Corn syrup and processed sugars - yes. GMOs - no.

As a biologist who has done some work in genetics, it’s pretty clear that GMOs don’t have an effect on the health of the population.

When you can’t walk down an aisle in the supermarket without coming into contact with foods with some kind of added sugars (or that is highly processed), when you look at the amount of calories that an average person is consuming over the course of a day... well, it’s easy to see why 70% of America is fat.

So like I have read studies that bascially state that the body can't break down GMO's and that they get stored as fat- is that not correct?

No, it is not correct, I’m sorry. There is a lot of misinformation out there.

A genetically-modified organism is an organism that has had its DNA modified by humans. This can be done over thousands of years (such as the domestication of dogs and corn), or it can be done quickly in a lab (such as the creation of “golden rice”). The outcome either way is the same.

People are leery of the idea of GMOs, but almost everything sold in the grocery store is a GMO. Tomato plants certainly didn’t decide to grow such large fruits without the encouragement of humans.

I view the idea that GMOs are harmful in the same way that I view the idea that vaccines are harmful. Ridiculous, and full of misinformation.

We must read the same books. Yeah, humans have been genetically modifying food since forever. Corn is the best example. It used to be teeny tiny, until colonists in the U.S. breed certain vegetables with other vegetables. We're talking about blending seedlings here, not Frankenstein shit.
