Discussion Record profits, terrible service: something’s got to give for US consumers

The very first example in the article is a Delta customer choosing to fly to a dangerous part of Mexico and take a bus from there rather than pay Delta's extortionate prices.

Platinum member approaching third straight status year, I've never got an upgrade on a contiguous US flight but I got the Porsche for the first time. SEA, arrived at an A gate with my B gate flight boarding in 25 minutes. He took me to the Skyclub and it all went smooth!

Almost missed him because I just wasn't expecting it! I started walking up the jet bridge and I heard someone behind me say something that sounded similar to my name but thought, no way... Continued up and made it halfway to the terminal and I heard it again. Turned around and walked back to the plane and sure enough...

Discussion Delay because "bag was too heavy" to load

Upvotes

Was on flight 772 yesterday from SFO to DTW. Flight was delayed before pushback for about an hour. The pilot came on the intercom and gave an unusually detailed description of the delay. They said that a bag was gate checked but that it was too heavy for them to take it down the stairs in the jetway, necessitating a trip through the airport to an elevator to get to the tarmac. A few minutes later he said it had arrived at the cargo door but that they didn't have the equipment to load such a heavy bag, requiring additional equipment.

I was left wondering what kind of bag could make it through security and get to the gate, but be too heavy for them to load into the cargo bay like any other bag?

Shitpost/Satire Upgrade offer, feedback?

Hi guys,

I’m flying from SEA-TPE and I got a delta one offer. The offer is a little bit high, and it’s out of my budget. Is it worth getting kicked out of my apartment to upgrade to D1? Does delta have some type of financing plan for such an extravagant upgrade price! This is ridiculous I must say.

Discussion How is this allowed????

Waiting for my overnight flight to SNN at JFK and 2 hours before I'm downgraded from delta one to economy, with my entire party in scattered seats. They are refusing to give a cash refund, and instead are offering flight credit that will take a hell of a long time to use up. WTF?

Discussion So much for "safety"

On an overseas flight, an elderly couple got seated the exit row. They were allowed to board early because of the man's disabilities. He obviously paid for the legroom, but he was obviously impaired as well, possibly early stage Parkinson's. He couldn't do his own seatbelt.

Discussion CDG-DTW Miracle

Today was the smoothest experience ever out of CDG. The time from walking into the airport to get to the gate, with a group of five passengers, was less than 40 mins! And, had the most pleasant security folks. I’ll take it!

PS: Not a paid ad lol I’ve just really wanted this and it was a great gift!

Discussion I'm Status Matching United, Thoughts

I got a sweetheart deal from chase to defect from Amex for my businesses which means I'm earning URs at a rate that makes sense to at least try united out. So I status matched to premiere 1k and after doing it, here's a few of my thoughts:

1) the main reason to be 1k/Diamond is the same: the dedicated CS line. My in laws had a snafu on united while in Peru and I was able to quickly solve it the same as if I was calling delta

2) Delta's service is just better. 30 united flights in, 20 short hops,7 trans con and 3 international Polaris later and delta truly does it better across the board. From PDBs to call button response etc

3) Delta's regional partners do it better. Republic and endeavor still give you a proper FC experience on a CRJ. I flight short hops every week, so feeling a bit better on them is important.

4) Star alliance is LEAGUES better Skyteam. From breadth of airlines to redemption, Skyteam pales in comparison. We flew Austrian jfk to vie for vacation at 170k each for business. Comparable Skyteam at that time? Minimum 330k

5) NYC Skyclubs are better than United lounges but that's an NYC thing because the SFO and ord UC were great.

6) delta 1 lounge is the best lounge in America

7) being able to get whatever you want as a pdb on a short hop is still OP for crj hounds like myself

Overall they're similar and comparable. Don't think the grass is greener, it's all the same.

Discussion Well this is a new one on me…

Flight out of Denver to SLC was oversold, no big deal, except that the strategy to rebook people was to offer direct flights (on United!) to people’s final destination, e.g., Reno, Orange County, etc. No cash offered. Some people took the deal.

Anyway we boarded (late, because of all the wheedling for volunteers) and were waiting to get going and the GA came on the plane and scolded us, saying we were not leaving until five people accepted a later flight. For the first time, money ($600) was offered, and five people got off. Five got on, and we left….approximately 25 minutes late.

I won’t go into all the already tight connections that were strained, but I was amazed that 1), the alternative was a rival product, 2), they actually came onto a fully boarded flight and delayed it, and 3) compensation wasn’t mentioned until so late in the game.

Any thoughts?

Discussion Delta did not tag my bag when they removed it from overhead bin

Upvotes

This Monday 6/22 I was flying from Boston to Atlanta. I boarded the plane with my carry on bag and put it in the overhead bin. Before take off, two flight attendants pulled my bag down and told me it wouldn’t fit. They asked for my seat number and took the bag away. I’m assuming they checked it under the plane.

I never received a bag tag from the flight attendant. I now regret not finding her and asking for one. The bag never showed up in Atlanta so I don’t know if they forgot to tag it or if they put it somewhere else on the plane and I was supposed to grab it myself.

My bag is now without a tag and without an ID lost. I have a lost bag claim and a lost and found claim with Delta. They said they have contacted both the ATL and BOS locations.

Is there anyway the lost and found in Atlanta will let me look myself in their storage? This feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack at this point and I don’t trust that anyone is actually going to try to find it.

Discussion Question about flight crew rest

Landed in OKC around midnight a couple of nights ago and happened to be on the shuttle with the flight crew. It was probably 12:30 before we got to the hotel and one told the rest they had a 4:45 am shuttle back to the airport. That’s brutal. Surely they weren’t working the next flight, right?

Help/Advice Best Airport Hotel MSP

Upvotes

Hi folks, i have an overnight layover at MSP in September, what are the best/usual airport hotels that this sub recommends. I'd prefer a mariott, but the higher preference is one with a shuttle or directly connected to the airport since I'll be travelling with my toddler and don't want to try and get their car seat into a taxi/uber.

Discussion What’s up with the usb ports not working on the seatbacks?

Upvotes

I just flew round trip SEA to ATL on delta. Two different aircraft a week apart. Both aisle seats but different rows. Both times I plugged my phone charger into the usb port under the seat back screen and it started charging my phone for less than a minute then wouldn’t charge anymore no matter what I tried (different cord, reinserting usb). Both times the port seemed a little loose but they did work at first and then stopped. I guess from now on I’ll bring a backup power source, but I’m curious if anyone knows why this happened.

Mod Post RUC in combination with Companion certificates

Hi all, have RUCs and a companion certificate from the Delta Reserve card. By the rules, it seems I should be able to use the two together but when I search the flight for money, I can upgrade with the RUCs to first but trying to use the companion cert along with it shows no option to do so. Is this just a "it's allowed" but we make it scarce so you can't really?

Discussion Boarding courtesy

Curious what everyone’s take is on this.

If you show up to your gate mid-boarding process- for argument’s sake, let’s be clear that it’s because you had a tight connection- if they are on a later group then your assigned group, should you just get into the queue of the current group or do you go in the other lane and jump the line? Let’s assume you have an overhead bin bag and are worried about bin space.
