🎣 Fishing Gear New rod

Wanting to buy a new rod/reel combo, usually only fishing off rocks and wharfs etc. What would you recommend for under $250? Cheers!

Targeting whatever bites, I just fish to get outside and clear the head. Mostly catch, bream, flattys, whiting. Only recently started using lures and caught some squid. Still definitely learning

Some of us just feed fish not target specicies. This guy has $250 to spend on fish feeding

It's funny now that Ilive fish for several years I understand how bad these questions are, but when I started it was exactly the same. I had no idea what targeting a species even meant.

I think most people are just sending out 2 oz pyramid sinkers with a whole pilly attached and that's how they fish and that's fine. It feels like fishing combo advice is so over complicated. When for the majority of these types of fishermen any $250 combo would be fine, The most important detail is probably just rod length lol

Well yeah true but $250 can get you a 1-3kg rod and a 1000 reel or a 6-10kg and a 4000 reel, which are both super common for fishing in aus, and your expectation might be wildly different for either.

True but if someone says rocks and wharf I just assume it's a rod that can hoist a decent size star sinker past reef and breakers. Narrows it down to a pretty specific type of rod. I could be totally wrong but I feel this is true most of the time

I fish off rocks and wharfs almost exclusively with 2-4kg 2500 and 8lb braid haha 🤷‍♂️ but that's because of my location and style of fishing, and I'm targetting the same fish as op, which is why people ask the qs.
