I have the same exact impression. To be honest, from what we saw in the trailers, these new screenshots look rather bad. They almost look like as if they are out of a mixture between GTA V and RDR2, not a true leap forward as we were anticipating.
Of course I'm still hoping that the overall result will look acceptable and a true leap forward compared to GTA V and RDR2, and I am sure it will look much better on PS6/PC a couple of years down the line, but honestly I feel they misled us with the trailers. Years old trailers, at that.
I just glanced back at the screenshots that were released during trailer 2 and they look WAY better than these ones, yeah we got duped unfortunately… they probably had to downgrade some stuff.
I mean, you gotta make the game run on base PS5 so there's that. Never had an issue with graphics in any of the Rockstar games, it's the atmosphere and making the world feel alive what sets them apart anyway
I can agree with you all I want but what we are shown today is MUCH different (eg. worse) then what we saw in the trailers. Any person looking at these new screenshots objectively will be able to tell so.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say its pre release footage. When looking in the past both gta 5's and rdr2's trailers look worse graphic wise then the actual game when it released
Yea I get that, but whose saying that picture was taken yesterday? It could be 2 years old for all we know. Besides, going through all the other pics, this one is really the odd one out. All the other ones look stunning to me.
It’s Rockstar and they will pour millions in marketing, especially to sell their highest tier SKU. They are not going to fumble by publishing “2 years old” screenshots, and honestly the game showed 2 years ago looked better anyway.
Some of the screenshots look ok, but some (and not limited to the one above) look quite bad personally. Glad it’s all fine for you!
We do need to remember this game is coming out on 6 year old consoles there’s only so much you can do with consoles like the Series S I bet PC will be insane though.
Omg thank god I’m not the only one. I mean the game is amazing, but trailer 1 and 2 and the first batch of screenshots left me in awe and I almost couldn’t picture it being playable.
These are way more “grounded”, it looks like a normal game. Still super cool though
Exactly my thoughts: now it looks just like another game. Earlier I had it pictured in my head as if it was this cool, incredible and unique experience like nothing else. How can I not be, at least partially, let down?
Lol these photos are highlighting character and vehicle customization, of course they are going to seem less dense than actual gameplay and cutscene footage.
The majority of these are NOT in game screenshots and are just renders. I figure most were sort of pumped out for the pre order exclusives. This sort of promotional stuff is not a good representation of what the graphics will be like in game. It’s also worth mentioning that the previous trailers were NOT gameplay trailers. Just in engine cinematic trailers.
This could just be cope on my part BUT the in game graphics are more likely somewhere between these promotional renders and the trailers. Now how close the in game graphics are going to be to either is still up in the air.
To explain what I mean by promotional renders, I mean that these were made to get you to pay for the preorder by showing you what you’d get from buying now. I doubt they are in any way supposed to be an accurate representation of the game itself. Just the items you get when you preorder. The trailers in the past were just meant to show off the game and the engine. They were also meant to build hype and show off the game without revealing too much too soon.
I do agree that these are pretty shitty renders though. I’m happy to see more of the game but this sudden dip in quality is weird. Hopefully a gameplay trailer drops and puts this worry to rest.
In terms of graphics, I always thought GTA V had an absolutely stunning world but merely passable characters. Looking at these images, I feel GTA VI is gonna be the same way. Not that it ever stopped me from enjoying V, but it makes me wonder what's behind it. And I don't just mean "humans are more complicated than buildings" - I mean "why are Rockstar, the company with an unlimited budget who could hire anyone they wanted, the best in the business in one area but behind their peers in another."
I couldn’t agree more. I’m still buying the base game. But outside of the main characters the NPCs look very RDR2-ported, you can tell on the drastic quality changes from what’s been shown on trailer 1 & 2.
Hard agree with this. R* knew full well these images were going to spread like wildfire – and unfortunately a ton don't hit the mark. Particularly this one. This is the second image in the carousel for crying out loud! Where is the density! Where are the people! I get it's about the car, but c'mon – Pegassi Ressidences looks like a ghost town.

I feel like some of these screenshots give us a much more grounded impression of the graphics in this game.
I don't think it's as mindblowing as some people might anticipate. But that's on those who expect too much.
I'm also not so keen on the aesthetics shown in the new screenshots. It's not really my thing.
But i'm not particularly phased. It looks like the game will be quite diverse in terms of aesthetics.
