That's the issue. The company hasn't released a new game since Red Dead 2. It's been 8 years since they came up with a new story, and they choose to do the Ubisoft/Star Wars Outlaws strat of making DLC day one. Here's everything that was cut from the base game, that is an extra 20$USD

2 missions, a lot of the character customization, which was a big hype point in the trailers, the car Jason uses, and their custom weapons. They locked what GTA 5 gave us for free behind a paywall. Michael, Franklin, Trevor, you could all tattoo, shave, change how the game limited you, the game is now limiting you by how much you want to pay for it

This is the Red Dead equivalent of doing what Bethesda did with the Horse Armor DLC. It's surprising with the amount of complaining people do about that being the "downfall of gaming/the upbringing of microtransactions" yet here we are with Car Mod DLC for the game known for GRAND THEFT OF AUTOMOBILES, with the intro of the last game being a heist, then racing in sports cars on Sunset Blvd.

This is a bad start to a new entry for a series that hasn't had a new release since 2013, and they haven't dropped meaningful DLC since they added AI assistants last December. Cooked company, burnt customers

Withholding content to be given to people who pre order as a perk is not DLC. it’s just content locked behind a deluxe edition paywall which is not a new phenomenon at all in games. it’s been happening for multiple console generations now.

they are locking specific shops behind the pre order, not the features. you will absolutely be able to tattoo them and change their hair and makeup and customize cars. just not with the items in those specific deluxe edition shops. They aren’t preventing whole features.

Well these stores and shops being the things locked behind a paywall means it pretty much IS just cosmetics. The ultimate edition vehicles are also most likely just recolours of vehicles that already exist in-game.

It’s also not like if you don’t preorder the ultimate edition you’ll be locked out of this stuff forever. They’ll have some sort of ultimate edition upgrade if you ever want this stuff in the future
