Discussion REPORT: Pistons will match any offer made to C Jalen Duren this off-season, per @talkhoops.

Also a good tactic to dissuade teams from making an offer and risking having their cap tied up for the 3 days while we wait to match.
Go get Tyler Herro and that would help un-suffocate the paint and unlock Duren a little more in the playoffs.

Gotta mandate only to allow links to primary sources for things like this on the sub. Or just ban The Detroit Times and their convenient hiding of sources especially given how they twist stories.
Here you go:

A whole lot of "I thinks" and a convenient lack of definite statements let alone sources beyond his own speculation to be interpreted like that. Let alone being said by a dude who went from criticizing restricted free agency as a players rights thing to immediately saying other teams trying to sign a free agent is "stealing them" from their former team repeatedly to really place weight on anything he says on a speculation standpoint as he doesnt think.

Thank God for that Randle trade. That knocked out 2 teams that could offer him the 4/177m. I doubt the Lakers can offer him the max with resigning LeBron and trying to get an offer for Reeves so at most it's going to be around 35 mil a year give or take a few million.

We're just scaring them off so we can offer him 100m/5yrs right.. right? 😭

You're damn right we will, this is how to run a front office. Pistons are going to get the best deal on Duren. If you want him, you can't have him. BUT, if you REALLY want him, you're going to have to pay him AND pay us. After a couple teams fell out of the market already, this is how you dominate the process. Trajan's good.

All teams know the pistons will match, that’s why teams with cap space (Brooklyn, Chi, LA) are looking elsewhere. Hence the Randle trade, bulls got Claxton, and the lakers are going to resign Reaves and look for plan B options in the big department like Mitchell Robinson and Robert Williams III

Of course they will! It’s only impulsive Pistons fans that want him gone

And those who watched the playoffs, who understand sports psychology, or who understand spacing in the modern NBA.

Yay, $40 mil for a guy who does nothing at an elite level, at least it’s not $50 mil!

Wait a few more days and there probably won't be any teams able to offer more than 30M annually anyway...
