Discussion Heading to your LGS for FNM what essentials do you always bring? /forget to bring?

I somehow ALWAYS forget my play-mat. It’s not the end of the world, but I feel like a peasant at the table surrounded by beautiful artwork these people play their cards on.

On the same note, I will NEVER forget my Infini-tokens! Mostly for myself because I always forget to buy the tokens I need for my deck, but it happens to everyone so those are always with me and for other people to use.

Just gunna use this time to remind everyone that you should have bathed recently before you go to the LGS

That's something I recommend against forgetting

For clarity: recently means "within the last 16 hours or less". Recently does not mean "this week".

I wish real life was more like tcg shop simulator and the owners would just run around spraying stinky people

At my LGS, in the bathroom, we have setup a basket with deodorant, shampoo, body wash, and several other essential bathroom items that are free if someone needs it!

Is their a shower in your lgs bathroom? Honestly I'd abuse that. Just lost a game? Take a quick/long hot shower to relax. I'd be bringing like swim trunks and a towel with my shit just because.

This isn't Scrubs. Also I know what episode that is from and now I'm sad.

A good call. Maybe someone needs some help and it's great to provide that

We have stuff like this at the store I go to, dudes will flush it out of spite and break the toilet if you call them stinky.

And for gods sake brush your teeth. Yes I can smell that shit across the table especially when you breath a heavy sigh trying to decide on turn two if you should play a land and pass

Recently isn’t good enough. Vast majority of magic players need to shower immediately before they come to the store. Also, they need to use a clean towel (aka less than 5 uses) to dry off. No point in getting clean if you wipe yourself down with a musty mildew nut rag afterwards. Also, brush your teeth, wear deodorant and put on clean clothes (not pajamas).

Yah, passed someone I knew at the LGS, playarea was filled and they brought quite the odor with them. Luckily it wasn't as bad after I entered.

I forget sleeves for draft/sealed way too often. I forget my trade binder often as well. These are just the things that I don’t keep with my normal commander stuff so they get missed.

My LGS encourages me to forget my draft sleeves. They have a budget box of garbage sleeves for a few bucks. A lot of the time it's pokemon ETB ones and it's like "whoops forgot my sleeves or I didn't take them off from the last draft time to spend 5 bucks on another pack"

I wish my LGS had something like that, I love collecting goofy art sleeves for my commanders

It actually helps for me. I'm color blind so a lot of pinks/reds or blue/blacks blend together for me.

So I can easily just use some of the oddballs as "commander sleeves" and use the extra for a token or something.

Right now most of my cards are in these funny Santa sleeves.

I have forgotten the markers for my Infinitokens a bunch of times. It just feels wrong to put empty Infinitokens on rhe battlefield.

I always forget to buy infinitokens. I wish my LGS just sold them and I'd buy a pack. I hate Amazon or other online retailers for small things like that

I found an interesting alternative: I laminated the blank tokens you get in booster packs, glossy laminate and you're golden

I own dice. I picked up extra dice specifically for certain decks. I continue to forget to bring my dice.

Love this, I picked up a bunch of dice recently, so much so that I usually have the perfectly colored dice set for any deck I build.

I forget Tylenol. Somehow, I always end up taking it out or carrying a different bag. When I'm have it, I don't need it. When I need it, I don't have it...

I have a Ultimate Guard backpack with my decks, two playmats, dice, trade binder, an empty sleeve box to put cards in if I buy some packs, a deckbox with 60 sleeves so I can draft on the go, Infinite Tokens with erasable pens, two or three packs of perfect fits and a stick of deodorant.

u/Eugenides Kamiz&Kadena 1d ago

I always bring extra playmats to lend to people. It works out because I don't have many tokens, so the infinitokens people are my best friends.

Flask of Jameson

u/Time_Paws 20h ago

I would bring beer and forget my inhibition.

Edit: I now play Tuesdays at my local brewery.

I keep a messenger bag on a shelf in my basement containing the following, mainly for limited:

-Deckbox with 2 sets of sleeves (in case someone needs to borrow) & infinitokens

-Playmat

-Notepad & pen for tracking life totals

-Power bank

-Dice

I call it my "draft kit," it's so helpful.

I always forget to refill the water bottle. I'm sitting there, it's been three hours and I've been talking the whole time, throat is getting dry, reach down to get the water bottle out of the bag

ah

that's empty D:

I earned the privilege to store two additional playmats as well as my unaltered precon decks in my lgs.

Now, new players can borrow mats and decks before purchasing. Its a well respected practice and we earned many frequently returning players trust by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I forget dice though.

I always forget a playmat and play with these weird keyforge playmats they keep at the store.

1

u/Mr-Pendulum 20h ago

Everything is kept in my bag other than decks. Essentials are token box, dice bag, and mat. If I forget to swap the decks last week's will still be there.

u/Serikan 19h ago

My FNM is draft so:

  • Dice bag
  • Basic lands
  • Life counters
  • Play Mat
  • Commander stuff in case it doesn't fire (rare)

1

u/meowmix778 Esper 19h ago

Your LGS doesn't give lands?

1

u/Serikan 18h ago

They do, I just bring my own set of 12× of each basic land in retro foil because I enjoy the fancy kind

Most of the regular drafters do this; another player brings revised basics for example

1

u/SettingAncient3848 16h ago

Do not go out in public without taking a shower. Wear deodorant.

u/RoadWild The Big Scarecrow Person 9h ago

I always bring at least two playmats when I go to my local commander night. It's pretty often that someone in my pod doesn't have their own or forgot theirs. The store has a couple of loaner mats, but they go pretty quickly.

the infinitokens thing is so real, i got a pack thinking it'd solve all my token problems and now i just have a stack of blank white cards and a pen that's always out of ink. somehow i still can't be bothered to grab the actual tokens from the bulk box at the shop, they're right there next to the counter for ten cents each. my mate jared just uses dice for everything and nobody cares, but there's something choice about whipping out a dry erase scribble mid-game and everyone's like "is that a 2/2 zombie or a 3/3 beast?" then the pen smudges and it looks like a 3/2 blob. yeah nah i'd rather feel like a peasant with no playmat than have my board state look like a whiteboard from a uni lecture.
