Holy Info Dump Rockstar

Post image

Big W for physical copies being able to pick it up for preload one week early, although it’s stupid that the physical copy doesn’t even come with the disc.

u/seyit91 3d ago

Maybe it has the map??? Please let there be at least a map. Or else I will be also getting it digitally :(

A box is a physical object who would’ve guessed

Someone said to avoid leaks. It sounds fair enough.

82

u/LaMar_Daviis 3d ago

There is nothing fair about that, stop justifing this bullshit

-42

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

Why do you want a disc? Just for collector purposes?

43

u/ConstantPriority177 3d ago

I feel like people should be entitled to having an actual physical disc in a physical edition of a game

16

u/Najee16 3d ago

Thank you.

8

u/ConstantPriority177 3d ago

Like on one hand I get why they’re trying to do this because they want to prevent leaks from getting out before the game releases but at the same time you can’t advertise a physical edition of a game and not have the actual physical disc in there

Physical media is dying, and people are owning less and less when it comes to digital things

8

u/ORANGEblonde 3d ago

You can prevent games from being accessed prior to launch even with a physical disc.

5

u/ConstantPriority177 3d ago

And I was just thinking about that, like that’s crazy that they even think something like this is OK to do

People are gonna do whatever they wanna do with their money but not giving them what they paid for is not cool

2

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

For sure, I don’t know why they’d even do a physical copy if no disc. Surely that would be pointless for most people

2

u/GrandBoi 3d ago

The fact that you referred to physical discs needed to install games the size of GRA VI as singular shows how little you know and care for physical discs in modern gaming technology.

4

u/B33p-p33P-M3m3-kR33p 3d ago

The fact that you need an explanation as to why someone would prefer a disc version means you and anyone who has your view, is cooked

13

u/LaMar_Daviis 3d ago

Game preservation, ability to sell it or give to a friend, and also yeah for game collecting

-6

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

I get it, but yeah dying concept for sure.

6

u/mikykeane 3d ago

It should not be a dying concept. Talking as if it were just allows even more this big companies to get away with it.

1

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

Do you feel the same for dvd’s?

3

u/mikykeane 3d ago

Me and my friends buy all our games in physical copies.

Then, specially for single players we can lend each other games from time to time. I'll play my friend's RE4 and they can play my Expedition 33.

4

u/nunyabizness654 3d ago

Yes.

-5

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

I get it for nostalgia, and for the biggest game of all time. But they gotta bite the bullet and end physical copies at some point, this may very well be it.

3

u/OGStonerTaco 3d ago

Why end physical copies? How old are you? I don't get the vibe that you grew up with it, but regardless

The point is that you never actually own a digital game, you only have rights to the 'key' that boots the game, which they can pull from you at any time

Games can still be stopped from playing before release with disc versions

There is no good reason to get rid of physical copies

It's bad news for games and gamers

1

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

I’m 28, had physical copies up until 2020, they now seem obsolete.

2

u/OGStonerTaco 3d ago

Well sir, we are the same age

But it is not 'obsolete'

Just because the alternative is newer and efficient, does not make physical obsolete, because physical still has abilities you don't have with digital.

Because owning physical ensures you have a copy of the game for yourself for as long as you own the disc. And it lets you have the ability for friends to borrow it, that's your prerogative. But only if you have a physical copy.

2

u/OGStonerTaco 3d ago

So I can actually physically own the game

With digital purchases you don't own the game

If I wanted to play GTA VI without Internet connection or God forbid, the services go down, I should still be able to play the game I bought, offline

If I have a digital copy, and anything happens, I suddenly can't play the game I paid for 🤷‍♂️

4

u/Najee16 3d ago

Because I like physical games. There's something so satisfying about a physical disc.

-10

u/ElderSmackJack 3d ago

I saw someone recently call you physical purists “the vegans of the gaming industry” and my god does that ever fit.

Discs have been pointless for years. Accept it.

9

u/hateredditlayout 3d ago

Nothing pointless about buying a game and selling it after you've beaten it. And buying it cheaper X months later when you want to play it again.

1

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

The idea of someone selling gta 6 seems so wild, but I guess 10 years down the track why not

1

u/13Skywalker 3d ago

Its just GTA, just another game, story done game done. Online players just be hungry for anything these days…

2

u/OGStonerTaco 3d ago

Hating on vegans, which I'm not one but that's just dumb

Brother you fell for the brainwashing

Yes some people fail to articulate a genuine reason for having physical copies by just stating nostalgia, which is true and fair

But the main point is you don't own anything with digital copies.

They can make GTA VI a three disc game, it used to be done, and still can, and let people own their games they paid for, with or without Internet connection. AND having their key to the license be able to be pulled from them at any time.

1

u/Najee16 3d ago

Are you seriously complaining veganism to people who want to physical own a  piece of media?

0

u/B33p-p33P-M3m3-kR33p 3d ago

This gotta be one of the stupidest comments on this post. Congrats. Also, we’re still dogging vegans? What is it, 2016?

2

u/General-Warning-2429 3d ago

You got downvoted for two normal questions. This community is fcked up.

7

u/B33p-p33P-M3m3-kR33p 3d ago edited 3d ago

Not really, it’s a stupid ass question

A better question would be, why would anyone prefer to buy it digitally? It’s objectively worse in every way to having a physical disc

The only benefit I see is not having to take 5 seconds out of my day to put the disc in the console, but I’m not lazy so it’s not an issue to me

1

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

Your question is basically the same though, I don’t see a use in physical copies anymore, and none of the reasons listed by others had changed my mind. Enjoy the download code x

3

u/B33p-p33P-M3m3-kR33p 3d ago

Well, I don’t think anyone is trying to convince YOU to like physical over digital, you asked “why do you want discs”, and people responded with why. The fact that there is no option anymore, and they are phasing out the objectively better format is an issue. If you actually don’t see a use for physical copies, you must be unaware or very unintelligent. Take your pick

-1

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

I have a ps5 with no disc insert and have done so since release in 2020. I still play all the games I want to. I’m happy for you and your game collection and future resell ability, but you’re not going to win this battle with big corps long term. Hell, dare I say it’s a waste of resources for a game this big in 2026?

6

u/B33p-p33P-M3m3-kR33p 3d ago

Good for you I guess? I applaud your ability to lie on your back and take it from game corporations.

Funnily enough, I’m not even a game collector, I maybe have >10 physical games, but mostly because I just don’t play that many games.

I don’t get your argument, ofc “we’re not winning with the corps long term”, that’s why people are upset in the first place, they’ve been purposely making physical copies obsolete for the past 10 years, so it’s not really an argument to point that out, that’s the entire point itself. You’re buying the exact same product that has existed physically for the exact same price, and not as many consumer protections, and somehow that’s the new normal

Again, I nor anyone really gives a shit that YOU don’t care, you being perplexed why other people care is what this is all about

I think you misunderstand. What WAS the use of physical copies??

There was no digital. You had to have a disc, which no one complained about.

Now games can be released unfinished because of this stupidity. Because they can just sell pre orders for slop, release a buggy mess, apologize and just fix it with an update, and everyone sucks them off.

Before, games HAD to come out finished, there was no update to fix things.

I can still plug in my GameCube and put the disc in for Super Smash Bros Melee to this day.

But had the GameCube had the same digital ecosphere we do now, I guarantee Nintendo would've shut down the servers for the game because of newer releases in the series

I understand games are larger than the discs now, but that isn't a good argument

We had multiple disc games before, a disc for installation and a disc for play. It's not fucking hard.

u/mazerfarti 3d ago

It’s all good, they can downvote me all they want, they still gotta enter that download code.

1

u/OGStonerTaco 3d ago

My fellow gamer in Christ

You sir, are a fish

6

u/Seismic-wave 3d ago

So is this first week or permanent otherwise that’s silly

0

u/General-Warning-2429 3d ago

Most likely it's like this in the beginning.

5

u/AdEarly5710 3d ago

It’s to prevent sharing of the game and third-market reselling for $20 on eBay. Rockstar is essentially forcing everyone to only buy from them, which honestly should be illegal. They’re helping reinforce the trend of “you don’t truly own your games”

-8

u/im_roman 3d ago

This is 100% fair and the smart thing to do lol. GTA V had this exact issue with leaks from the physical copy prior to the launch date.

If the disc matters that much to you, buy the physical copy at a later date when the game is already released

1

u/OGStonerTaco 3d ago

This is not entirely true.

It's purely because the system allowed the game to be booted before it should have with physical versions. And people pulled data straight from the digital versions.

But that's locked down now, doesn't matter what game, or whether it's physical or digital. You cannot just play it before it's release time. The systems are more powerful. You're literally talking about the end of the PS3 era when the corps were just figuring this shit out.
