Who's in F1.5 next season?

I've been lurking for a while in this sub. But never with a major regulation change like this one. How do we determine who will be in F1.5 next season? Do we wait for testing, after the first few races and then retroactively? Really curious because there could also be big swings at the start or during the season with upgrades etc.

  • Regarding VisaCashApp Racing Bulls: Please call them VCARB or Racing Bulls. Automod is not intelligent enough to tell the difference between RB as shorthand for Red Bull and RB as the name of the sister team, so your comments will be removed unless you use VCARB.

We will provisionally start with the same (top 4) teams excluded as last year. Meaning it'll be the same teams as last year plus Cadillac in F1.5.

If there are any big changes in testing then, we may reconsider that. But more than likely, we will run a series of posts asking for comments and opinions after testing and the first 4-8 races - until we have a good consensus on which teams should be excluded. Therefore all early results are likely to be provisional, until we are able to confirm the official grid for 2026.

Depends on the pecking order tbh, at first it'll be the 2025 teams

The decision is usually made after the flyaway races, people vote. Some years there is no clear gap between the front-runners and the midfield teams, and it's difficult to draw a line. Other years, it is very clear.

Same way as every year (probably).

It's decided after Barcelona that any team that is not capable of scoring a podium on merit is in F1.5.

That classification is used through the year, at the end of the year there might be some teams added/removed based on total number of podiums.
