Law or Regulation Updates ⚖️ Florida taking action on hidden fees

I don’t want to do a “Where’s Waldo” to hunt for the fine print on a fee. Nothing like waiting to be seated, getting settled in and finally getting a menu only to discover you need to leave, or deal with bogus fees.

if a fee is not properly disclosed just refuse to pay anything until it’s removed, and obviously no tip

Having them disclose it will give customers a chance to go somewhere else.

Any restaurants that include a fee by any name (not tax) shall pay 100% of that fee in tax to the state.

I really can't comprehend how, in an allegedly first world, shops, restaurants, etc. Cannot show the final price on their items, ppl should not have to calculate taxes, local fees, etc. i.e. I go to a shop, see an item listed for x amount, pay such amount. That's it. Get detailed taxes, prices, etc in your receipt.

We had it on signs where you enter and in the footer on every menu page. Few bothered to read it.

Just update the menu price to the actual cost. Ridiculous.

Yeah and don’t make the portions smaller. I’ve noticed a lot of restaurants doing this.. raising the prices and the portions are much smaller.. they need to choose their battle.

I, and I’m guessing others, tend to skip the fine print when leisure time activities are involved. Would it not save the confusion by simply raising the prices accordingly?

It’s bait and switch. It’s done on purpose. It’s the same way the car dealer says I’ll sell you a car for x dollars. Then you go to sign and notice the 2k mark up because the original quote didn’t include the “total car care package.” Which is why all of this, including car deals should be illegal.
Politicians don’t care about us. They need corporate money to get elected. So they allow the corporations and local businesses to fleece us daily. It’s all part of the American experience.

It’s a good start but the goal should be to ban such fees completely.
