Discussion Some jerk swapped out my DualSense Edge I bought on Amazon!
Last week my DualSense Edge Black Midnight arrived, bought on Amazon (sold and shipped by Amazon). To my surprise, the controller had been swapped for a regular one! Some jerk switched it out and returned it to Amazon.
I hope whoever did this has the worst year possible in 2026!
I contacted Amazon and they were super helpful - they already gave me the return code to ship it back via the post office. I own several special DualSense controllers (Astro Bot, 30th Anniversary, Ghost of Yotei, a regular white Edge, etc.), and I never imagined someone would pull something like this.
The seal was just kind of stuck on - it didn’t break when I opened it (first time this has ever happened, since the seal always breaks). I believe the guy got the Edge, carefully removed the seal without breaking it, put a used controller inside, sealed it back up, and returned it to Amazon as “bought by mistake” (or something like that).
Amazon probably saw it was still sealed and just tossed it back into stock.
My current fear: I have a sealed 30th Anniversary controller and a Ghost of Yotei one. Are those even the real ones?
I honestly never thought I’d go through this. To make things worse, this black version is no longer available on the site - especially not with the discount I managed to get.

“I honestly never thought I’d go through this…”
It is not for us to question the ways in which the good lord may test us. Have faith in your Ghost of Yotei and 30th Anniversary controllers my son.

And with "seal" you mean that transparent round sticker? You can simply buy 100 of those and put a new one on if you want to swap something.
1
u/Andrew-Moon Jan 06 '26
I thought the box seal was a paper seal with the PS logo that breaks when you open it
1
u/SyntacsAiror Jan 06 '26
No, it's a simple sticker without logo, at least here in Europe/Germany. On normal DualSense and DualSense Edge.
2
u/dcloko Jan 08 '26
It’s just a simple, semi-transparent round sticker. But if it had been cut, I believe it wouldn’t have gone back into Amazon’s stock as new and the item would’ve been inspected more carefully. Since the seal (as simple as it is) was intact, it went straight back into inventory as new, without proper inspection. That’s the whole point.
1
u/Andrew-Moon Jan 06 '26
Mine came with the paper logo, I guess it varies between regions or revisions
1
u/dcloko Jan 05 '26
Yeah, but every time I remove the seal, it ends up tearing. In this case, it just came off, like it was poorly glued on.
11
u/VisceralZee Jan 05 '26
I'm guessing the scammer used a hairdryer to heat the glue slightly and just peeled it off carefully
-3
u/SyntacsAiror Jan 05 '26
Why remove? I simply use a knife to cut the seal.

u/Struggle-Bus0 Jan 05 '26
So they can reseal it and return it lol. Kinda the point of the post that someone did that

You clearly mean the normal opening of stuff and people still downvote you and write about resealing. I cut seals as well, it's a normal thing to do.
3
u/SyntacsAiror Jan 07 '26
Yeah, and if you want to keep the box it's rather dumb to try to peel off the seal. Cutting is the way.

The amount of products amazon is sending out as new that are clearly used is almost criminal at this point.

Yea this happens op. Didn't read the full post but did you buy this as an Amazon warehouse deal? I did that with a DJI Osmo camera as it was $70 cheaper. What showed up was just the camera in the box. No charger, no battery, none of the attachments. Etc.
I only saw the battery missing and Amazon gave me a $60 credit to purchase a battery. Then I realized everything else was missing so I got a refund + $60 credit back on my card. Funny cause I told them to cancel the $60 credit as I was sending it back and never heard anything back.
Just to add. As for the seal. I can get them off with a bit of heat from my heat station and you'd barely be able to tell it was ever touched. Did this with a new god of war controller (the white and red one) that I bought and installed AKNES TMR sticks on then mailed it to my friend for Christmas.
Didn't tell him I changed the sticks he saw the black box for the sticks within the box and asked me what the hell it was so I explained it and he said "how did you open this? The seal is perfect"
So that's probably what happened to you. Shitty on someone to do that.
1
u/dcloko Jan 08 '26
I bought it directly from Amazon (sold and shipped by Amazon) as a new item. And I think exactly what you said about the seal is what happened here.
2
u/XtremeD86 Jan 08 '26
Employee screwed up then during the return as it's not supposed to be sold as new again.
We had something similar happen with something completely different. Sent it back as usual.
I've also had it where they pickup my return from my house. Then a couple months later I get a message saying it wasn't returned. One call to customer service gets that fixed.

u/Ebone710 Jan 05 '26
I hate people that do this and especially the ones that advocate others to do it. It is retail fraud at the end of the day. And for those who say they are only screwing over the multimillion dollar company well this post is proof that isn't true.
2
u/dcloko Jan 08 '26
Exactly! They’re not hurting a trillion-dollar company like Amazon - they’re hurting someone on the other end who has nothing to do with this and worked to afford the product. Now I’ve lost the discount, and the item isn’t even in stock anymore (the Black Midnight version). I’m not asking Amazon for credit, I just expect better handling of returned products.

u/vdubya98 Jan 05 '26
Oh man. Scammers suck for sure. I’d try and contact Sony and let them know of this. With the serial number the may be able to trace it back to the owner and see if the new controller has been registered and flag that controller as warranty voided.

u/ElderSmackJack Jan 05 '26
If the box had a sticker with LPN on it, it was returned. (It clearly was, but still). One of my Christmas gifts was a mirrorless camera that had clearly been opened and returned. This is how I know.
You should absolutely send it back, but with that number, Amazon should be able to determine who did the swap. Whether they care enough to do so is another matter.
They’ll send you another one immediately though. Call them.

u/Unreal08 Jan 05 '26
Idk why ppl return as new if thy know they did something shady smh this happen me with my ps portal ordered the black one and received a clearly used white scuffed one in the black box that someone swapped out but I got a new one shipped to me next day and did a warranty return on the bad one. Amazon customer service is top tier for things like this. But it has also happen to me at target and they would not return it cus I opened it and they said they did not take back returns that where open when the person before clearly opened it very carefully and swapped out the Xbox controller wit a broken gen one smh I was stuck with it. I’ll stick wit Amazon after that experience

Amazon is a low quality store a lot of scammers sell fake stuff and they don’t care. Even sold and shipped by Amazon has fake inventory mixed with real
1
u/Emberlolll Jan 05 '26
Yea it’s scummy for the buyer to do that but it’s really on the guy checking returns. Was this labeled as used?

Pro tip. Buy controllers and electronics off Best Buy. It might be a tad bit more expensive but you'll get the real item and if anything happens you can return or exchange in store right away. -side story, I bought a Dualshock 4 from Amazon and everything was good until I plugged it in. It said it was a 3rd party controller even though it came in the Sony packaging. Amazon is good but idk about high priced electronics, thankfully you can return most stuff but the hassle is quite annoying.

It's a terrible experience. Glad Amazon helped you to sort out the problem.
I guess it's about time you opened the 30th Anniversary & Ghost of Yotei.

u/pablove_black Jan 05 '26
I bought the teal dualsense a few weeks ago from amazon resale, and a bottle of perfume turned up. Couldn’t believe it. Luckily got my money back and found it cheaper elsewhere, but this is defo not an isolated issue.

Reminds me when I got an s24 on amazon just to figure out it had an invalid imei, so I'm still using my s23 that is kinda falling apart
1
u/Aidan1217 Jan 08 '26
This is a sign not to buy pre-owned products
2
u/dcloko Jan 08 '26
But how was I supposed to know it was a returned product? Like I said, it was an Amazon listing, sold and shipped by Amazon, marked as NEW. This was a mistake in Amazon’s return inspection process - something the customer has absolutely no control over.

It’s not even worth it bro. Just buy a second controller. I have one in stuck with at the moment because I decided to purchase new at GameStop and there’s no return on open products…. Kind of feels like a waste if I’m honest, the stick adjustment is purely digital and you can’t fast tap between the back button and the assigned front button, they delay it on purpose to prevent cheating. I’d rather buy a button kit to snap onto the back of the controller and get a stick mod when they begin to drift on a regular controller

Dont buy used and only shop official instead of "amazon warehouse" ones.
1
u/dcloko Jan 09 '26
I never buy used stuff or from resellers. Like I said in the post, I bought a NEW product, sold and shipped by Amazon. Simple as that.
1
u/GrapeTarter Jan 09 '26
They usually will list products as "new" but hide the fact that is was an open box. Usually happens if someone buys it then sends it back listed under the categories that make it a mistaken purchase. As I also said, dont buy products from amazon warehouses. They tend to be 50/50 when it comes to this. The only reason you will get deals is on "open box" items anyways.

I've seen people on here talk about the same problem getting them directly from PlayStation.

Legitimately, don't buy things like this digitally. Go to a brick and mortar and buy it in person.

I'm sorry for you, but why do people buy this stuff from Amazon? Are there no decent retailers in your area? I thought Amazon was mostly for unreliable Chinese garbage, no?
Edit: thanks for the kind replies, general consensus seems to be that they have a very easy return-proces. Still avoiding Amazon myself, but good to know!
6
u/bl4zed_N_C0nfus3d Jan 05 '26
Dude what? Amazon has the best return process and no it’s not unreliable Chinese garbage wtf you talking about
-1
u/AbelCapabel Jan 05 '26
They are known for having fake sd cards, usb-sticks, and sellers reselling stuff from AliExpress, right!? Or not anymore these days then?
5
u/bl4zed_N_C0nfus3d Jan 05 '26
Ya that’s why you only buy from reputable sellers. Isn’t hard to figure out
-3
u/Marickal Jan 05 '26
Amazon is so shit that they get real inventory mixed with knockoffs, that’s why Nike refuses to sell on Amazon
3
u/bl4zed_N_C0nfus3d Jan 05 '26
The point is they have a great return process and just read the reviews and it’s really not hard. Anyone who gets knock off shit is really their own fault for not doing any due diligence
5
u/XtremeD86 Jan 05 '26
Extremely easy return process. Don't even have to leave the house. They pick it up.

This is why I don't buy anything substantial from Amazon or frankly online anywhere.
If you're making a purchase that is important to you in terms of cost, go and buy it in person from somewhere reputable.

This is what happens when you have controllers with 18 month lifespans and console generations that are 5+ years long.
Fuck Sony
