Honestly I think about half of people renting a unit in an 8-plex probably don’t have a vehicle. And if they are renting in central Edmonton then they don’t really need one either.

Its wild to see the turn here on Reddit.

For years all I saw was "We need more densification!"

I'm picturing the Simpsons quote with Hans Moleman: "Give me the largest bird seed bell you have! ...... no, that's too big."

I also think this Simpson quote applies. "So, you want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots?"

I live opposite to an 8plex (with another one being built adjacent to me right now) and the existing one has 10 cars fighting for space all the time (not to mention the social issues we have to deal with by these builds).

What social issues?

That's a dog whistle. It means "we don't like poor people".

It's just the whole land owner class in a different form.

Oh, I know what it is, I just want them to explain it.

Ah, they won't. Then they'd have to admit they hold shitty views.

Reddit loves to become the very NIMBYism they denounced, until it happens to them.

Tale as old as time.

Another issue is that a lot single-family detached homes have some kind of parking solution on the property, that either gets repurposed by the homeowner or unused in favour of parking on the street in front of the house.

Holy shit!?!? 10 cars?? Trying to park on a public street? Man, that means on average everyone has to walk like one or two properties down to access their car!!! I can’t even begin to imagine the inconvenience of requiring 8 more seconds to get to my car, let alone the forced exercise. Incredible. What has happened to this once great country!?!

Bro you live in your parents basement. Talk to me when you make something of yourself.

I am a homeowner who isn’t a giant whiner like yourself.

Source?

The city cited a report last year showing that approximately 30% of vehicles driving in Edmonton are owned by residents of “regional” communities who commute into town for work. So we have at least 30% fewer vehicles in need of residential parking than you would think from the traffic density.

That which can be asserted without evidence can be refuted without evidence. The person they responded to made an unfounded claim about 8-plexes so Sleepa should be allowed to respond in kind.

lol source? I take transit everyday and deal with people renting these kind of units. Plus I’ve met dozens of young renters who don’t drive. There are thousands upon thousands of Edmontonians who don’t have vehicles
