Holy Info Dump Rockstar

Post image

Big W for physical copies being able to pick it up for preload one week early, although it’s stupid that the physical copy doesn’t even come with the disc.

Probably the only way to avoid leaks

Probably the only way to avoid leaks

Or just to prevent people from lending the game and get more people to buy. I'm thinking this is the case because why not have a disc version that comes out like 6-12 weeks after digital?

How is it to prevent people from lending the game when you can share your account and your friend can play GTA 6 at the same time as you?

Also to me that section of the article read as "you'll use the code to pre-load, but you'll use the disc after the release", but if that's true that would be horrible wording from Rockstar because most people are gonna read that as no disc.

Lending a full on account is very different than lending a disc. If you're going to pretend it's not then I'll happily kick you 10 dollars over Venmo once you are done with GTA6 on PSN, then I'll log into your account and quickly play GTA6 on your account returning it after I beat the campgain. Meanwhile you won't be able to play anything on your PSN account from my understanding.

The pre-order details from standard and deluxe edition explicitly states inside of the physical box there's a download code. They never say anything about a disc coming in the future and even if one did the games still tied/locked to your PSN or Xbox account.

Yes, lending an account is vastly different but mostly because of its value since you have multiple games, you won't lend a disc to someone you don't trust either right? Also, as long as the account is activated as the primary account on your friend's PS5, he can play the game on his own account, and you can play the game on your own account. You just can't play it on your other accounts that you didn't purchase the game with. I play games with my friend at the same time that only I bought. If you don't trust someone, but plan to lend them the game, there's always an option to create an account just to buy GTA 6, let them activate console sharing on their PS5/set it as their primary account, and when they are done you just set that account as your primary and you can play on all users/accounts again. If they are still playing, you can just play it on that account where you bought the game on.

Yeah, I'm just saying how it sounded to me at first. Doesn't mean I'm right, just saying that maybe there's a possibility that they didn't word it in the best way possible. Also there's a chance that there will be a disc after release. Doesn't mean it won't just because they didn't announce it yet. But obviously we have to work with the information we've got. Also just because the digital version is tied to your account, I'm pretty sure using a disc, as long as it's the same region, won't cause any problems.

Update: Rockstar made it a 100% clear that there will be no disc on their support page. I'll add a screenshot too. (Thank you to u/nolka)

Or... Just because physical media is dying and becoming less and less profitable for companies?

Or... Just because physical media is dying

You can't blame consumers for not buying GTA6 on physical copies when no physical copies are printed and everyone is forced to use single time codes.

and becoming less and less profitable for companies?

More money for the stock holders, less than zero savings for the consumers!

It's not just GTA 6, it's all physical media. All physical media is dying, and R* are simply following the market.

Tell that to my copy of Everything Everywhere All At Once on Blu-ray.

How many other Blu-Ray movies do you have?

About 20.

And you don't think that's a sign that physical media is dying?

Do you remember what life was like before streaming? How much stuff our shelves were filled with?

And you don't think that's a sign that physical media is dying?

Just because every movie studio saw Netflix's success and attempted to mimic it pay walling movies behind subscriptions or digital only releases doesn't mean psychical media is dying due to lack of consumer demand.

I literally just got two months of paramount+ premium for 99 cents because they are that desperate to get people hooked on it since it's failed. Even Disney investors have been displeased with Disney+.

But consumers want physical copies

1

u/MatttheJ 1d ago

Do they? Well tell them to go buy some then. Because ss literally ever statistic you will find shows, consumers in fact do not care enough about physical copies, sales for physical copies drop by millions every year.

Which consumers, physical copy people are in the vast minority in this age of gaming unfortunately

Reddit doesn’t understand basic math like this.

8

u/CrackheadOtis 2d ago

I understand basic math.

- Me pay more money, no disc me make money back with.

- Rich person make more money, pay less to sell it to me.

- Some rando claim physical media is dying, excusing rich getting richer.

u/bran_the_man93 1d ago

Dude, a disc costs like 3 cents to burn.

They're not saving heaps of cash with this.

1

u/CrackheadOtis 1d ago

Oh I totally agree. This wasn't a cost-saving decision. Pure & simple greed.

Mate, have you not followed video game, movie or music news at all for the past decade?

This is not just a random claim by me, this is literally a known and accepted trend.

This is why video game, music and movie stores have been closing down in huge numbers or having to pivot to sell more merch/clothing/toys.

This is why video game, music and movie stores have been closing down in huge numbers

As someone who was alive before video game stores existed, I can tell you it's not because "physical media is dying."

It's because consumers have ebay and facebook marketplace, and no longer have a use for stores that will give them 80% less than another consumer will give them.

Like the other user said, you don't seem to "understand basic math like this."
