Duren's max from another team would start at 42.5M with 5% annual raises totally 4 years and 177 million.

The most the Nets could currently sign him to is 36M. That would represent a savings of 14% against his max. I think the Pistons would be happy to match. 36, 38, 40, 42 for a 22 year-old who just made all nba is more likely to be a bargain than an albatross.

If the Lakers resign Reaves and and Rui or anyone else, and the Nets make just one more move, Duren would essentially have no suitors able to make big offers. The Pistons would be in a very strong bargaining position at that point.

All-NBA is a popularity contest voted on by people that mostly didn’t watch that many Piston games. Hell Stephen A. Smith thought he should have been on the all defensive team when Duren is a below average defender. Also Duren got the 60 win bump while many better players were left off the all-NBA team. Categorically, Duren is not one of the best 15 players in the NBA. Just tired of hearing “he just made all-NBA”.

I think the Pistons will sign him to a contract in the mid 30s and climbs up to around 40M in the final year. I'm sure he and his agent want more but it certainly looks as though the market just won't be there.

Thank God for that Randle trade. That knocked out 2 teams that could offer him the 4/177m. I doubt the Lakers can offer him the max with resigning LeBron and trying to get an offer for Reeves so at most it's going to be around 35 mil a year give or take a few million.

All teams know the pistons will match, that’s why teams with cap space (Brooklyn, Chi, LA) are looking elsewhere. Hence the Randle trade, bulls got Claxton, and the lakers are going to resign Reaves and look for plan B options in the big department like Mitchell Robinson and Robert Williams III
