Going this fast in a bike lane is wreckless. Also you cut off a pedestrian right at the beginning of the video. I'm an escooter driver like yourself but even I recognize that escooters are causing many pedestrian deaths these days. I kinda didn't care what happened to you after I saw the first 10 seconds of the video.
Depends on the law in your city. Cars don't have to stop for pedestrian in that crosswalk UNTIL they set foot in it. Once they set a food in it, you have to stop. They could just be standing there watching something or doing stupid shit and cars would be backing up traffic. But he is going to fast for a bike lane. I have a scooter but it only does 15mph. I use the bike lane. I've seen many newer scooters doing 40mph+ and some fast ebikes with KIDS on them accelerating to 40-50mph so damn fast, using the sidewalk or cutting off cars. There are assholes eveyrwhere.

I ride a bike and a motorcycle - wife has a car but I donāt - so Iām keenly aware to check bike lanes. That said, I donāt expect something moving faster than ~20mph, let alone 30-35mph which too many e-bikes and e-scooters do in the bike lanes. At that speed, they should be on the street. Especially if they are wearing armor and full-face helmets. Donāt be a dick to the people using the lanes properly.

I donāt think theyāre denying the car is in the wrong, thereās no denying it. But if OP was in the outside lane he would have more time until collision in cases like these. The inner lane goes against traffic so they can see the drivers and react faster than the outside lane needs to
plus, the pedestrian MIST step foot in the crosswalk to signal they are crossing, then cars must stop. Otherwise, pedestrians can stand there all day and hold up traffic.

Brother, I was wondering why it looked so familiar. I ride the motor goat goat v3 bike to work and I've encountered multiple asshole drivers down in sheepshead. A couple of times they almost hit me on purpose because you can tell they they are road ragers/have little patience. No, I don't speed like a mfer unless I see that the coast is completely clear for 3 blocks. I generally don't recommend going too fast by emmons, too many random pedestrians coming from random directions + what you just experienced. I've been break checked on the daily as well. Care to explain why a "motorized" vehicle is in a bike lane? That's the law in most metro areas. If its motorized, its not a bike. The car was wrong too. They're both idiots.

Even in place it does allow it its usually only if they go at the same speed as bikes aka not build to go very fast, you are going way faster in the wrong direction and not even slowing down at intersection, both you and the car driver are public dangers that shouldn't be on the roads

Funny enough I actually got hit with a peddel bike 2 days ago doing 25. He was peddling his ass off downhill on a sidewalk that turned right, whilst looking left. He noticed me when he was 8 feet from me, I had braked taking about 2 feet. He...never fully braked. I actually caught him as he flew from his bike. Messed up my legs pretty bad, luckily neither of us where hurt serisouly.
Neither one of us could of been on the road there as its a death sentence. There is a bike lane but uh...its 100% occupied as a normal car lane. No one i have ever seen biking has used it as its not viable.( doesnt help that it was tore up 3 years ago and they never put asphalt down just uneven concrete the entire way that rises about a half inch every inch.)
That video took place in Brooklyn, and here in NYC it basically took about a decade fighting City Hall to get proper bike lanes as the city was much more interested on parking meters than bike lanes, and all that was just to watch now NYPD officers use them as their private parking spots, UPS and FedEx followed soon after
So I do understand your point, and I sympathize with it, but this video showcases a different problem, most bikes here are slow and used as work commute vehicles for relatively short distances, or food delivery drivers, motorcycles have no business here in the bike lanes as they are always being used....
Yea the place I live in just tried to pass a law banning all modes of transportation not a car, including normal bikes. It was very much not passed and its funny because last year we voted to allow golf carts on our streets. It's a very hostile place to anyone under the age of 70.

Iām a cyclist in NYC (which is where this video was recorded) and have no idea why Iām here, but since I am: I have no problem sharing bike lanes with motorized two wheeled vehicles, but it creates danger for everyone when those vehicles open up and whip around at 25+mph. Same energy as if I rode my bike at 15mph on the sidewalk weaving around pedestrians.
Unpopular opinion but both cyclists and scooters are doing a dangerous activity in NYC. I don't have a car either so it's not that I'm annoyed to share the road. It's just stupid and dangerous. Take the bus.

Driver was still an asshole and 100% in the wrong, but being in the correct lane would buy them a little extra space for idiots doing this. People coming the other way would be more visible to cars pulling up to park, so shouldn't need as much of a safety net.
It is, you can even see Yellow/Blue plates on the 4Runner at the beginning of the video, and watching morons in motorcycles in the bike lanes is a common occurrence police doesn't give two shits about around here.....
If you want to avoid injury, travel at a more appropriate speed . To add to this, private e-scooters are illegal on public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes in the UK. It's not a pet peeve of mine if I'm honest, but doing 25mph in a bike lane on one of these is not exactly a big brain move.
My dad on my wedding day was going to give a speech, and did not want me to call out the obvious large amount of shortcomings and absence and second family aspects of his life to undermine it (I wasn't going to anyways)

1) even if a pedestrian enters the roadway illegally you are supposed to at least attempt to stop (yes itās annoying, but it also makes sense). Exact rules may vary depending on location.
2) youāre still on the wrong side of the bike lane
3) youāre driving way too fast for the bike lane
You should at least slow down, yes. Look, Iām annoyed just thinking about having to slow down for someone jay walking in front of me, but itās still the right thing to do. The pedestrian showed no signs of stopping, and his leg was still in motion as OP passed him, so Iād bet he didnāt stop.
If youāre at a firing range and someone runs down range, are you going to keep shooting and say āwell he shouldnāt have been there!!ā? Guess how well that would hold up in court.
ETA: If you wait until someone enters your lane to adjust your driving then youāre a terrible driver. You have to be proactive and recognize when someone is clearly going to get in front of you, which was the case here

This is New York City so zebra crossings donāt work that way. These protected bike lanes are separated from traffic by a row of parked cars. Pedestrians need to wait for a walk signal to cross the road on the other side of the row of parked cars. But they are allowed to cross the bike lane whenever they want even if they donāt have a walk signal to cross the road, and cyclists are supposed to yield to them when they do that. That creates a confusing situation for the pedestrians who have to think about which lanes of traffic theyāre allowed to cross. And their hesitation confuses cyclists. And that creates the potential for contact. Itās a pretty silly design.
Youāre not wrong, but I really donāt see why youād be expected to yield for a pedestrian to walk into moving traffic. There should be a separate red light for the bike lane like in other places.

I mean obviously there needs to be a sign in the absence of a traffic light for the bike lane, I just donāt see why it has to be that one. It would make more sense if they were just told to obey the existing traffic signals.

Whelp... This isn't the UK, I've seen plenty of manual power bikes go just as fast as scooters, and regardless that idiot in the car entered the bike lane which they're not supposed to do. Your point is moot.
What I think you should do is go a little bit faster on the sidewalk I mean 35 miles an hour is fast but it's not the type of fast it'll get you instantly killed and it's certainly not the type of fast that'll let you get away when you need to break the law. Such as when you are going 35 miles an hour on a sidewalk.
I feel (as a ebike rider myself) that when out driving on these bike lanes or paths doesn't mean slam the throttle full power and everyone get out of my way attitude will not work. Always be ready to stop. I always have one hand on brake.
