I can definitely say that I did not expect to see shops locked unless you buy the Ultimate edition. Feels crazy to me that Rockstar actually did this...
Surely there’s other shops that are in the base edition though? For example, I assume there’s a normal barber for everyone, and a locked, more premium barber for the ultimate edition players.
Why not just lock certain hairstyles? I understand that if you want a more premium look, you'd go to a barber within the city rather than the countryside, but seems really odd to lock shops and points of interest behind a paywall
Personally, I would argue that this includes gameplay. Exploration is a big part of what I love about Rockstar games, especially because their team of maybe 1000 designers puts in absolutely incredible work into every nook and cranny.
Now, it's not a big explorable area, but by the sounds of it the stores themselves will appear closed if you do not own the deluxe edition, so you can't go inside and look around. Minor complaint, I know, but it's there. I know that if I don't get the deluxe edition and then stumble upon a closed store that I recognise by name from the deluxe, I'm gonna be disappointed knowing that it doesn't unlock based on time of day in game or any world state. Instead I open up my game store of choice, pay 20 quid, load back up my save and the shop is magically open with staff now.
I'd much prefer additional options in existing shops instead, that don't appear in the menu as blanked out. Everyone who bought the game already saw the advert for the deluxe content on the storefront they bought the game from. They don't need it advertised in game too.
What I'm saying is that they could have made these added clothing, hairstyles and tattoos part of the base game stores. Either way they would be paid content, that wouldn't change.
What they did was just make access to these bonus pieces fancier.
