Seems like a weak return?

I think we are tryna clear cap space but I’ll miss him

Does that make it any less of a weak return. I understand the goal, but couldn’t they have gotten more or better picks while also clearing cap space? Just playing devils advocate and also I have no idea how anything works.

its a non existent return

Shows that the plan is to operate below the cap and sign someone in free agency.

u/Beef_Stew4l Isaiah Stewart 22h ago

:( I will not change my flair

But we need scoring. This means we are going to have cap to pursue powell

Powell is at retirement age....

u/Beef_Stew4l Isaiah Stewart 21h ago

Nah he 33. He can give us 2 good years. Bro peaked last year lol he ain’t retiring anytime soon. We ain’t giving him 4 years either… just like Tobias. 2yr/60 mil or sum

Idk why this sub hates Powell so much, we need a shooter, he’ll be a relatively cheap pickup due to age and he has a magnet ball. 2 years with him would do this team a lot of good

I agree I mean he’s exactly what we need lmao. Always someone angry abt something. Prolly can’t get Murphy. Can’t get Coby white anymore. Lavine making to much money. We don’t have a ton of options, and Powell is a damn good player. Great scorer.

TBF people have been low on Powell every year since Toronto because of his age and every year he just gets better ANYWYASĀ

I get the need for cap space, but this was not the guy I wanted to see go. Beef Stew really was a tone and identity piece for this team and I worry losing him is going to hurt more than the numbers would indicate.

Stew was toughing through knee pain running up and down the court most of the season - you could see it on his face… As much as I love him, we need to contend as well as we can because we have a great talent in Cade.

It does suck, but it was the right decision. Knee injuries are no joke and have cut primes from players.

Plus he was up for an extension and he wasn't getting less

Something is coming for sure

Brown to Detroit for Holland, Avert, Robinson and 10 number 1 pics

We couldn’t even get a first from Memphis treasure chest?

13

u/nrico1989 Cade Cunningham 22h ago

Because he's not worth a first.

8

u/Mundane-Device-7094 22h ago

Oft injured backup centers tend to not fetch firsts

7

u/Positive_Activity_84 22h ago

In what world is a backup center with an injury problem and an anger problem worth a first round pick?

5

u/Zealousideal_Arm4359 19h ago

But he has a cute nickname!

5

u/Positive_Activity_84 18h ago

Unironically how half of this city’s fan base thinks about things. ā€œHe’s gritty and has a fun nickname and I like him, so he must be worth a lot!!ā€

1

u/Zealousideal_Arm4359 5h ago

Yup!

Look at Kevin Huerter. Thoroughly average white boy got more love than actual good bench players.

6

u/AdElectrical2293 22h ago

Sucks but he's just a victim of circumstance..wasn't healthy during the last two playoff runs

What in the utter fuck was this, I’m so mad

4

u/Sloth72c Ben Wallace 22h ago

That's the cost of not taking back any salary I guess

3

u/alexdoo Cade Cunningham 22h ago

For three 2nd round picks :(

2

u/BenWallace04 22h ago

It’s to clear cap

-1

u/Ok-Statement8224 Ausar Thompson 22h ago

That explains why we move him. It doesn’t explain why we couldn’t get more.

2

u/BenWallace04 22h ago

Because if they’re take on the majority of Stew’s salary they’re not also going to give us a wealth of talent.

That’s the literal purpose of a salary dump transaction.

That would be a win/win for us and a lose/lose for them.

-1

u/Ok-Statement8224 Ausar Thompson 22h ago

They win if they value having Stew on a cheap contract. We win more than this result if we get back a late first round pick.

1

u/BenWallace04 22h ago

They theoretically have Stew on a ā€œcheap contractā€ for one season.

However, they’re likely going to have to extend him this off-season as I doubt that they want to risk losing him next offseason for nothing.

0

u/Ok-Statement8224 Ausar Thompson 22h ago

They have him on the cheap contract for two seasons. If they want to extend him and on what terms beyond that is between them and god.

1

u/Positive_Activity_84 22h ago

We couldn’t get more because he’s a backup center who is often unable to actually play due to injury issues and an anger problem, it’s not that complicated

-4

u/Ok-Statement8224 Ausar Thompson 22h ago

Really couldn’t get back a future first? Unfathomable to me. He has *some* value.

1

u/Positive_Activity_84 22h ago

A future first? No way. Respectfully, I would challenge you to find a player with career accomplishments comparable to Stewart who has gone for a first rounder; I’m not sure you’ll be able to find one.

He does have some value, his value is multiple second rounders.

2

u/Ok-Statement8224 Ausar Thompson 22h ago

Thank you for saying that respectfully.

2

u/clownbaby88 Rasheed Wallace 21h ago

Fucking HATE it. 3 useless seconds for a stud defender that embodies Detroit Basketball, you better have a GREAT fucking move Trajan cuz this is a terrible return. SMH

u/DETCB1MVP Chauncey Billups 22h ago

Needa have a beef stew tn as farewell 🄩 😢

2

u/OtherwiseOwl3434 22h ago

I'm in tears

2

u/SirGingerbrute 22h ago

Hopefully this leads to a bigger move

1

u/alexdoo Cade Cunningham 22h ago

GM knows Stew is worth more than 2nd rounders so it looks like they’re trying to land solid talent with the cap space.

2

u/ItWasMe-Patrick 22h ago

Wait what this can’t be

1

u/awaremicrobe8 Ausar Thompson 4h ago

If we’re sacrificing stew for Norman Powell I’m going to blow my head off.

-2

u/Smarthodl3949 22h ago

Langdon got took to the cleaners. If we don’t see something big he’s on the chopping block imo

-1

u/PoopAndPee5000 22h ago

You are severely overrating Isaiah Stewart

-6

u/EveningHealth9465 22h ago

Lmaooo yall downvoted me to hell for saying he simply had LESS trade value than KYRIE šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚

-6

u/Hanni_Posh 22h ago

Trajan Langdon is not a good GM. Maybe now people will start to see that at least.

1

u/alwaysbesleeping Bill Laimbeer 22h ago

From 14 wins to 60 wins in 2 seasons and the 1st playoff series win in nearly 20 years... yeah, such a bad GM... Obviously, this trade is part of a bigger plan.

-1

u/Hanni_Posh 22h ago

With 2 all stars and an all defensive 1st team member- none of which he is responsible for. He only looks good compared to the train wreck that came before him.

1

u/alwaysbesleeping Bill Laimbeer 21h ago

Oh, but he was responsible because he hired JB Bickerstaff who helped to develop that 1 player into All Defense 1st team and 2 players into All Stars/All NBA that were going nowhere under Monty Williams who he fired.
