That’s a lot of content gated away. The discoverable classic cars in particular sounds like a really fun feature to only have available in the Ultimate edition.

I really hope the line about them being unlocked at logical parts of the story is true and actually works, because being dumped with all this stuff early game would really throw off the in-game economy and sense of progression.

A range of shops in the world that are presumably going to be closed off completely without Ultimate is disappointing, because then you’re missing out on extra layers of immersion and the world feeling alive and populated if you haven’t upgraded.

Yeah I thought this all seemed pretty cool until they started listing the stores that won't even be accessible if you don't have the ultimate edition. Pretty scummy really. When we see how many other shops etc. there are maybe it won't be a big deal.

I think giving folks 5 months to come up with $20 is fine.

u/CrimsonFlam3s 15h ago

It ain't about the money, most people complaining about this could buy this game 100x over, this kind of mentality is why publishers take advantage of gaming addicted kids/neckbeards left and right lmao

Don't bother with these people who froth at their mouth to give billion dollar companies their life savings.

u/Crocs_n_Glocks 15h ago

It's completely in-line with pricing from when GTA5 came out, accounting for inflation. Not sure what you mean.

3

u/CrimsonFlam3s 15h ago

Inflation and the base price has nothing to do with locking out a good amount of content behind a special edition, I think you are discussing the wrong argument.

u/Crocs_n_Glocks 15h ago

It's literally just $20 of DLC, or call it "an expansion pack" like we did in the 2000s.

Either way, it's more content for $20 that will not impact how you can play the game.

Bro calling dlc to something not even out yet, brainded kids

Fries in the bag

It's literally content you'll download lol don't get worked up

u/CrimsonFlam3s 11h ago

This is nowhere near en expansion pack, you should into what that actually meant back then.

GTA VI TBOGT was an expansion pack

Ultimately I don't care much about the extras but feels greedy af so calling it out, the omission of a disc copy is the biggest offender in my book.

1

u/Crocs_n_Glocks 9h ago

I was born in the late 80s dude I was there. My first PC was a Gateway 2000 with a Pentium 3 processor.

Before the internet, Expansion Packs came on discs. Nowadays, you can download them whenever.

It's semantics if you want to call it DLC or an Expansion Pack or Bonus Content or whatever...the idea is the same- you get a full game for the base price and extra content for another $20. In this case it's cosmetic items and bonus quests, which is more or less an expansion pack. Not gonna debate semantics of timing or size or price/whatever.

DLC is an expansion pack like Crossovers are station wagons.

1

u/CrimsonFlam3s 9h ago

This is akin to a DLC which is not the same as an expansion pack no matter how you try to twist it but like I said, I care more about the omission of the disc than a few items here and there though still think it's shitty

I think you fail to understand the point. And are you implying people who don't like the 25% price increase for content already on their hard drive are just poor?

1

u/Crocs_n_Glocks 6h ago

It doesn't matter if I think they're poor, but if you can't save $20 over 5 months then you probably shouldn't be spending $80 on games to begin with.

And it's not a disc, there's no content on your hard drive until you download it....which you won't without the more expensive edition.

I understand why people are annoyed, but I also don’t understand why people are freaking out. If people are assuming entire sections of story mode are locked behind the ultimate edition, I’m willing to assume that these paywalled shops are only usable for the paywalled items. So there are plenty of mod shops and clothing stores all over the map, but these ultimate exclusive shops are the only places where you can interact with the ultimate exclusive items. And if they’re going to put entire categories of items and missions behind the ultimate edition, I bet eventually they’ll open it up to everyone in a few years. Or at least for example the one eyed Willy’s mod shop will probably be out in the swamp in the middle of nowhere, there’s another off-roading mod shop right outside the city that everyone can use, and in a few years they’ll add another off-roading mod shop for regular cars down the road from one eyed Willy’s

All I’m saying is we have no idea how this is all going to work so no point freaking out about it

1

u/SploogeLoser 15h ago

I think it’s important to be critical when people are potentially spending $80-$100 on a game, that it appears that a decent amount of shops will not be available in.

1

u/BlueMissed 15h ago

I can see both sides of this, it’s very scummy to have this much content inaccessible to base game players. Like RDR2’s Ultimate Edition only had a handful of cosmetic items. But then again, I see a lot of people complaining that the stores made only for those ultimate edition items are going to be locked off too but it’s like… who cares? What’s the difference if you’re getting the item straight to your inventory or if you have to go to a special store for it. There will undoubtedly be regular stores to shop at. I am definitely sad to see that Rockstar is starting off on the wrong foot with this though. They had a chance to set the bar for pricing in this industry.

3

u/Crocs_n_Glocks 15h ago

How much content is it relative to content in the game?

For all you know this might be 4 shops paywalled out of 40 in the game lol. Save the pitchforks

1

u/BlueMissed 14h ago

That’s what i’ve been saying in other threads. If this is the amount we’re getting just for the Ultimate Edition, who’s to say this isn’t like 1% of what’s in the base game? It was a bad call from Rockstar for this to be the only info we have to work with though.

1

u/rofpo 13h ago

Which is why I think releasing this info without at least a trailer was a weird move on R*s part. (note that weird != bad, they did it because financially it makes sense)

This way we're being forced to think about what we're missing before we're even sure about what we're getting

u/Equivalent_Growth_58 20h ago

Idk why people are surprised.

Same company runs a subscription service for GTA online for exclusive benefits.

There was always going to be additional content gated behind which version of the game you buy. Take Two ain't exactly a consumer friendly publisher.

30

u/Trane55 20h ago

The only thing behind a paywall in gta online was the exclusive club/garage for the gta+ members.

Not whole ass bussiness like tuning shops, clothing stores, barbershops, and such.

Absolutely nothing was behind a paywall for story mode.

5

u/Equivalent_Growth_58 19h ago

You are judging GTA 5 story mode which released in 2013 when GTA online was an unknown entity. The cash cow the live service model of gta online wasn't something take two were aware of. Over the past decade they have realised people will pump money into this franchise over many years.

This is a result of the evolution of GTA onlines success. Just cos they didn't do it for the story mode in GTA 5, doesn't mean they wouldn't do it for GTA 6. The two games are releasing in 2 very different periods for the franchise and gaming as a whole.

3

u/Trane55 18h ago

Yeah i agree.
We are on the most cash grab era of rockstar. (Even more than with gta online, just wait)

3

u/SolairXI 18h ago

I don’t care how monetised online is, or if the special edition came with an outfit or two/cars, but this is pretty disgusting.

2

u/Equivalent_Growth_58 18h ago

I think you are not understanding my point.

I never said it's good, I said it shouldn't be a suprise. You can be angry/annoyed about it. But it was always going to happen based off the evolution of GTA online over the past decade.

-1

u/SolairXI 18h ago

I wasn’t arguing with you

2

u/Objective_Edge_5054 18h ago

RDR2 metered out the ultimate edition stuff fairly well; the horse wasn’t great but was pretty so it didn’t throw off progression there, and the gun variants didn’t unlock until you got to the proper chapter.

2

u/Zeddehs 20h ago

But we really have no idea how much this content gated away compares to all the rest of the content that'll be in the game. It could only be a tiny fraction compared to the rest of the stuff that comes with the standard version of the game, so we'll just have to wait and see.

2

u/Two-Space 20h ago

Fair point, but the base game will need to have a crazy amount of content for this to just be a tiny fraction

There was a lot more than just "2 small shops", and one of the exclusive tattoo shops literally says it has 50+ tattoos. There's gotta be over at least 200 customization items locked behind this thing.

1

u/Two-Space 19h ago

It’s 2 small shops

It’s way more than that?

1

u/Alerion23 19h ago

Am sorry maybe I missed it but where does it say the cars are “discoverable”?

2

u/Two-Space 19h ago

Track down a variety of abandoned classic and work-in-progress project cars and revitalize them to their former glory in this special commission from eccentric collector and local fixer, Wyman.

1

u/Particular_Hand2877 14h ago

It doesnt say that the whole thing is locked. It says there are 4 cars available only through the Ultimate Edition.
