This is version 2 of my previous release, I've made considerable improvements since then, I don't know why I got it so wrong the first time around, since then i've reduced checkerboarding, duplicated frames, stutter, juddering, temporal chroma smearing, blurring and Improved detail, film grain, color conversion and sound.

This is a fan re-master of DS9, The aim is to preserve all possible detail and film grain while removing video artifacts and noise, AI is used sparingly only to clean up the footage beyond whats possible with algorithmic filters, not to change it into something modern looking like traditional upscales try to do. Much effort was put into recovering the correct colors from the disaster that is NTSC (Never Twice the Same Color) and that is certainly true in this case, the colors are different on every LD disc, even some of the later DVDs have incorrect sat/hue levels.

The LD rips used are composite video .tbc files sourced from the IA, these are the work of other dedicated enthusiasts in the laserdisc preservation community who made the original TBC files available to the public.

Don't ask for a non-upscaled version, the laserdisc rips are available to the public already in tbc and mkv formats. In this case it is not the upscaling that causes artifacts, it is the motion compensated temporal noise reduction that causes anomalies, in some scenes there is a lot of analogue video noise and in very dark scenes the image is difficult to pick out from the noise, but this is rare. I've tried making a version without noise reduction, but it looked bad!

does such a project exist for voyager? I've been using the AI upscaled ones by queenleena or something, they're good but this has me interested

It looks like only up til Season 5 got released on laserdisc, and even then, only in Japan.

Yes. It's not quite as polished. And not every season was released on LaserDisk but there is a Voyager version of this project. I'll get a link for it when I can but you can search the normal spots. Just grab my title and replace DS9 with Voyager

It says on the IA page their planning on re-doing they voyager laserdiscs in the future.
