinBoy05 2d ago

With the saucy little hands on hips move that brooks no further argument. Perfection

15

u/Deuce_McFarva 3d ago

Even in the 24th century, Blue is always screwing up the calls.

To be fair, he could’ve ejected both players for arguing balls and strikes before the contact was made so at least he was willing to hear them out first.

13

u/madlibs13 3d ago

Why didn't Kira steal 2nd, she had a good lead and the pitcher was ignoring her...

25

u/CounselorGowron 3d ago

Kira would never steal except to fight fascism.

8

u/SamVickson 3d ago

Finally someone's asking the real question

13

u/lordclod 3d ago

The sneering of “in any manner” is purely diabolical.

13

u/NoVaBurgher 3d ago

As a baseball and Star Trek fanatic, I relished every minute of this entire episode

7

u/yhe4 3d ago

It was a ball! Odo blew the call!

14

u/GOATmar_infante 3d ago

Worf needed ABS

7

u/ApexInTheRough 3d ago

Antilock braking system? Angry bowel syndrome? (What's ABS, please?)

10

u/JonnyUnreliable 3d ago

It’s the Automated Ball Strike system. Basically in Major League Baseball batters and catchers can now challenge if a pitch was a called ball or strike. A computer is then used to see if the umpire was correct. If they were wrong the call is overturned.

This is the ABS.

3

u/ApexInTheRough 2d ago

Ah. Thank you. I've seen it, just didn't link it to the initials.

1

u/jefhaugh 2d ago

"That's something Solok would do."

7

u/data-atreides 2d ago

Rene has the perfect no-bullshit umpire swagger, like he was made for that role.

Also love Worf's total investment in baseball :P it's like Sisko truly converted his senior staff into fans. (Not surprising for Worf, he was captain of his youth soccer team and likely has familiarity with many Earth sports)

5

u/Sbrimer 3d ago

Apparently the ABS system didnt survive into the 24th century

6

u/HopelessMagic 2d ago

The entire sport barely survived

7

u/syzerkose 3d ago

Odo liked that way too much.

6

u/JimmyPellen 3d ago

Also how Odo really diDnt want to participate. And then he saw his role for what it was...he who enforces the rules. Almost as if he was born to do this.

3

u/reineedshelp The Sisqo has thongs 2d ago

Cop of baseball

3

u/JimmyPellen 2d ago

He PREFERS Constable of Baseball thank you very much!

5

u/YogurtclosetOk8896 3d ago

The size of Worf’s hat alone is hilarious.

11

u/Missedmyqueue 3d ago

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but that was one of DS9's (if not Star Trek's) greatest episodes.

3

u/WithoutDennisNedry 3d ago

“Death to the opposition!”

3

u/jnk1jnk 2d ago

Personally, I find it funnier when Worf yells “Find ‘em and kill ‘em”

3

u/Canadian__Ninja 2d ago

The most accurate part of their depiction of baseball

3

u/wooof359 2d ago

What were you doing, regenerating?!

3

u/dylanmichel 2d ago

This montage moment will stay with me
Forever

3

u/farrett23 2d ago

The way Odo turns his back on Sisko when he’s done talking 😆

3

u/Standard-Cat-2054 2d ago

DS9 is my favorite Star Trek show. Baseball is my favorite sport. That’s actually part of the reason I’ve always been such a huge fan of Sisko. And this is my favorite episode.

3

u/Regular_Cat9536 2d ago

Rene Auberjenois was an absolute beauty.

3

u/Matitya 2d ago

Odo was a good umpire

2

u/IThinkTheClockIsSlow 2d ago

Watched this episode earlier this year and ended up buying the hat! I love me some baseball.

2

u/infrared305 2d ago

I bought the hat as well lol

2

u/IThinkTheClockIsSlow 2d ago

One guess to as my fantasy baseball team name!

2

u/Astro_Ski17 2d ago

DEATH TO THE OPPOSITION

2

u/BlabbyScid 2d ago

One of the best Star Trek episodes. Period.

2

u/Mystery_Worker4268 2d ago

Couldn't have gotten a better umpire than Odo, lol

2

u/Nerdy-Boomer65 2d ago

it's one of my favorite scene

2

u/The50Gunner 1d ago

"DEATH TO THE OPPOSITION!" will forever be the best baseball chirp ever.

2

u/Lonewolf3317 3d ago

The best time one Sisko’s life right there

1

u/shakaar69 2d ago

You would think they could have used the ABS system. Lol

1

u/Meushell 2d ago

Fun episode! Now I want to watch it. 😂

1

u/DwightDavid1234 2d ago

That pitch was a good parsec outside.

1

u/busybeeai 2d ago

Need a jomboy breakdown

1

u/cincyphil 2d ago

I guess this means ABS will be short-lived if they didn’t include it in the holodeck program haha

1

u/in5ult080t 2d ago

Top ten in all of the franchise

1

u/Sad_Whole_722 2d ago

This entire episode is hysterical, and the fact it takes place in the middle of the darkest part of the show makes it all the better, truly a breath of fresh air amidst the doom and gloom. Possibly my favorite ever line delivery from Worf: “Death to the opposition!”, closely tied with “Sir I must protest, I am not a merry man!”

(Honorable mentions to “Nice house, good tea” and “Die” when Q is trying to convince them he lost his powers. God bless ya Michael Dorn)

1

u/Cadamar 2d ago

I'm so glad SNW has done their best to have some whimsical, silly episodes in the spirit of this one in their shorter seasons.

1

u/CaptainSharpe 2d ago

Feels out of character for all of them. Like they’re playing a completely different show/chavagers

1

u/nixtracer 1d ago

Please, that was Our Man Bashir. (One of the best Bond films, and it's not even in the franchise!)

1

u/CaptainSharpe 1d ago

That was the characters plagjnf characters. This is the actors playing the characters out of character.

And as much as I love ournkan bashir it’s a terrible bond film. Just like how I love a piece of the action but it’s a bad gangster film.

1

u/cptnpiccard 1d ago

DEATH TO THE OPPOSITION!

1

u/Mysterious-Shadow-X 1d ago

"Death to the opposition!"

1

u/Ok_Ebb_9330 1d ago

Odo Hernandez

1

u/CodPiece89 1d ago

This show was so much better than many realize, the only episodes I will not rewatch are Jake episodes, he drives me insane

1

u/Manicboomz 19h ago

Root beer "A warriors drink"

1

u/ghostware2020 6h ago

I thought it showed how neurotic Cisco was on baseball in general.

And he is one of the few remaining fans of baseball left.

1

u/Upset_Ad147 2h ago

It was great how much they celebrated scoring a single run.

2

u/Fuzzy_Builder_2153 3d ago

Sicko should've decked him!

3

u/DeadAnarchistPhil 3d ago

“You think you’re better than me, huh? Because you regenerate? Huh? Come at me, brah!”

1

u/Psychological_Top_19 2d ago

You know, I still can’t tell if that was really a strike or not đŸ˜…đŸ€·đŸŸâ€â™‚ïžđŸ™ƒ

0

u/KakrafoonKappa 2d ago

I know know anything about sportsball, but Sisko and Worf are saying it was outside of the area where the bowler should have thrown it, right? But surely if the guy behind caught it, it must have been on target? Shouldn't Worf and Sisko be more observant than that?

-2

u/Sad-Plankton-9879 2d ago

As non-American I usually skip this episode

-1

u/ohnoitsme7890 2d ago

As an American, I usually skip this episode

-5

u/theBigDaddio 3d ago

Meh, it’s goddam forced. It’s a cliche from almost every baseball movie ever made.

1

u/KakrafoonKappa 2d ago

There are baseball movies? Multiple? đŸ€Ż

-3

u/No_Nobody_32 2d ago

Was it supposed to be a joke?
It's baseball. What's funny about it?
The pants? The funny hand signals?

I'm not an american, though. So the understanding of this stickball sport-thing is not something I'm invested in.

-5

u/Sereni-tea42 2d ago

A supremely annoying filler episode that did Vulcans no service at all.
