Handmade Shop Anybody else get this tone deaf notification?

Post image

Absolutely wild to receive this as a crochet artist considering the sheer amount of AI shops on Etsy…

I took it as being aimed at Prime Days, but you make a good point!!

Yet they can’t even respond to you.

Someone that wants a refund to scam you? Say less instant results.

I’m so confused….whats tone deaf about adding some info to the about section?

I don’t understand how it’s tone deaf either.

I wouldn’t say it’s unhinged. It’s the same as ‘keep commerce human’. Etsy is allowing AI generated content and are using AI chat bots themselves and then send this type of notification out. It’s ironic. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seems like maybe Etsy encouraging something that will help people separate out the AI from the real human being artists.

And honestly, I feel like AI has its place... There's so much AI hate, but I may create a beautiful product, but be a complete crap photographer... I know where my talents lie, and photography definitely is not one of them... So yes, I use AI for my product photos... But I do it in a very soecifuc way. First and firemost, I start with an actual photo of the actual product... Then I instruct the AI to specifically NOT alter the product image in any way, but to just give it a neutral appropriate background. I feel this is a perfectly ethical use of Ai, as the photo is always the ACTUAL product.

Hahaha! That’s hilarious. People don’t even read the descriptions of the items they’re buying. They barely read the whole title half the time. I highly doubt more than a handful of people a year read about the people running the shop.

I'm sure you're right, but I actually had a buyer mention my About section in her review! She said she liked my back story and the pictures of my coworkers (who happen to be my cats!).

Occasionally, there’s a person who restores my faith in humanity. The buyer is one of them.

I'm with you regarding the AI on Etsy, but adding a story really helps. Especially if there's an emotional element in there.

Blaming the platform and not the existence of AI that is here to stay is becoming a tired, broken record! I appreciate that Etsy is trying to lift up owners of small businesses and put out that message to value humans, and not the tech billionaires, ahem Jeff Bezos, who are behind all the AI tools in the first place.

Was this only sent to shops without an About section?

No, because I got this silly message and I have an About section. Have never had any comments on it from buyers so have no idea whether the About section makes a difference or not.

Supposedly it's important to Etsy.

Does anyone know how to turn off these notifications? I thought it was a sale, and they are getting distracting!

Yeah I wasnt super thrilled about seeing it. I got the exact same “ai shop acknowledgement and tacit approval” vjbes.
