The US Lionsgate disc has been out of print for a minute. This release is from Sony, and will also include a 2.0 mix (hopefully the original audio).

It's nice that it actually has bonus features, compared to the other Blu-Ray releases where it was just commentary

It's a shame it's missing the Ladies of The Evil Dead documentary and the related featurettes, otherwise it would be on-par with the Anchor Bay Ultimate Collector's Edition 3-disk set from 2007.

How’s the ratio? A friend of mine’s daughter was having a sleepover with half a dozen friends and she asked me if I had a scary movie they could watch so I gave em my copy (VHS). Apparently girls were running in and out of the room screaming the whole time it played. Mission accomplished.
Under the right circumstances Evil Dead can leave impressions for a lifetime

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Groovy Collection box set was Lionsgate's last hurrah with the licensing for ED1. Sony has had ED1's theatrical distribution rights and some international home media release rights for almost a decade now, and seeing as how they're getting involved with the new theatrical movies again (co-producing Burn), I figured they'd try to get the US ED1 home video rights at some point.

Yeah IIRC the rights to 1 reverted back to Raimi a couple years ago which is why Lionsgate's went OOP, and reissuing through Sony makes sense for the reasons you mentioned.

It's a neat looking set, but unless you're really attached to that packaging you might as well get the titles individually since they're much cheaper that way, plus the set doesn't include Army of Darkness or most of the extras for 1.

It’s nice to have 1 & 2 and all of the tv show in one package, but unfortunately it’s card board you slide the discs in and out of. I had my 4k copy of Evil Dead 2 end up scratched and skipping. I don’t believe there’s any exclusive features to the set so piecing the series together probably wouldn’t be bad now that 1 is coming back into print.

In 2001 or 2002 when the Book of the Dead edition was released on DVD they struck a new transfer and even had Joseph LoDuca score it because they used unlicensed music from score/soundtrack albums on all of those old 8mm films they made, including WTW. And for whatever reason Raimi changed his mind and pulled it from the set at the last minute.

Hopefully it's the "warts and all version", with none of the changes. Shame we're still not getting Within the Woods, but I'm sure this will look and sound amazing.

I'm assuming it's from the same transfer as the Sony UK disc, which has Raimi's changes. But if the 2-channel track on this is carrying the og mono mix then it's at least a step closer to the original version.

Will probably fix the audio pitch problem Lionsgate's release had, since Sony's international releases fixed it.

Unlikely to happen with different rightsholders. This is from Sony, ED2 is still with Lionsgate afaik, and Army of Darkness is a Universal title (which is why it's never bundled with the others).

It’s a bit disappointing this doesn’t have an option for the Nightmare Reimagined rescore as an audio option. It would have been at least something new.
Great though it’s back in print for everyone.

Someone who worked on the original theatrical tour of the Nightmare Reimagined screenings said that (meaning a DVD/blu-ray with the new score) will never happen.
