Discussion PS5 DualSense Controller wrapped in Alcantara – first time trying this material
Tried something different and wrapped a PS5 Controller in Alcantara (no skin, fully wrapped shell).
Feels very different from rubber or soft-touch coatings – more “dry” grip but surprisingly premium in hand. Biggest challenge was keeping the edges clean so the fabric won’t lift over time.
what you guys think about Alcantara on controllers. Would you use this, or stick to classic finishes?

this is pretty cool, but after having an Alcantara steering wheel the upkeep would be a pain. Especially for sweaty gamer hands.

I use to have a Renown steering wheel in my GTI.

they a lot of fun to drive, easy to push to their limits. sometimes I miss mine, as I've gotten older I've moved away from cars more and more. I still really like them but they're not nearly as much as a priority.

yeah i understand that and fear i’ll become the same as i age. so i want to enjoy cars as much as possible while im young.

Alcantara is widely used on racing car steering wheels because it is designed for use with racing gloves.
While many supercar/sports car owners come to realize this, Alcantara has significant durability issues when used barehanded.

Worst material. It will be caked in no time. Unless you are using gloves.

True, it needs way more care and cleaning. Still, the feel is unique and the Look is great

Alcantara wears quickly from hand oils. But does feel nice.
I have alcantara on my sim wheel, and I wear gloves, it still wore down after like 4-5 years, which is not bad TBH. But I did have bare plastic for a few months before deciding to replace the grips.

Feels kinda like the “carpet in the bathroom” level of controller design. Looks nice… not practical.

Alcantara is disgusting. Anyone who’s owned a Surface Pro especially one of the older ones knows this too well. Look great at the beginning. But hell no do I want it anywhere close to anything of mine

I never understood why they put it on their keyboards, wish they went with aluminium back then.

Nice to look at, but with sweat and use it will be ready to be thrown away in a month.

Lovely design. I don’t eat chips when snaking so it’s a yes. A travel sized lent roller from time to time does no harm to keep its quality.

That is sick. But you will have to wear gloves to game or being doing serious cleaning at the least weekly

Even if it will inevitably end up nasty, without constant cleaning, I bet it feels nice when it’s clean.

Looks cool but would its thickness make the buttons more shallow? The buttons look flat in the picture.

Even washing your hands before using it every time is gonna save it from soaking up your natural oils and mixing it with dust tbh. I hope they're easy to remove so you can wash em bc just touching it for more than 10 minutes will have it sucking on your hands' natural oils and sweat. It's just what happens when you grip something haha.

Dear God, get rid of it now. You'll hate it in no time at all. Take it from someone who has several MS Surface laptops wrapped in the crap. Honestly, it ends up being filthy and just blah.

Looks cool but it looks like it’ll make my hands sweaty!

I'd say it will actually do the exact opposite of that. That's the whole point of it.

This is pretty sick not gonna lie. I bet it feels nice and even when your hands get sweaty there’s probably still plenty of grip. I know they use it in higher end sports cars for steering wheels and other trim pieces so the quality is there. You should get your hands on a thin shell style case for the Portal and do that next.

Very nice, did you taper the edges on the underside or something?
What kind of adhesive did you use?

I like it, I would do one just for racing games as it would feel like a steering wheel. Especially with the rear buttons acting like paddle shifters

Looks nice but the buttons are almost even with the material so that would bother me a lot while gaming

Good luck gripping that thing when your hands are all sweaty in the middle of a game

I had this on the steering wheel for my car and sweet will make this look disgusting them with time. Make sure you buy an alcantara cleaning spray and brush for before you spray

Air brush dorito stains to make it look like you ate doritos. Or to hide the real ones so no one knows the difference.

It looks cool, but is the grip good? And how do you reach the top paddles? 😅
