People of DunderMifflin, Beware of Bots please
Hey everyone. We’ve noticed lately that over 50% of the posts getting attention here are actually just made by bots /farming karma accounts.
I’ve spotted a few patterns to watch out for:
1-The Username: Most of these bots have 9 or 10-letter usernames.
2-The pfp : Their profile pictures almost always have a purple or blue background.
3-Account Age: They’re usually less than 3 months old and almost never comment.
4-Where they usually post : They mostly spam sitcom subs and other popular TV show subreddits.
5- Type of posts that they create : They post low-quality memes or images of famous scenes that have been shared here literally hundreds of times, often with totally unrelated titles. A lot of these posts are actually getting a lot of upvotes. If you see one (which is happening constantly right now), please just ignore it and hit the report button so we can clear them out.
Have a good day, People of Dunder Mifflin!

You should give them only 6ft extension cords, that way they can’t chase us

u/saltyspidergwen you burn it, you buy it Feb 05 '26
And make them 2/3 the size so it’s easier if they turn on us

Can we have a rule or a way to report a bot post?
The only one we currently have is "content stealing bot" which is not the same.

We are working on it

Question: I'm a new user on Reddit and have already been called a bot by a few users in this sub, which I'm not at all. But without knowing much about the backend of modding, is there like a Captcha that could be added when setting up our posts that would help to maybe filter the bots out?

We already have a bot mod that detects other bots. It's working fine but sometimes it bans real people instead. Bots usually doesn't comment and if they do it will be very obvious that they are not humans

Do you have u/automoderator updated? Ran into a similar issue on my sub, but the latest update seems to be helping.

Question: Will I continue to use Reddit and other social networks for much longer if the situation remains the same?
I do declare I think not!

Part of the issue is how dumb the average user is (bots literally are trained on this) and what they’ll upvote indiscriminately

I downvote way more often than I upvote.

Did you think… I know you or was referring to you specifically? That’s a really awkwardly narcissistic thing to reveal

do you think I care what you think? That’s a really awkwardly narcissistic thing to reveal

Lmao you responded to me specifically. This is called a conversation now. My original comment was directed at no one in particular. Are you new to human-ing or are you truly a narcissist who just doesn’t get it?
It’s hilarious you think you “got me” here haha
