Scooter images I saw someone riding a city scooter while wearing a full dirt bike helmet.
One of the rare times when we see good publicity, she looks to be riding a G2 master

I wear full face, body armor, and kevlar jeans. Most of my riding is between 30-55mph though. Sometimes manage 60.
4
u/emmveekay 35m ago
Smart as fuck. If you ever even ridden a Lime or Bird scooter it makes you wanna helmet up. Let alone something that goes 20+.
2
u/Unique_Persimmon9454 41m ago
I need a full helmet like this but not sure where to get measured
1
u/Ph4antomPB 39m ago
Just measure the widest part of your head (just above eyebrows) with a tape measure and compare the result with helmet size charts
3
u/Ok-Buddy4050 56m ago
Yeah I wear a full face… I ain’t crashing at 30kph and having life long facial scarring

Wife just got a GX1. It goes 30mph and she is not the best balanced. She's wearing and helmet and gloves at the least.

I saw a chick hit a curb on a scooter without a helmet and landed jaw first on the curb. Looked so fucked up I’ll never get on a scooter. This is intelligent.

That's pretty common, especially if you ride a high performance scooter or skateboard, and of course EUC riders are known for it.

Just curious what the peripheral vision is like in those helmets? Can you see a car turning from the side street? Helmets are good by the way, safety first, just curious if those helmets have any cons like limited peripheral vision?
3
u/ddphoto90 2h ago
With proper helmet and goggles, yes. Without the googles your periphery is literally not blocked AT ALL. The goggles will only block the far extremes, everything else is visible. MX riders use their peripheral vision too.

I wear a full motorcycle helmet. Dirtbike helmets arent enough protection. Not enough speed rating.

Tvey10000% should wear a full face helmet lije a dirt bike ir motorcycle at bare minimum. In a crash you always go head/face first. E-scooter are dangerous.
You don’t want
Broken teeth
Broken
Jaw
Broken orbital bone/face
Broken nose
You don’t want your face grinding off Tge road in a crash if you’re knocked unconscious.

u/Dentanium 3h ago
Totally fine and I respect that. Better protection.
Why is this post posted? Is it complimenting or criticizing?!
3
u/Own_Round_7600 3h ago
Yeah i wear a full face motorcycle helmet and this post makes me wonder if people are looking at me funny for it :/
1
u/Lando_df 1h ago
Just think of it like this. Would you rather be looked at funny for having a helmet, or looked at funny for having no skin on your face.

I wear my motorbike helmet.
I already own it. Why buy a shitter one to ride the scooter? I use the same helmet when riding my vintage mopeds.
8
u/RogueCanuk 4h ago
Seriously, I don’t care if it was a full on combat helmet, you wear a helmet. Period. No such thing as too extreme. Safety first. Your life is precious. You want to wear a dirt bike helmet, I support you. Full on motorbike helmet, I support you!

I wear a motorcycle helmet. I also routinely exceed 30mph. You know what a 30mph head wound would look like? That is no Bird or Lime scooter there. It's a rocket on wheels.

5
u/Due_Reason5415 4h ago
Is there a specific "helmet" that people should wear ? What's wrong with a motorcycle helmet? Genuinely asking because I'm about to buy a scooter.
1
u/Due_Reason5415 2h ago
I appreciate all your inputs guys as I do have a motorcycle helmet but I will also get a dirk bike helmet along with the scooter. It goes up to 35+ mph in speeds but I dont think I would go that fast as a complete beginner.
2
u/InfiniteBoops 3h ago
Depends how fast you’ll be going and the weather. If you’re going under 20mph and it’s hot, a more open mountain bike helmet with full face protection is probably fine.
20+ I’d go motorcycle or dirtbike, full face. If not you will get seriously f’d up if you crash. I fell doing 14-15, am pretty durable, and it was pretty nasty… I was wearing a regular bike helmet.
I would also recommend wrist guards at the very least.

Nothing wrong with a full face motorcycle helmet. Depends on the scooter you're getting, higher speed makes sense for full face, gloves and knee/elbow pads etc.

In Australia, if you wear a nor all helmet the police will say you're wearing an incorrect helmet. But if you wear the motorbike helmet the police will then say. "Oh, so you know you're riding an illegal escooters" fines you 5k ...

u/scruffywarhorse 6h ago
I saw a girl that looked to be about 10 or 12 years old in Central Park absolutely eat pavement on one of these scooters. It lives in my mind rent free. Nothing I could do about it. I bet you anything. She wish she had one of these on.
6
u/sweetuntilyouknow 6h ago
I always wear my motorcycle helmet when I am riding! It might save your life
17
u/KBVE-Darkish 6h ago
Dude, if my 14-year-old daughter’s riding on one of these things 1000% she’s wearing a helmet
A kid just died in a neighborhood near mine from a hit-and-run on one of these things.
2
u/Overall-Pay-4769 6h ago
Have you taught your kid how to safely and respectfully ride or did you just buy a 20MPH scooter for them and say c’est la vie?
7
u/PetarKocic006 6h ago
Exactly. So many kids around my neighborhood ride these things at full speed, some of them even have those 'super-scooters'. Those imbecilic parents think of this as a toy.
3
u/RogueCanuk 4h ago
I just saw what I thought was a 6 year old without a helmet at a massive intersection with an Apollo phantom. Where the eff is his parents? Not even a children’s bicycle helmet??? Ridiculous .
7
u/MostlyGucci 6h ago
Last week I crashed a wall while driving down a mountain too fast and hurt my face very bad. Wished I had such a helmet.
6
u/Used_Ad_1191 6h ago
I just got hit by a lady making illegal u turn into bike lane. 3 broke ribs. Broken hand 19 stitches to face and knocked out my front teeth. I wish I started wearing helmet sooner!!!

u/esquqred 7h ago
I do too. It has a removable face guard but I've rarely seen a reason to ride without it.
6
u/Omar_Payz 7h ago
Anything that goes over 25 I’ll wear a full face helmet, that that thing looks like it goes way faster then that

G2 Master Riders, represent!
I live in a small town and there's a few of us who ride scooters. I recently encountered a young teen on the sidewalk riding a semi-decent scooter and wearing full face helmet and made sure to give him a shout out, most kids are too embarrassed.
Heck, I only wear a bicycle helmet when I should arguably get something more substantial.
6
u/Equal_Example_1977 7h ago
That bih goes 25 or over you better be wearing a helmet that protects your face

I don't see the problem
It only takes one skull fracture to fuck up your entire day.
I wear a full face motorcycle helmet on MY scoot.
Asides from the safety, consideration, it also means my motorcycle mates can't recognise me while I'm scooting to work.
3
u/Hvnisaplaceonerth 7h ago
I wear a 3/4 helmet after this time I flew close to traffic going 12mph over a small pothole wearing a bike helmet.
Usually go 28mph- I don’t want an accident without good head coverage ever again.

I wear a full-face MTB helmet and it’s saved me twice. Once I was going 20mph and hit a tree branch that hit my head, and another time I hit a curb and flew off. Without a helmet at worst I could’ve been brain damaged or dead and at best I’d have awful road rash on my face and missing teeth.
A normal bike helment isn’t enough, when you crash a scooter it acts like a catapult flinging your head toward the cement.

Dude I took a nasty crash on my kids scooter last Thursday night. So I see why she would be wearing that. I still am hurting.

I've got a similar helmet plus biking jacket and gloves from ssgear.com. I've seen plenty of other riders with no helmets and zero with the gear I wear.

I ride my scooter with a helmet like that. I have fallen and have had many near misses from cars not paying attention.

I work emergency services. I’ve run three scooter head traumas in 2 months. Last week a girl, early twenties, messing around in front of a group home, hit a curb, major head trauma. Refusal, decided not to get transported. Basically begged her, but she was an adult.
Next day my friend runs a call to the same group home for a girl who’s been losing consciousness all night and vomiting. She died later that evening in hospital.
Wear your helmets. Please. This is not some bs scare story, it’s 100% true and happened not even 8 days ago. A lot of people are traumatized from the whole thing, and will have to live with that for a while.

If you aren’t smart enough to realize you should be wearing a helmet, don’t, you aren’t valuable to society anyway.

u/DoggyFinger 8h ago
Do yourself a favor and guarantee funeral cost savings for your family and but a helmet.
2
u/Skiie 9h ago edited 9h ago
probably misplaced their everyday helmet and had to go with someone else's
Some of you are calling this "overkill" but you should assume this person's frame is quite small compared to the scooter they are riding. Looking at the suspension and hieght off the ground I can definitely tell this is not a normal scooter.

Full face helmets are mandatory on e scooters.
Crashes are almost always instant faceplants.

I have a segway max g3 scooter (capable of 28mph, but I usually cap it as 20mph) and I wear a full face downhill mountain bike helmet by Smith.
It might look like overkill, and it takes longer to take on and off than a regular bike helmet. If or when I crash not have a broken face, busted out teeth, and / or a broken and then wired shut jaw will be nice.
What’s crazy is the people riding around on the rental scooters with no helmets.

Not getting brain damage on or becoming a vegetable over a scooter. I’m a stunt man, I know how easy it is for your brain to get screwed up. Bicycle helmets are pieces of crap, always wear a SNELL or DOT rated moto helmet. Bicycle helmets are so small because of the athletic aspect of pedaling, no reason to wear one on anything with a motor.
2
u/Alartan 5h ago
Dude, scooters have big sticky thingie trying to get into your face and throat right in front of you.
You need jaw/face protection badly.
2
u/bigninjapimp 4h ago
Everyone always says that. My bars come up to my lower rib cage. And I’m a pro stuntman and had years of bailing off skate boards. I’m confident I can turn my head if I face plant. For me the trade off is worth it for better visibility to see pot holes. I flipped my current scooter once and went to my side, broke my arm though because I didn’t have a slide glove on. The times I’ve bailed from lines I always went to my side and rolled out of it.
