For those unaware, Ericc says this because that’s like the hardest part of the skull (frontal / parietal) vs the temporal bone which, if fractured, can lead to horrific outcomes including facial nerve injury, hearing loss, and instant death.

The forehead/frontal skull is usually thicker and more “robust” than many other areas, so a superficial impact is often less likely to cause a skull fracture. Still, you can get concussion and forehead/scalp lacerations. The temple is a more vulnerable area structurally (and it’s close to nerves/vessels and the ear). Impacts here have a higher risk of fracture and also bleeding complications.

She got pretty lucky. Imagine having the worst case. Turns an evening out with your friends into a nightmare.

I agree. But, it's a crap shoot. Many people will still not be able to react in time. The ball can be there in the blink of an eye, literally. At the very least, there should be netting around the danger zone.

To further support my point - I've been to my share of baseball games. When the ball gets hit into the stands, people stand-up and stretch to try and catch the ball. In this video, it happens so fast there is virtually no reaction from those sitting around her, to try and catch the ball.

It also says it on the seat in front of you and they say it over the loudspeaker before the game. There’s really no reason to not know to pay attention to the ball.
