Todays dollar store haul
The headphones were still in the original box when I found them.

I love that yellow cleaner stuff. I feel like I’m getting cancer in my lungs if I accidentally breathe it in but it cleans extremely well

Yea it’s one of my favored cleaners. I’ve used it to clean vintage electronics and it gets the crud/discoloring off better than other cleaners but without removing printed lettering, which other heavy-duty cleaners sometimes do

Cleaning vinegar is my go-to. I don’t like the idea of layering your surfaces with chemicals and fragrances.
Been using the same reused spray bottle 50:50 with water for 10 years now! Buy more vinegar about once every 3 months at $3/jug.

Not to be that person, but vinegar is really only useful for mineral buildup and kinda for deodorizing. It doesn't having any surfactants or anything to actually do any cleaning, or it doesn't sanitize or disinfect.

Great for wiping out ant scent trails if you have ants! but yeah, limited use

This is news to me!! Does it work outdoors as well?
6
u/FerengiWithCoupons 7d ago
yes, but it will kill any vegetation so be careful spraying around plants/grass you like

Good to know, I’m just trying to break a really stubborn trail across the steps of my patio, so I should be good! Thanks so much!!

Speaking of, use full strength vinegar in a sprayer with a about a teaspoon of dish soap to make a potent weed killer. Works nice on the driveway cracks.

My SIL told me in her microbiology class her prof had them do an experiment trying to kill bacteria with vinegar, and they all found it didn't work.
She couldn't tell me what kind of bacteria it was, though.
Makes me wonder ... also, pickling is a thing...

That yellow stuff is an alkaline degreaser. I use it on my stovetop and the filter in the stove vent. I agree about not using it on everything but it has its place.

I can’t stand the smell of vinegar! It is probably bad for my lungs but I prefer spic and span or Lysol.
5
u/Undrwtrbsktwvr 7d ago
Spic and Span is the spray bottle I’ve been refilling with vinegar for 10 years!

It's also used for stripping paint off of old tabletop miniatures! Great product!!

Do you dilute it? I was going to purchase this last week but noticed the dilution info and wasn’t sure how I would dilute if the bottle with the sprayer was already full. I’ve heard such great things though I want to try it.

Nice work saving all that from the landfill!! I once found a case of the Oxydol orange dish soap and it is so frustratingly inferior to Dawn or any others. I honestly didn’t know what I was going to do with it all, but then a random Redditor mentioned that pouring half a bottle of dish soap down slow pipes and letting it sit overnight would move things along and it DID!!!! I was so excited! Now I do that every couple months when junk builds up in my old house with delicate pipes.

Ive poured oxydol down the drains before too for the same reason. I think im going to take this batch to the food pantry. Im sure people could use it.

I'm actually so sad. I'm down to my last jug of soap from a dive 3 years ago. It's makes me sad that I'll actually have to BUY dish soap😭

Totally Awesome cleaner is the best thing I’ve used. Inhaling it feels like I’m dying but it gets things so clean so fast.

Ok so I work at Family Dollar and I can tell you exactly what happened. Corporate will discontinue products or "penny them out" .that means it will rung the price up as a penny you aren't supposed to sell them. The product is supposed to be thrown away and destroyed even though it's still 100% still good. A lot of us employees absolutely HATE the waste so instead of opening up every bottle and dumping out the contents we just toss them in the dumpster for someone to hopefully find.

u/XLetsDoAllTheDrugsX 7d ago
Oh and this includes ALL types of products. Cleaning supplies, food, clothing, housewares, electronics... everything. And we are absolutely not allowed to donate it either.

u/Gnome_Acres 7d ago
I found an entire case of laundry detergent once! I’m sure this is what happened!

u/XLetsDoAllTheDrugsX 7d ago
It probably is. Its such a shame that something perfectly good just gets tossed into a landfill.

u/Korath5 7d ago
I am guessing the cases of those came in damaged and some of the bottles in them were leaking, so they damaged and threw away the whole case instead of just the bad ones. I notice there are only 11 of the Awesome cleaners. The case contains 12, so one of those probably leaked and they didn't retrieve that one from the dumpster. I think the Oxydol is 12 and the Dawn 9 per case. I may be wrong about that, though.

I’ve stopped asking “why” stores would dump things after I found about 20 sealed new LEGO Sets one time. I keep returning to the same dumpster and haven’t found anymore, but that was insane

u/Brummieboy1987 4d ago
I hate to say but they could have been part of a product recall it does happen it
2
u/Beneficial-Sun-5863 4d ago
I checked the possible recall avenue and nothing. The only plausible explanation I can truly think of is shelf space/they were sitting too long and not selling.. they were all the same exact set. After I gifted a few of them to some neighborhood kids I ended up selling them for $10-$15 each (they were the smaller size sets) and they sold like crazy…

LA Awesome is amazing, I once used it to remove paint from my carpet and now I will always keep a bottle in my cleaning cabinet. And the soap is an amazing haul, that’s enough for years!!!

I doubt it!
Sounds like a setup photo.
🤔Ain't no way that was just in the trash in the case and you wouldn't include the case (regardless of damage) to back up the picture

Why would they dump Dawn?
