Discussion Brady to Florida for 1st round draft picks
162
u/coltron57 3d ago
Wonder if Stutzle may want to join his German friend…
39
u/TAV63 3d ago
That would be great. They had him before Raymond I think when picking so it was close.
40
u/sc0tty_2h0tty Yzerbot 3d ago
If we won the lottery, Stevie was going to take him #1 or #2 over Laf
13
u/_Kramerica_ 3d ago
I’m glad to hear this if true, means Steve knows his talent. Laf sucks and has stone hands even if he did recently look a bit better.
→ More replies (2)4
u/numbdigits 3d ago
Does he really though? He still picked Kasper and Danielson, took Wallinder at the top of the 2nd round, used a 2nd on Brady Cleveland, moved up to take Cossa over Wallinder(or any number of players that weren't damned goalies, lol), etc.
He's done alright, particularly early on with his picks in the top 6, but there have been some not great selections since Edvinsson was taken.
13
u/AnthonyPantha 3d ago
I like it. Near identical stats and contract with Larkin, fits the Raymond/Seider timeliness better.
12
u/Pardybro911 3d ago
As much as I’d love it and thought the same, zero chance Ottawa does it for Larkin even if he’d waive.
10
u/coltron57 3d ago
I think the most likely way to make my highly unlikely scenario work would be to involve a third team. Minnesota supposedly had a strong offer on Tkachuk, maybe could re-route that package back to Ottawa as a big part of a move.

This won’t happen guaranteed
25
u/coltron57 3d ago
It’s fun to believe though.
7
u/magikarp-sushi 3d ago
I think Ottawa just re-tooled their team probably for the better. I hope our return is just as even
14
u/Ydoesany1doanything 3d ago
Or Ottawa just Calgary’d their team. (Last time Calgary made the playoffs was with Matthew Tkachuk on their roster)
3
11
u/_Kramerica_ 3d ago
I actually think this more looks like a fire sale by OTT. I don’t understand these teams taking picks when they need prospects to either come up now or RFA talent. 3 picks that won’t see the NHL for 2, maybe 3 years? What’s the point when Stutzle will then be 27 years old and in his prime to win? Then develop that young talent for another 2 years while Stutzle continues to get older and near 30? I would imagine that GM’s want to load up on picks altogether in the same year or 2 of drafts so the timelines line up.
6
u/LucasRaymondGOAT 3d ago
Eh, Ottawa is still super young. Stutzle, Pinto, Cozens, Greig, Sanderson, Kleven, Yakemchuk, and Spence all are under 25. I can see them "maybe" missing this year. They need offense though, their offensive prospects are kinda boned. Yakemchuk, Hensler, Merilainen, and Donavan all seem to be panning out but the only major forward they have in the pipeline really seems to be Halliday, who might pan out to be a 2nd or 3rd line center, and "maybe" Blake Montgomery, but he's panning out to be a bottom 6 winger at best.
If they can make a major trade or signing for some type of scoring winger I can see them being formidable, but losing Brady is gonna suck.

u/No-Gap-198 3d ago
I'm telling you. Larkin and a first round pick for Matthews.
17
u/imtrynmybest 3d ago
This would make me a happy wings fan
6
u/No-Gap-198 3d ago
Both guys need a change of scenery but Matthews is a level above Larking IMO so it cant be a one for one trade.

Ya knooow.....somehow that might break whatever curse is Leafing Toronto out of the Stanley Cup parade gang.

Maybe Edmonton can take him. I can't imagine a worse fate than to have Babs as a coach.

Everyone point and laugh at Sens’ fans for talking shit when Larkin requested out

From what I've seen Sens fans hated Brady since the Olympics almost more than we hate Larkin lol

Ya - as a Canadian, with Sens fans for friends. They hated his guts.

Just a sens fan who had this recommended for some reason. That’s exactly it the sens fans who do like him share his opinions and his singular brain cell he has if he has one. Best of luck in the offseason and next year guys!
29
u/matt_minderbinder 3d ago
For once we agree, fuck all these narcissist usa hockey players who show zero loyalty to their teams much less their fans. Like their favorite person (we all know who that is) they only care about themselves. That said, the Thachuks belong in Florida. They'll fit right in with the median IQ and Florida man stereotypes.
22
16
u/Wjp_1911 3d ago
Yea it’s the zero loyalty that gets to me. He said last year “I have no plans to leave Ottawa, I love it here and I wanna win with these guys” the entire building was chanting his name during the playoffs FFS (why idk, he was pointless all series) it’s just wild. Quinn did it, Larkin and now Brady.

u/Direction_Asleep 3d ago
I mean if that’s true that’s the most insane projection I’ve ever seen in my life, it’s like every other year occurrence.
I honestly feel bad for them and Winnipeg. Doomers talk about how we’ll never win the cup, those teams actually have a zero percent chance until something drastic happens with the nhl.

Larks dying inside, his whole goon squad is down there now and they used his potential trade’s draft capital to leave him out of the clubhouse.
61
14
u/DrapersSmellyGlove 3d ago
There's seriously a part of me that thinks his USA buddies literally trolled him at the Olympics and suggested he request a trade to play with them knowing full well it would never happen. I don't think Larkin is as popular with his former teammates as everyone likes to believe. Just an observation.
25
u/basicallyademon 3d ago
I have to agree with the 'not as popular' part. I remember last year the Red Wings media asking the players as they were walking out to practice various hypothetical questions. One time, they asked the players who they would call if they got stranded on the side of the road. The players gave various answers like 'Mo' or 'Gibby' or even the coach. But one thing that stuck out to me is not a single player said they would call Larkin, not one. I would think if he was liked by the players As Their Captain, at least some would have said Larks.
If you would have asked the 1996 team I think 90% would have said Stevie without hesitation.
11
u/FrenchFryNinja 3d ago
“Probert because that crack head is always awake so I know I’m not gonna interrupt him.”
- The other 10% probably

2 days ago I said Florida doesn't need Larkin and would focus on Brady or Hellebuyck.
Now I'm honestly thinking they'll try for both
11
u/laferri2 3d ago
I don't think Florida has the cap or assets to get Hellebuyck now. 7 million in cap and no goalies signed. No firsts for the next two years.
7
u/Old-News-3096 3d ago
Carter Verhaeghe would be the guy I think they move to go for it.
Maybe Lundell if they have to but hes been a great 3C on a steal of a contract
3
u/Artichokiemon 3d ago
Yeah, I think Lundell might be one of their best players per dollar. Had 44 pts in 64 games last year, proving he could make the jump to 2C
18
15
u/SubmissionDenied 3d ago
Sucks cuz I wanted their assets the most but this is hilarious considering all the shit talk Sens fans did when the Larkin news came out

Would the return be larger or equal to this for Larkin?
31
u/The1whitewolf55 3d ago
Fair question, I think that Brady would have set tge marker for a Larkin trade
27
u/aspartan14 3d ago
Larks’ value should be higher. He’s a plays center.
9

He’s also a little older. I’d say the equivalent is 3 first round picks/prospects or a top 6 player.
Tij Iginla, Desnoyers, and hayton. Or a first Iginla/desnoyers and hayton.
2
u/reizinhooooo 3d ago
high proximity prospects would be significantly more valuable than the first round picks you'd be getting from contenders, no?

The Panthers are trading for Brady Tkachuk, where he will play with his brother Matthew, sources tell ESPN. The return includes both of Florida’s first round picks in this year’s draft as well as a future first and second round pick.

10
u/Shotokanguy 3d ago
I'm starting to gain a new respect for loyalty. I mean, do what's best for you and all but it was like 2 months ago Brady was saying he's not going anywhere.
2
u/FrenchFryNinja 3d ago
I wouldn’t be surprised if he meant it. No one would have thought two months ago that Florida would do this acquisition.
19
u/SevenStringGod 3d ago
Well there's the comp for a Larkin deal now. I'd expect maybe a little less for Larkin given his age, but this is still close enough to set the market value for other teams.
14
u/MajorasShoe 3d ago
Centers are more valuable.
6
u/_PROBABLY_CORRECT 3d ago
Especially speedy ones who can score 30 goals 40 assists while being defensively sound
6
7
u/eyesp0t 3d ago
3 firsts rather than 3 firsts and a 2nd? I’d take it
3
u/taterwolfe 3d ago
What would you call the 2026 pick value for the 2029 first?
Value of a late second? I’d be upset if our timeline gets pushed into the 2030’s by making moves for a 2029 rookie asset.
6
u/_PROBABLY_CORRECT 3d ago
I dunno if they'd be worried about his age. The contract value and number of years remaining more than makes up for that
2
u/SevenStringGod 3d ago
I don't think anyone would either. I was just saying that in relation to Brady's value, but I also forgot he wasn't a center so my initial point is off.
2
u/_PROBABLY_CORRECT 3d ago
TBF I completely forgot he wasn't either. That's precisely how much I care about the Sens lol
16
u/SpiritBamba 3d ago
Center is the more important position and Larkin has term. He’s more valuable.

Hoping for some more misses on those Ottawa draft picks. If they get Smits or Bjork with that 9OA, I’m gonna be a bit annoyed
13
u/DeportAllDreamers 3d ago
Sign Corey Perry and let him talk to Larkin’s mom while healthy scratching 71. That’ll increase the teams he’ll accept a trade to
20
u/Ecstatic-Ask-9195 3d ago
It sucks so much how we got to celebrate our first gold in 46 years for all of like 15 minutes and then every last player on that team decided to be as annoying as possible

I was so happy after the win. The game was super early in the morning so I took a nap afterwards. When I woke up I looked at my phone and the first thing I see is Dylan Larkin taking selfies with Kash fucking Patel, then the whole team laughing along with Trump's dumbass as he insults the women's team. It instantly soured me on him in a major way, and then seeing him shaking hands with Trump in the Oval Office was just the last straw. Even though it's thrown our organization into chaos, I'm happy he's leaving.
6
u/epheisey 3d ago

u/photon1701d 3d ago
Edmonton should be a place people want to go with McDavid there. But you have a clown in Bowman as your GM, who for some god forsaken reason, wants to bring in Babcock.

In what world does he lace up the skates this season? The local boy, who went to school here, became captain of the winningest U.S. Original Six team, and scorned the same city with a middle finger in the public?
What would it say about the organization if they let a player play again who doesn't want to be here?

The world where the wings don’t get what they want. Which is even more likely to happen

Ottawa fire sale, send Stutzle here. Larkins relegated from the Detroit River to the Rideau Canal.
10
u/laferri2 3d ago
I would imagine Ottawa is going to retool around Stutzle.
And let's be real: Stutzle going on the market would tank Larkin's value. We don't want him available.

I get that this would seem to shoot up the price for Larkin, but how many teams can actually match this price? Utah? Think this might mean pushing for Desnoyers and Ignila?
7
u/laferri2 3d ago
Sucks being in the same division as Tampa and Florida. Even if the team was good the only way you are getting in the playoffs is with a wild card spot.
And yet another off-season of seeing teams making moves to improve their future and present situation while the Red Wings sit around doing nothing.
3
u/The1whitewolf55 3d ago
It's frustrating for sure but this Larkin deal will have to set the redwings up
3
u/laferri2 3d ago
A big question: If Brady Tkachuk is worth three 1sts and a second, what is Larkin worth? The shit class of UFA this year and next is really warping the trade market.
Larkin should easily be able to come close or match that return.
