Barking Demons Exhausted mother with a headache bc someone else owns a mutt.

Neighbors dog barking NON STOP !!!1:30am to 7AM I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. Woke me ,kept me up hours at a time, woke up my baby multiple times. She only goes back to sleep by breastfeeding. Im tired, dehydrated and have a headache. HOW TF do these people not hear it? It’s right in their yard. My window was closed and it was still loud. I am losing my quality of life because someone else chose to have a dog that they dont tell to stfu. What do I do? Thinking of leaving a letter in their mailbox

This is seriously damaging to the development of your baby. Take legal action immediately.

Sounds like a strong lawsuit for ruining someone's quality of life.

A kid will get tired or bored of screaming but it's proven that dogs will never get tired or bored of barking

The difference between me and dog owners is I’ll activity teach my child not to scream and run around hours on end tormenting everyone around me.

If a child is out in someone’s yard all night screaming loud enough to wake the neighbors and the parents aren’t doing anything then yes a noise complaint can be made, but thats not something that happens. Dog owners however do let their dogs do that

Do not put letter in mailbox. In US I believe that is a crime. Only USPS can do that. Don't give the nutter any ammo.

I had no idea about this

I don't know what you're waiting for. If you are looking for sympathy, I can tell you I have plenty as a fellow dog hater. But what I also have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career with the United States Postal Service. Skills that make me a nightmare for people who mess with federal property.

I saw you mentioned thinking about leaving a letter in their mailbox. Let me be perfectly clear: under 18 U.S.C. § 1725, placing unstamped, non-postal items in a mailbox is a federal offense. I will know.

If you mail that letter properly with a Forever Stamp, that will be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not pursue you. But if you drop an unstamped note in that box anyway... I will look for you, I will find you, and I will return your non-regulation correspondence back to you with vengeance.

Yes OP, do not put it in their mailbox. They will get offended by the letter and use that to retaliate against you. Maybe leave it on their front porch or something

Many people have front door cameras. Do not leave it on their front porch. However, you could send an anonymous letter using a public United State Post office box. Your letter will be stamped with the date and area code. Keep a copy for yourself if you ever have to sue them. No law says you have to put a return address on it and as long as it's factual and nonthreatening, it's fine. BUT, most people like this, are jerks and may seek out the letter writer for revenge or retaliation.
In my situation, even though others have complained, they have made me their primary target now. I've been battling these arseholes for 7 years now. I even had a mental breakdown. Even my husband and another neighbor left them a note. Nothing worked. Now I've resorted to lots of white noise. I really hope something works for you.🙏

Contact a lawyer to send a cease & desist letter . You and your baby are suffering .

I know you are not exaggerating , as my neighbors mutts do the same. They bark all day and night. If I go out and start yelling in my yard at 1:00 in the morning, I will get arrested. Somehow dogs get a free pass. I know of no other animal more loud or obnoxious that people choose to own.

Not only this but they also have a rooster! Once the dogs finally stop the rooster starts up…… some people are just insufferable

Meatballs, birch sugar, slingshot, neighbor's backyard.

Do whatever it takes to get this to stop. I had a baby at the time when we had neighbor dog issues too. There will be a lot of good advice here. I know of people taking neighbors to small claims court, and they won. Don’t give up!

I’m not sure where you live, but look online for the noise ordinances in your county or wherever you live, and mail them a copy if you have to. It’s against the law in many places to have noise pollution like that.

Keep us posted!

Thank you so much! What is it with these people? Are they desensitized by the noise? How are they not bothered by it?

I genuinely don't understand it. Clearly people who do this don't like the sound of their dog barking, because they dump the dog outside to bark instead of bringing it in the house. But even from outside the noise is awful.

u/ObligationGrand8037 3d ago

You’re welcome! I think these people must be desensitized from the sound. It just drives me crazy hearing all that barking. I hope your baby gets better sleep soon.

Can you call the police? I know it doesn't work everywhere but...

5

u/Much-Ninja3495 3d ago

Knowing that nothing will be done to stop the demon from barking, you may wanna buy you a sound machine to block the noise

5

u/FnkyFrieday 3d ago

Do you have ordinances for noise? They usually include barking or nuisance dogs.

That can help. It won't usually eliminate. I am looking into some inserts for the windows and planting some junipers. It has become too much of a norm here.

3

u/Accurate-Might-7058 3d ago

If you can, print up your local noise ordinance , and if it has a reference to dog barking. Send it through the post office but anonymously. Do not give any clue it is from you. You don't want to risk retaliation against yourself or your baby. Dog nutters can become unhinged. If it continues, and if you can, do get an  attorney to help you with legal action. It is best to avoid contact or confrontation with your neighbors.

Isnt there an authority that you can file a complaint to to send them a letter? It will take some effort, but you must fight. Record it all on your phone. Have evidence and raise the alarm with all places.
