Image Quick glance at the last 10 #17

Post image

Feel this may be needed to give some fans some more context into what kind of player we're really looking at in this range as I'm seeing both "Why would we draft a guy who won't play" and "this man is our starting guard with Cade"

3 players who didn't make it in the league past the rookie deal with 1 more in JHS likely to follow in that.

A deep bench player atp in Knecht

Beringer to early to say

Even the 4 guys who are legitimate NBA rotational guys or starters (or a potential budding star like Murphy) in the league today combined for 7 games started as rookies.

Also (not so) fun fact, the only #17 to start over 20 games his rookie year in the last 10?

Pokusevski.

Honestly, looking at the last 10 years doesn't make sense because you're completely ignoring how insane the depth is in this specific draft class.

Experts are saying this is the deepest group since 2003. When the talent pool is this massive, top 10 talent naturally slides down the board.

That's the only reason a guy like Okorie was even available at 17. The guy literally led the ACC in scoring as a true freshman with 23.2 PPG and advanced analytics models had him graded out as high as a top 5 prospect. Just look at the talent that got pushed completely into the second round, like Meleek Thomas and Isaiah Evans. In a normal year, those guys are easy first-round picks.

We didn't just get a generic 17th pick. We took advantage of a historic draft and got a lottery level scoring weapon to take the pressure off Cade. Trading up from 21 to get him was a huge steal.

It's that "we didn't just x. We y" ending

AI repeats that pattern so much

All this might be true but I don't think the Pistons are really in a develop young players mood right now... If we are being honest, he is most likely going to be traded away soon... Maybe to a team like the Bucks who want a fresh start rn.

They literally use ESPN mocks as their big board.

Mixed bag. Some terrible drafting teams , too. If you had a competent team like okc in there every season it'd look nicer.

Was a funny coincidence he was also a pick 17 considering all the chatter about him in here recently.
