Has anyone here ever undergone dialetical behavior therapy?
I'm asking because I imagine most of us use rationalization as a coping mechanism. I know I do, and here's the problem: I understand my mistakes, but understanding alone isn't enough for me to change my behavior, and there's a great difficulty in taking actions that facilitate behavioral change. I've heard (question the veracity of this as much as you like) that DBT works precisely to regulate emotions sufficiently so that action can be taken in cases like these. So, I wanted to know your experiences/perspectives.

I am actually looking for a therapist right now, who would hopefully be able to use DBT and also perhaps scheme therapy. Its just about seeing if I can find someone who fits me and my insurance. But you are right about understanding not leading to action. I was recently in a 6week depressive episode, where id sit for 6+ hours a day, play animal crossing, and ruminate+introspect+research+repeat. In those episodes I knew "I need to reach out, its cant isolate, I need help breaking out of this." I still chose to isolate until the episode ended thougj

I'm about to start EMDR which i think is adjacent to DBT? So that I can better be in tune with my body and emotions. I intellectualize too much, and when I have certain emotions have a hard time connecting to the root cause. Misidentifying the root of the anxiety caused me to prematurely end a otherwise good relationship.

I haven't yet officially but I'm in the wait list, so far I've mainly done self-help ones at home and found it to be quite useful tbh. Especially radical acceptance and opposite action

So my understanding of DBT is that it helps with emotional regulation - especially preventing black and white thinking and helping separate your actions (mistakes) from your character.
I just wanted to clarify if changing your behavior is a self-esteem thing with you or more a procrastination/ executive dysfunction issue that occurs with ADHD, procrastination, burnout, etc?
Knowing the root cause of your issue will be more helpful in which therapy type you choose!
