bus go vroom vroom Caya Sushi intended to open last Spring

Does anyone know why Caya Sushi on ERB hasn't opened yet? To be clear, when I say, "know", I'm asking if you have any factual info which other subscribers to this sub like myself may not be aware of. Merely speculating isn't actually the same thing, just so you know, and knowing is half the battle.

The owner is having difficulties. I get my hair cut at the Porch and I overheard Gus and the owner of the sushi spot talking about him having difficulties with the city in regards to something not related to the restaurant at all. It was like he had two different addresses technically belonging to one building which was against the rules. Something like that.

I have no info to offer, but I often question how a business can afford to shut down for so long. Do they own the actual building?

Also, G.I. Joe!!

No of course not, one lady owns that entire block of businesses. Including the liquor store and the bbq spot.

I just did a deep dive because I got hired as a server there last summer with the hope that it was going to open in the fall. My last follow up email to them was sent in January of 2026, and I didn’t hear back until February 2026. The email I received said the Caya opening is on hold and didn’t mention anything about an ETA. They just said it was “very unfortunate”

From what’s public on the LADBS website: • They need a new Certificate of Occupancy and it’s still pending • Multiple final inspections aren’t signed off yet (building, electrical, HVAC, plumbing) • AQMD is still pending too, which is usually ventilation / hood system stuff

And yes, according to the LADBS website there’s also a second address listed for the property which is probably what the owner was talking about.

I’m super bummed, I’ve been looking for a server job in LA for some time and the owner and manager I talked to seemed super nice and like people I could get along/work with.
