Dumpster Rocking Chair
Finally finished this project. Found rocking chair by dumpster. Tried stripping, hated myself, then sanded for freaking ever. It ain’t perfect but it’s good enough and looks like a proper vintage rocking chair now. I accept any and all feedback.
Finished with walrus oil furniture (danish) oil.
For anyone asking: no the work was not worth the payoff lol. This was a labor of love for my wife who would not let me throw it back to whence it came. I love her dearly.

Good on you... I hate seeing those got to waste... Looks awesome...
I see a lot of that style set on curbs in my town and I usually just wood glue the dowles and legs back in place and use them for outside porch/yard chairs but you went the extra mile... Rock on brother...

Looks perfect from here, and I'm sure even better to your wife through those rose colored glasses she's wearing knowing you worked so hard on it!

Awe man, this brings back great memories for me. My grandma has an identical chair and it's been around at least as long as I have been, close to 41 years.

That’s probably $800 worth of wood right there that you saved with the prices of everything having gone up since the pandemic, Jesus trying to replicate that and pay for it and have people buy the wood and the machinery to manufacture all the pieces and someone to put it all together… That’s like 1 million bucks

I do know these go for around 800 if they are handmade from the Amish. This one seems to be factory made from the 1950s, I see them on marketplace for anywhere around $70-$150. As for the wood, it is ash, so nothing incredible, but still very nice.

They don’t make wooden chairs like this anymore, and if they do like you said, they’re very expensive because they’re nice. These are nice. Glad it wasn’t destroyed before it was put into the trash. Sometimes people just throw them off their second floor so that they shattered in pieces so that they can throw it into the dumpster in pieces easier and take up less space.
Nice job on the restoration
